The point is not about blocking trust me my list of people blocked on most mmo is full. My point is about having a good behavior in game. In real life you probably wont go to the store look at the guy at the cash and say shit to him right? Then why would you do that in game?
It would be pretty easy to put some bots on the chat and notice a combination of really harsh word, then take away there privileges like in real life. I play mmo for the people part of it and the evolution part of it. When you act like a douche, you take away a part of it.
And i have a lot of problem figuring out why you are so against consequences for those who acts like douche? Were you one of them? My solution are way less drastic than what was proposed at first and would help make the game a better place for everyone.
maybe the idea is presented a bit too extreme here but i do think that they could do something like this:
As most of you know blizz uses these Battlenet accounts......you play all their games with the same account and you can chat trough different games with friends.
If you (by you i mean the gamecompany) would perm-ban these "battlenet" accounts then people would be more carefull about trashtalking i think.
Just used these battlenet account as an example....nothing more.
Wouldnt you be more civile to people if you would have to buy another copy just because you trash talked ingame to get back into the game and now you have to make a new account and start all over??
I am not saying it will solve all the problems ingame but people who are not able to talk like normal people should be banned so they dont mess up the ingame community imho.
yeah, yeah its just a game, i can log out (dont i pay the same to play the game?).....but if you talk about my mother you ARE (verbally) attacking me personaly.....not just an virtual char on the internet.
People making things personaly ingame should be banned imho.
Horrible ideal like as other mentioned just opens up a whole new field of easy prey for sex offenders whether pedos or other types of degenerates. Anonymity on the internet lets people be their true selves which just proves my theory that most people are oxygen thieves and casualties of puberty who hopefully are sterile.
I think if a game had a first/lastname and force all alts on an account to use one or the other, or allowed players to look at an id screen and see some kind of unique identifier that is attached to all alt characters. Getting rid of global channels is another great way to keep loudmouths from being too annoying.
Forcing players to use accurate information and a simple background check would probably go a long way to make sure players cannot create multiple accounts, and help reinforce the idea that players only get one chance.

MMO customer support used to be drastically better at weeding out the really bad players and actually handing out suspensions and bannings for bad behavior. It seems that these days that they're far too lenient on dealing with customers that are disruptive.
I remember back in Ultima Online, if a player was being obscene or otherwise griefing others they would promptly be pulled into jail -- yes, the GMs had a location separated from the game world to dump problem causers into -- spoken to, and depending on how severe their behaviro was and how their previous offenses were, they were either given a warning, a suspension, or an outright ban.
These days in a game like WoW, you have people who spam racist comments and other obsceneties into the general chats, for hours at a time, and absolutely nothing happens to them. There have been instances of dozens and sometimes hundreds of players coming from one server when it had crashed onto a different server to "protest" by spamming obsceneties into chat channels. In almost all cases, absolutely nothing is done against these people. At worst they get a three hour suspension... doing the same in an older MMO would have gotten them a three DAY suspension.
Sadly it seems that a lot of companies just don't care anymore. I guess they figure that it's too much work to actually bother to enforce their rules of conduct by dealing with problem players, and that people who are bothered by it will just put up with it.
you have a fail argument, a spy can and will if is was the case use his mother name, bro, GF, whatever else to make the account in a way he can't be find out, and to ban someone from the guild is not difficult, first use vent/TS second make ia requirement to joi n your guild, ok done.
This is a government identity like a passport. It is obtained in person and relies on biometrics to attempt to ensure only one identity is issued per person.

and you still lack one thing, your said internet services would be abused, the same way you don't use your id to go to any shop or walk in the street it also prevent you from being harassed and margeting annoying you to buy things you never will use or even care. plus its fact criminals use all the social medias to get hwat they want, be it by stealing your Credti card or getting info of who you are and what you do, so they can kidnap you or someone from your family and ask a ransom.
How will a company use your identity number to contact you? They can't get to any of your information without your authorization. They can say "We won't sell you anything unless you give us your name and address", and then it becomes your choice.
Criminals wouldn't be able to steal identities unless they kidnapped you for the supporting biometric information. At that point, we're talking kidnapping. I doubt those who steal credit cards are the same sorts of people who are willing to kidnap people.

but also remember, evenif they did one part have the id the other no will happen to start to create a lot more problems because then they will start to enforce things for people who don't want his id in the internet with teh thinking, if he don't want his id on the internet he is up to no good so let's limit his access or limit his contact with other people forcing people do things they don't want,
I don't see a problem. People are already identifying themselves to every company that they purchase anything from on the internet. Having an identity system like the one I'm proposing would make people more anonymous on the web. It's one reason that companies probably wouldn't like the system - they'd no longer have all that juicy information about you.

