I keep reading so many negative posts about this game when it is the first to come along in a while that is playable, with customer service (albeit it takes a few days after petition) communicates with the players, and offers outstanding Warfront PvP (and the players crying the most about this are the 1 v. 1 players, when it's quite obvious Trion is balancing with teamwork in mind.) I know some people will complain about anything, but the amount of detail in Rift is astounding. Even the names of items are interesting and well thought out. My server, Sunrest is hugely populated with role play events, ambushes by both sides into enemy territory, and fairly quick grouping for dungeons. I only had one bad dungeon experience and was due to one player. The rest of us waited for a replacement, and finished. Players are for the most part mature, friendly, and informative. The soul system is a source of constant debate and now there is a reason to hit the practice dummies. No game is going to be the "second coming," but Rift deserves so much more respect than the forums seem to give it. Most mmorpgs are themepark. But that doesn't have to limit the experience. I almost never simply quest and go from point A to point B. I'm usually doing a mix of warfronts, guild planned ambushes (and i only in the 20 levels, that's how viable everyone is in this game) crafting, and rift chasing. While nothing is perfect, this game is more than competent, and should have a bright future depending solely on the timing and execution of the 2 big games coming later this year or early the next.

anyone who has been playing the game since launch, knows it has maintained its playerbase and has a very healthy population. Going forward, TRION can mantain and add to this, with appropriate content patches, expansions , etc. As far as the haters, there is a rather small percentage of posters on this site, that have nothing better to do with their lives then hope games fail and make "bold" predictions of such before release only to wait and watch and hope like vultures that their targetted game should fall, so they can look like they are so smart and their predictions came true.
Must be nice to have so much free time, that one can go to game forums they dont even play and post their sad rants.
I wonder why Rift fanboys even spend time on these forums if they are enjoying Rift so much, and why are they not present at the official Rift forums? Is the community there too "pleasant" for them?
They have some sort of emotional attachment that they feel they need to spend time "countering" what the people that hate on it are saying.
Ironic theyre different sides of the same coin, actin all crazy and wasting time posting stuff like this, just like their counterparts.
Yeah! I participated in an Air invasion in Shimmersand last night (Monday around 10 central) and there was probably 60 or 70 Defiants and a few Guardians at the boss fight! Was funsies!

Well there is not much of a point in posting "this game is great" threads in the official forums. People only go to the official forums to QQ about their overpowered play style being balanced. I mean, a game isn't fun unless you are the most OP amiright? The intention of these threads is to spread the fact that the OP enjoys his game and that the server population is stable or growing, and possibly generate interest in the game in people who have not tried it. Unfortunately, in any game on any forum, people hijack the threads and turn them into "YOU AMS FANBOI LAWOALWOL" or "I PHILOPHIZE THAT THIS ARE A DEBATE OF GRATE BRAN MY OPIONION IS FART BUHUHUHUHA....OOPS I POOPED ALITTLE"

Yin (trolls) and Yang (fanatics). You can't have one without the other
"Mr. Rothstein, your people never will understand... the way it works out here. You're all just our guests. But you act like you're at home. Let me tell you something, partner. You ain't home. But that's where we're gonna send you if it harelips the governor." - Pat Webb
Yeah the servers are still High to Full at peak hours and Medium/High the rest of the time. And because someone plays Rift they can't take part in other communities? That's pretty illogical....
ha! Indeed. I'm neither Yin or Yang, more like Ying. I play whatever game is fun, otherwise I don't play. What someone else sats about any particular game has no bearing on what I enjoy. I do add my comments. sometimes, but never criticize anyone's choice, that's there business, not mine.
I wonder why people, who apparently have sometihng against the game, bother posting in this particular section of the forums... why are they not present in their preferred game's forums? You'd think that would be the case if they truly thought their game was better.
Anyways, to answer your question it's because the people on the Rift forums ARE Rift players. We're only here to stop the trolls from saying negative, overly exaggerated, information about the game. It does no good to post positive reviews on the game's forums when it will have little to no impact on the improving the player base. Coming to a 3rd party website, especially one dedicated to ALL mmorpg game information, is more benificial to the game.
I was going to pass on RIift and wait untill GW2 or STWOR . I was tired of playing fail mmo's and figured I would give this a shot with the play for free weekend. I really enjoyed the game and was very surprised by how much fun it was. I ended up buying the game and haven't looked back since. If you are on the fence about this one go ahead and but it, you will not regret it!
I play on a PvP server in Rift, and I'll outline my favorite moment of the game so far.
One of the major invasions of the River of Souls was in progress and I was in a huge defiant raid (it was more than one full raid group could hold) going through the objectives as a group. We finished them all and it spawned a tremendous boss. After several minutes of attacking (and many people dying), its health had only moved down a sliver, so it was impressive.
Just under halfway through this intense fight, damage on my group starts to spike badly (especially on the long-range Mages/MMs in the back) and I go to start healing them - just in time to see a whole TIDE of guardians sweeping in our direction. This turned into a huge battle, but between the boss and the Guardians we were quickly demolished and sent spawning away. We quickly regrouped and tried to reclaim the boss, but the guardians had clear number advantage and were able to turn us aside time and time again while still slowly taking down the boss.
What I loved the most about this wasn't just the world event or the PvP, but the sense that there was something worth fighting for. I don't know what, if anything, the boss dropped, but I WANTED it. That there were other players in my way just made me want to take them down all the more. It was a great and fun experience, even if my side was soundly defeated multiple times over.

