It is also entirely possible to simply replicate a GW1 interrupt skill by simply adapting them to one of the GW2 conditions. For instance, what would be the difference between a rupt and .1second fear? Absolutely nothing, the duration on the fear wouldn't be long enough to even cause your character to change direction, it just simply stops your current action. The same thing with a short duration stun.

The combat is definately not like LoL. LoL is a strategy game (essentially) where you control your hero and only your hero. There are 4 skills per character. GW2 is an MMORPG that plays more like an action game, forcing you to dodge, roll, position yourself, and swing your fists of fury. The games are really different, and I suggest you watch the demo videos on youtube before making this weak comparison.

GW2 is an action game, theres no denying that. The combat is just more fluid rather than twitch-based like TERA's (I know thats what you were comparing it to). Targetting mobs doesn't make it any less of an action game just like a reticle doesn't make TERA into any more of an action game. It all depends on how they're played.
LoL as in League of Legends (DOTA), not "lol". Maybe a little "lol", too.
After playing around with the GW2 character creator, it became painfully obvious to me how similar GW2's system is to LoL, and how little it has in common with GW1:
- Same stats for classes, character traits, traditional stuff like crit chance etc.
- Some mechanics even ripped straight from LoL, like "X while passive, Y while active" abilites.
I played GW1, LoL, and WoW, and I'm afraid I'm starting to see where Anet is going with this. Quite frankly, I don't think this mix is going to work and it's not going to make experienced players happy. LoL without match progression is shallow. GW1 with limited customization is shallow. Mix it and PvP will be a shallow LoL with shallow customization. And PvE gameplay would play like... well, like playing LoL against AI mobs. Sounds exciting? For the first time, I'm getting a little concerned again -.-

After looking around at OP's post, it become painfully obvious to me how similar is this post to lol, and how little it has related to GW2.
- You said 4 pre-determined skills, but you failed to realise this is attribute to the weapon you are using, eg: holding a dagger in your main hand, and a dagger in your off-hand, wields different sets of skills. Using different equipemnt setup, such as sword in main with dagger in offhand, is gonna be different to just a 2h sword.
- There isn't dedicated classes, but if I didn't remember wrongly, LoL has, certain character's are built to tank more damage, while some are more dps.
- You also forgot that GW2, has environmental weapons, which isn't a feature in LoL
- "X while passive, Y while active" abilites, isn't a mechanic, it is simply a design feature. it is just like merging a passive ability with a active skill.
This post isn't meant to trash the OP or anything, jsut thought this was an interesting idea to mock the post

I don't even wanna know why people started to compare gw2 to dota, minecraft etc....
The only similarity with LoL is that they both have action oriented combat, thats it. But gw2 has more action, since LoL still has old version of dodging ( like 10% chance etc), while in gw2 you can dodge everything depending how good you are.
We used to call some games action-RPGs, to differentiate them from the turn-based RPGs. The classic MMOs of course aren't turn based, but are generally a derivative of that style of game. Wouldn't MMO-action-RPG be a somewhat reasonable moniker for both GW2 and TERA, to differentiate them from the traditional MMOs?
The more I learn about this game the less interested I get.
No dedicated healers, we can all heal which means everyone will be soloing rather than grouping
Only consentual PvP which means no open world FFA PvP
LoL based characters which means strictly class based with a handful of abilities. Which is good for LoL because sessions last maximum of 1h and then your character is reset but for a persistant MMORPG?
No. This game wont be revolutionary in any way, it will just be another themepark with some new features like Dynamic Quests which most likely will turn out to be something like rifts in Rift.
So whats left for us looking for something new and exciting? TERA and ArcheAge?
Which both are asian themed MMORPGs which means alot of disgustingly cuteness everywhere.
Im pretty sure that The Mists is a persistant open world PVP area in guildwars2. Anyone can go there at any level at any time, and fight.
FFA pvp is lame anyway, designated pvp zones like the mists are where its at. Its world pvp but everyone there is there for PVP, vs regular FFA where most of the time you are just ganking people trying to PVE, who likely dont have proper gear, or level.
While this isnt a new thing, since daoc did it, it is still an awesome mechanic, makes for much more enjoyable pvp than FFA, and im not sure about this, but i think that when you go into the mists you are automatically flagged for PVP so...