Ah, but you do show your identity every time you walk down the street. You are identified by your appearance, which is a biometric. If you do anything wrong, people can describe you to the authorities. Something similar is needed for the internet, and an opaque identity makes sense to me. It's better than reality because it doesn't even let a shop owner know what you look like. But if you do something wrong, they can very reliably report you to the authorities.
Exactly what im saying, you wouldnt act this way in rl, dont do it ingame.
It's because a lot of people only behave when there are consequences if they don't. When you take away those consequences, they act like idiots toward others. This is due to an under developed sense of morality, maturity, and a general lack of respect for other people.
Take it away. Make everyone play with their real names. That should help cut down on the common "ninja" or the trade-chat-tough-guys! Shitty community = shitty game. Why you may ask? Because I know of no one that wants to log into a game and see words like asshat, lolumadbro, l2pnoob and the many other derogitory comments and expressions used to start drama or arguments in games. Then it would be more like...oh hey there Julio Rodriguez from TX you say you did what to my mom? Well isn't that special. Hey Julio don't you live at ***** *** street...I'll be right over with a msg from mom.
It may take several things in the news before people start realizing that talking to people like that only provokes hatred and negative feelings towards others. You can't just walk down the street calling people asshats and then when they confront you about it saying "lolumadbro" like you're some kind of Mortal Kombat E-champ that could whip his ass. You will eventually run into someone that will face stomp you.
Vote yes to real names

Oh ffs stop already with this nonsense. Look, anonymity is not FORCED upon you. If you want to play your real name go right the fugg ahead there ain't no one stopping you. Like the rich over the last week talking about how they need to increase taxes because some "want to pay more", no one is stopping you from giving money to the government. Like these people you do not want to make things better you just want to increase control. I bet you have some little idea how you should be the czar of this nonsense I bet.

Anonymity is part of what makes MMO's into RPG's. I dont want to log each time I play my regular MMO and use my real name, I want to get away from reality. What if I wish to play a female character ? Under your statement above I would have to use a male name for a female character. As a RP'er I just wouldn't do this or play the game.
Also there are a lot of loonies out there that would use your real name to track you down and do some serious harm to yourself or family. They wouldn't need an excuse to do this cause they are already mentaly unstable.
Honestly though you read like someone who is very angry or emotional to being trolled or you been burnt yourself by a ninja looter and wanted to find him in real life and cause them pain.
And for this very reason I like the way companies do not force you to use your real names.
Words, by themselves, are not lethal. However, you start putting real names behind those words and then things can (emphasis on "CAN") get out of hand. If Joe Internet says something that Manny Manic MISINTERUPRTS and does not like, Joe Internet could be the target of some form of physical revenge. One top of that, do you really want your real name out there so that people can do things like profile and credit searches. No problem you say. Think again. Post them online maybe or make a seemingly meaningless complaint to the credit companies and lets see how funny those things become.
I do not play games on the internet to let everyone into my life. I play games on the internet to have some fun. If someone says something I don't like, I just don't pay attention to them. I am not married to them. They are not my relatives. They do not mean anything to me. They are the one's making a fool of themselves so let them. Just don't expect me to give those same types my real name.
I hardly give too much credit to this because i want to get a better environement in my playtime thanks. Now if you dont have anything else *constructive* (emphasis on constructive) to say well just keep it quiet.

I could say the same ^^, but carry on, if you want a better enviroment, enforcing it will not make better, maybe more empty, if playing alone means better enviroment, then I could recomend single players.

Enforcement of rules weeding out idiots may make things more empty, but it also makes things more enjoyable for people who do follow the rules.
Many players in MMOs are behaving poorly because they simply have no reason to treat others respectfully. Not only are there little to no consequences taken against them for serious behavior issues, but MMOs are beign designed more and more where players don't need to rely on other players, or the times they do have to there is a greater level of anonymity (Dungeon Finder system for example).
In many ways, the lack of community oriented game design is what's causing terrible player behavior in MMOs.
In notime we will read in the news some gamer killed some other gamer becouse he tracked him down by his real name, reason he did this becouse he did a your mom joke on him or ninja his loot or ruin his dungeon run. We want that?

remember part of enforcing rules is making it difficult to make the felony.
Remember that part of being a respectfull person is not to make a felony. If you do nothing wrong you have nothing to be afraid about?

Was a bit surprised by that, since it didn't mention anything about displaying personal info to the public during registeration.

Displaying real info doesn't change anything due to the fact that being on the internet is just an impersonal experience, unless people were immediately face-to-face and in person (not possible) then the emanate 'jackass-ery' will always be there.
The only thing forcing users to display real life info would promote is occasion cases of real life violence, if or when a person's actions in a game caught up with them (but as I mentioned already, those reprecusions wouldn't be immediate, so it wouldn't change anything about how people behave in-game).
I agree with everybody who said this is bad idea. There is too many creepy people on the internet and I don't want to make it easier for them to find me.