The server I am on right now is always between Medium and High population. I am really glad to see Rift being so popular, Trion did a great job with the game. It has been a long time since I have played an MMO that is this smooth and this complete at launch. Even though it is a typical fantasy MMO with some twists in it, still I do have fun playing.

All servers in europe are medium high or full theres sometimes a wait to get into them . Two of the three I play on are packed with people with the exception of the rp-pvp server which is still ok but not as busy but lets face it even on WoW the rp servers attract less people . There may have been a slight drop off of people who played in month one but theres even more new players coming this month as word spreads . In the eu in month 2 RIFT is 6 in many games charts (cata is 5) . Not bad for a new mmo at all . I'm pleased to see RIFT proving a new mmo can do well it will encourage developers to keep trying after games that did nt do so well like AoC and War . While its not a WoWkiller it does prove there can be a WoWkiller or maybe its the first of several games that will be collectivly the WoWkillers . Which is pretty much what any of us with any common sence have been predicting for several years now .But then again you only have to look at how some players can't pick up simple tactics in pvp to realise common sence and intelligence isn't exactly abound amongst a lot of mmo players .
All hail the Pyromancer!
Rift is a quality game, and I do think WoW's subs will take a hit because of it. Now I'm talking like 10% sub hit for WoW tops, not half their base or anything. Rift has been the only quality MMO I have seen released in a long... long time. Most companies release half-finishes pieces of #$%^, Trion is on top of their game. With that said... I actually cancelled my Rift account after hitting 50 in a matter of 1-2 weeks. After playing WoW for years a new game with the same mechanics (BGs, Raiding, Dungeon running, bread crumb quest lines) just doesn't tickle my fancy for something "new". Even if I do have nothing but praise for Trion.

Dev's have been copying, or at least trying to copy the WoW formula for success for the past 4 or 5 years.
IMO- Rift was the first ones to actually get it right and I am enjoying it.
(Server Byriel, Lvl 50 rogue and lvl 41 warrior)
While I won't argue against saying that Rift has some things similar to WoW, I will argue the fact that of the many features that Rift has... they're better than WoW's. I think a lot of people just see things as something "similar", but don't take the time to notice the differences which make those things better.
I agree with you, Rift did many things better than WoW.. I am just trying to say I need a break from that style of game. And I'm spending my time now playing indie sandbox MMOs cause I needed a change of scenery. I don't know how else to explain that without saying "it's similar to WoW". It's like not wanting to play a new FPS because you are sick of FPS's for a bit, nothing against the FPS you were playing or the new FPS that just came out, just need to mix things up.

I wonder why Rift haters spend time on Rift forums if the game is of no interest to them
Actually, I'm also a fan of this particular site. I have never posted on another forum. And I'm not a label, or whatever you call a fanyboy? I'm strictly speaking about a game in general. Why do you spend time here? RIght?
And why are you on the Rift forums if you have no interest in it kinda funny in itself also/
It just depends on the server. My server is still very crowded but there is a few that are only seeing a few hundred people on at peak hours. You can do a /who by class and count it up if you want .

Earthrise - Sick
There is that but I always thought the next successful game would build on WoW anyway in the same way WoW did on games like Everquest . Part of what I like about RIFT is its familiar but it offers what WoW once did but lost somewhere along the way
I cannot even begin to tell you how many hours i spend per week in that training area hitting those dummies lol.
Most memorable games: AoC(Tryanny PvP), RIFT, GW, GW2, Ragnarok Online, Aion, FFXI, FFXIV, Secret World, League of Legends (Silver II rank)