You never were interested in GW2.. you're not fooling anyone. And you use GW2 threads only to bash the game, so if you don't like it, you can move along.
Regarding action based games.. both TERA and GW2 are obviously action oriented. Using only FPS elements (recticle, twitch) to consider a game as action based is.. well, stupid. Every game that uses real time actions to affect the combat is imo an action game. Besides, why does everything have to be black or white is beyond me..

Oh yes, FFA certainly wouldn't turn GW2's dynamic content into a total & somewhat unplayerble gankfest (¬_¬).

What really annoys me is that people define teamwork by having that 1 class that can do that 1 thing and only that, rather have teamwork defined as people actually working together. You know... like a team. I mean, if GW2 is so solo friendly then why did the most survivable class in the game (so far) get roflstomped in this video. Also I wouldn't call having 25+ skills at your disposal being a handful of skills. Oh well, no matter what you just can't please everyone.

I think the fear is that it will lead to even less conversation and actual people working together as opposed to working alongside each other.
In difficult content with dedicated classes you need communication to ensure that every role is filled. You can't do it yourself so you need to communicate with others to ensure somebody is doing it. If you're taking damage you need to let your healer know you're now the main target. If you've got plenty of agro on one mob you need to let your DPS know they can go all out on that mob. etc.
Now granted, an increase in UI mods and easier content has led to a great decrease in this sort of actual communication. But in a dedicated class system the intent is still there.
In GW2 I don't know if it will be there. Will people really work together or will they just work alongside each other? If everyone heals then I don't need to talk to anyone or group with anyone if I want healing. If everyone has some form of control then I don't need others for that either. If I can't take out 10 mobs on my own I just wait for someone, I don't care who, to come along and take 5 of them while I take the other 5. No need to group with that person, no need to talk etc.
I'm not saying this is how it will play out. The skill combos allow for options that promote group synergy and organisation but will it be enough? Will firing your arrows through a wall of fire lead to such a benefit that it's worth the effort of coordinating it reguraly or will it be something that's nice if you come along it but don't really need in any way or form.
In short, grouping takes time and effort. In putting the group together, in coordinating with each other, waiting for each other etc. In 'classic' MMOs the advantage is that through a group you gain access to things you yourself have no access to . A healer, tank and DPS each taking on 3 elite mobs individually may very well die. The healer doesn't have the armor or DPS, the tank lacks the healing and DPS while the DPS lacks the armor and healing needed. But if the tank tanks them all, the healer heals the tank and the DPS kills them all then they'll be victorious.
So will taking on a mob with 2 players focussed on helping each other have a significant benefit over taking on a mob with 2 players each purely focussed on only killing the mob? The first is working together, the second only working alongside each other.
We are the bunny. Resistance is futile. ''/\/\'''''/\/\''''''/\/\ ( o.o) ( o.o) ( o.o) (")("),,(")("),(")(")
I think you're looking at it the wrong way. Imo you need even more communication if the roles aren't defined in the beggining. If I know one player heals and one tanks, what's there to communicate?
And Anet never said they are removing roles. They only said that everyone can play any role to some extend and that the static trinity is nonexistent. Lets say the guardian does cc in the front lines, necro does "dps" with his marks, and elementalist supports with water magic. Now the ele gets killed. In this moment the guardian and necro change roles to support and jump back to rezz the ele. Guardian puts up shield of absorption and the necro rezzes the ele. Now they can change their tactics since the last plan didn't work and the guardian swaps weapons to support, necro puts up his minions to do some crowd control and the ele starts calling meteor showers on the enemy. Or they could all go cc and keep the enemy at bay while killing them with aoe damage.
Now THAT is a fight I'd like to be a part of. There's a lot more to communication than just who will tank.
Ofc you could say this scenario is too good to be true, but it's what Anet is going for.
And this comes with another benefit. As you said before, you don't need to wait for a certain class just to play the game. Lets say you got two friends and all of you like to play melee classes. Tell me how far would you get in other MMOs unless you force your two friends to play classes they don't like?

Eat me!
