Vacation Time: Is this game still crap?

LienhartLienhart Member UncommonPosts: 662

I played Final Fantasy XI to an inasne extent, multiple 75s and I was pretty fat when I used to play it too.

I tried Open Beta for FFXIV, said to myself "wtf is this" and never touched it. FFXIII also made me want to punch bunnies. FFXII's story was wtf to me.

Did they fix this game yet? I miss all the FFs from 11 and back -_-

I live to go faster...or die trying.

Pretty sure they had a few guys in the SE office who were like "AH HA we can fix this"...

...but they were swept away by recent events...

Can you.. elaborate? Do you mean the natural disaster or did something game changing happen that I'm not aware of?

... It was a poor attempt at off-humor.

No, nothing of any note has changed with the game.  Still sucks.

    give it a shot, $20... don't go to McDonald's 3 times?

Obviously Ikeda doesn't even play the game, because they have changed tons.

They completely did the UI...like three times.  Its A LOT better now.  Faster, cleaner, easier to navigate, etc.

Combat is also easier and more fluid, and they even made a bunch of the monsters bigger just so you didn't feel lame attacking tiny stuff.

They added notorious monsters but they arent like FFXI NMs, they are within quests.

They added + updated the market ward system.  It's organized plus has a search feature now, which basically makes it like an Auction House but you have to walk to the NPC who has the item you want.

They also made retainers easier to use and I think I read you can have two now.  I still have one and havent tried to get another so I'm not sure if that's in yet.

They also changed how exp works in a party so that its more fair.

That's all I can think of for now.  You can go to the website and read a few of their major update patch notes to get a better idea.

I've been wanting to try it out because it's basically buy-to-play at the moment.  Too bad my rig won't run it :P

So the UI is better now? Can someone post a screenshot or link one?

I give video games (that are free or demos) a strict 5-10 minute timer to make an impression on me otherwise, I don't spend $ on it (save $ this way). FFXIV was, however, one of the few games that got uninstalled immediately after character creation and a few battles.

The UI when I played in open beta just doesn't work anymore. FFXI's UI  I can deal with because I'm used to it, FFXIV's UI was....just crap.

The combat system was also......argh =(

I didn't think I would need to include the ridiculously silly stuff FFXIV has done.  Like making a search for an item being sold by a vendor... and then FORCING you to run around all the vendors to find the one you're looking for ONLY to find someone got there before you.

Or those HUGE creatures.  Hahaha.  That games makes some of the dumbest stuff ridiculously possible.

And yes, the UI has changed.  But not IMO for the better.

Don't claim I don't play because I feel that these are insignificant changes and do not adequately change the game enough to tell people "sure, go subscribe, you'll love it!".  If I did that, I'd be just as big of a liar as some of those PR guys in MMO's.  Our game is awesome!  Bleh.  I don't pull my punches.  I can't help it they haven't shut the server down yet.  It's coming though.  Tabula Rasa FTW.

I cant log in at work to take a screenshot so these that I found on google will have to do XD

    Before: http://www.kesac.net/ffxiv/ffxiv_ob_stats1.jpg

    Now: http://www.ffxivcore.com/index.php?app=core&module=attach&section=attach&attach_rel_module=post&attach_id=7251

As you can see they made all of the bars larger and added your level and job exp bars so you dont have to go to the menu to check that.  All of the bars are moveable, in the screenshot that person put them at the top but personally I have them at the bottom like most MMOs have.

I cant find a screenshot but they did a lot with the equipment window too since it was painful just equipping and unequipping items and finding what you wanted to equip in your inventory.  Now it filters the items for each slot for you and is a lot easier to use.

The search feature shows you which instance the vendor is at and then shows you which vendor the item is at by having a dot or star(can't remember how it looks like) above the vendor. Are you really that lazy that you can't spend seconds going to the vendor to buy something?

So you're saying that the game doesn't have a monthly subscription fee?

That's right.  At the moment its buy to play. Way back in December (or even November?) of last year they announced it would not have a subscription fee until they felt the game was 'good enough' to warrent one.

They havent said anything yet about when that will be, and I imagine they'll give at least a months notice.  Furthermore, right now you dont have to pay to have multiple characters, so you can make one for each starting nation to check out each story (since each nation has a different plot) without having to pay.

There are probably better things to do with your money.

I'm saving for a ducati which I plan to buy next year lol but I want to play one mmo this summer.....so far, it looks like I am either gonna go back to WoW, or F2P jump.

This game is already a treat to look at, so I'd honestly be sold the moment they implement an auction house (strange that they'll probably never do that) and add meaningful group content.

  • LienhartLienhart Member UncommonPosts: 662

btw ty very much for the screenshots, UI does look a lot better now...though it looks..F2Pish =(

You're too pessimistic. The item search is step one away from manually checking EVERY retainer to look for one item. Sure it's no auction house, but it's a step up and you can't say it's finalized as that. And people are entitled to their opinion, but at this rate you're just trolling. The UI has changed, idk if you were there in the beginning, but the main thing we players wanted was a reasonable response time, inventory sorting, etc, and they've delivered. Doesn't matter much if it looks better or not, at least it's useable.

The game is now PLAYABLE, compared to before. I agree that it's not worth the time atm, since it has almost no content, but if they released content first without fixing the mechanics, no one would play it either.

Actually you can resize and relocate all that. You can make the HP/MP bars and such as wide as you like. That "after" screenshot you posted is just the way that particular player set theirs up.

Obviously you don't play if you think the game has a subsciption.

So what you're saying is.. because you have a subscription.. (and YES it IS a subscription, even if you don't currently pay)... that you don't pay for (because EVEN SE admits the game sucks SO bad they would rather charge you NOTHING than have it completely implode) is recommendable to people?

    I think not.

And yes, I'm pessimistic.  I'm mad that the dev's think that they can arbitrarily release a game in the state that they launched it in.  I'm mad that they PURPOSELY launched with stuff like Chocobo stables and airships and failed to launch with those items IN GAME but yet left this BIG HUGE placeholders.  If you can spend the time to make placeholders, you can launch with the content.  I'm mad that Vendors show items that have NOTHING to do with what the vendors actually carry.  I'm mad that they limited the total number of quests you could do per day. (this was subsequently partially changed but not enough for my tastes)  This game is a failure, nothin you can do will affirm it's worth.  In fact, look up MMORPG.com's review of the game if you don't believe me....

.... oh wait, the game was so piss poor that THIS SITE didn't review it.

OP asked if this game was crap and it most DEFINITELY is!

  • HyanmenHyanmen Member UncommonPosts: 5,357

It's crap, but if you like following the game change it's pretty entertaining. May is going to be nice.

If people talking about a new game and focus on how playable is the game could be which also meant to me the game is dying.  Just let it go ~

I did not play FF11 and am am only luke warm to the single player games. I picked this game up for 16 bucks and thought I would give it a try. I only played for about two weeks.

If you can throw away 20 bucks or so get it.  It might be good at some point.

“It's unwise to pay too much, but it's worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little money - that's all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot - it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.”
