Expect more players coming over from WoW.

StirgeStirge Member Posts: 15

WoW is a great game.  But after 6 months, I (a fairly casual player) already have a level 60 main character, several high level alts, and have just about explored the entire game world.

I think it will be some time before Blizzard releases an expansion with new content.  So I plan to pay a visit to Norath very soon.  I think you can expect to see a lot more players like me making the move from WoW to EQ2 as we enter the second half of '05.

Even when the expansion come out i can't see you going back to WOW. EQ2 is the better game.
  • anarchyartanarchyart Member Posts: 5,378

True. WoW is funtastic but im almost level 60 now too and while PvP is a blast, I dont think it will hold me there. Thankfully I have EQ2 also and SWG those 2 will get me through till Vanguard is release.

Whatever happens, happens.  If players start filtering over from WoW because they've done all there is to be done, so be it.  I'm planning to try EQ2 again, but I have no intention of quitting WoW though.  I'll play whichever I feel like at a given time and have fun with both.

    Cheers.  image

I agree with Willjones420 (420 National Smoke day wooooo!) i have a lvl 60 rogue and rank 5 in pvp atm, but im not quitting WoW i'm still keeping my account, but i am gonna be giving EQ2 a try again.. especially since they're adding duels.

Yep, i'm another that's going back to EQ2... i got bored of EQ2 months ago, but the expansion looks kickass, enough for me to come back and level up to cap before the expansion comes out.l

I just returned to eq2 after quitting 1 month after release... the game has improved soo much and has much more staying power to me then wow

  • SaigonshakesSaigonshakes Member Posts: 937

Of course Eq2 has more staying power. I knew it would only be a matter of time before people started getting tired of WoW.

    I sincerely hope you're right.

It's a lack of strong competition that's allowed Blizzard to become apathetic and let several pressing issues negatively affect WoW (eg. slow patch cycle, barely any content updates, condescending attitude to the community/limited communication, lousy PvP system...).

Maybe if people start leaving in droves they'll pull their collective thumb out of their ass and do something.

I agree fire, theres nothing like healthy competiton to get a company going.

True but it's not coming from SOE.

That's by far the most realistic water I've ever seen in a game. Wow.

Well, the players that were lured to WoW by Afterlife lies will prolly go to old EQ or to EQ2(at least, until Vanguard come out).

The average WoW player who start to strongly dislike the ''must raid/guild'' stuff will most likely walk elsewere, yet the few converts to a happy raiding land will certainly consider EQ or EQ2.

''Must raid lovers'' are a minority, I dont dislike or like them, but I certainly hate when they try to encourage us to play a game that is not designed for non-raiders in anyway.

Eventually the same players that are getting bored of WoW and going to EQII will get bored of EQII and go back to WoW or another game. I am not saying anything is wrong with that, you gotta play what you are having fun with at the moment.  Also even if WoW lost half of there subscribers right now to EQII, WoW will still have more subsribers.  Thanks!

yeah, and there are more console gamers than PC gamers....

But consoles are not better than PCs....just easier to play for kids and the simple-minded. I think of WoW in much the same way.

And eventually, some of those people will outgrow the kid games and look for something with some more "meat". This will lead them to games like EQ2.

This is whats good about WoW, it have 1.5 million subscriptors right now.  Probably 50% of that are people who are new to MMOGs.  Some of these people will get burned out playing this game.  They might head over to EQ2 since its really the next pretty well known game out there.

With the new expansion coming out this September, we will see more people returning to EQ2.  Who knows we might be seeing an increase of population from 275,000 to maybe 400,000 by December.

Have played: CoH, DDO EQ2, FFXI, L2, HZ, SoR, and WW2 online

Well said and very true. I do hope the industry remains very competitive otherwise your going to see the quality of most games go farther down the tube. Its also my only issue with the Station Pass. It lowers expectations on any one game since you get them all so cheap. I am saving a ton but at the same time it can be destructive to the quality of the games.

I have to agree.  At any given time, there's probably an equal amount of players getting bored of their current game and switching over to a new one.  My husband and I got bored with EQ2 a couple months ago and decided to give WoW a try.  If we do get bored with it, we'll just wait for another good MMORPG to be released.

I think the issue may not be the game sometimes. It's the short attention spans many people have.  It's very hard to keep folks attention for years and years (who knows how EQ did it), it requires regular and dynamic content releases.  Which, yes, that depends on the game developers, but the results won't be seen I think for another year or so.  Look at the amount of subscribers then to tell.

WOW was released for the here and now and it has excelled at it.

EQ2 was released with the intent of long term dominance and has so far proven to be an incredibility adoptive platform capable of such a goal.

    "long term dominance", laughable.

Many people leave EQ2 because of boredom and frustration.

I think you might need a lesson or two in business development.  From what I have seen the model used for the EQ2 roll out is a very solid one.  Take the bias hat off for a sec and think about it.  Have you ever seen a platform flex in the ways that EQ2 has?  Have you ever played a game that launches with graphics far (seriously far) beyond those useable in the current market?  Did you not notice that the content released at launch was microscopic compared to the original?  Do you not see that one comparatively tiny zone from the original game comprises an entire expansion?  Did you catch on to the fact that they are taking the time to reinvent the soon to be old world content so that it does not become lost space?  Have you see the marketing ploys?  Those hideous marketing ploys…

    <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Point being this is Sony they are not idiots.  Yes they will ignore you and see just how much they can squeeze out of you BECAUSE THEY CAN.  Do you really think that they have not calculated player attrition due to releasing a premature game?  Do you not think that they have enough money to fund a long term experiment in consumer manipulation?

This is business and as far as business goes Sony has the competition beat hands down.

As a by product you I get to play the most adoptive and detail oriented game on the market.

    To you I say:

is that why WoW just offered a Free expansion and is selling for still around ~50 bones and EQ is a good 20 bucks cheaper?

SOE got caught with their pants down hard , hard core and have been cloning WoW ever since.

  • SideSwipeSideSwipe Member Posts: 44
Mabey blizzard have to offer the expansion for free because all its going to add to the game is stuff they promised would be in release.
