not all all mounts are nice fluff but thats all it is unless they come up with a way to jaust on. Them then i would want one lol but not that into mounts in anygame.
I love calculating the most effective way to get things done but I also love a game where things are hard and take effort.
So if the game gives me the options to do things the easy way and likely still get the same reward as doing things the hard way I won't enjoy it. If I do it the easy way then It'll just feel without challenge and I don't find myself caring about the game world. If I do things the hard way I'll just feel like I'm wasting time as I could have gotten the same result with half the effort.
If those hidden dynamic events have special and interesting rewards and take serious effort to find then I'm interested. Otherwise I'll probably check a few of them out, out of interest but as soon as I notice that I'm not achieving that much compared to the effort I'm putting in I'll stop looking. And frankly, I think a decent bit of all players is with me on that. Though I don't think too many of them will admit it.
Also, for me exploring means going to places you can't see. If there's a burning village there on the horizon that you can clearly see then it's not really exploring in my opinion, it's just travelling.
Plus exploring should turn up the extraordinary. If those hidden dynamic events are basically just the same as those that are easily found then imho it's just turning up the ordinary. And as such not that interesting.
This is exactly my concern. I want immersion, but the game world and everything in it should be taken advantage of. Whatever the game gives you, you take. Not using waypoints would feel like shooting myself in the foot. The teleport system is not designed for people like us
what i want to say is GW2 is some kinda differete from GW1,GW2 has not only PVP but PVE , so i don't think it can be a reason for no mounts in GW2
Huh? GW1 had both PvE and PvP.
I have not heard them confirm nor deny the existance of mounts in-game. I could be wrong though. I have not read up on every interview.
Devs have said in a past article a few months or so back that they have discussed mounts, but see no need for them with so much going on in the game. However they did say they havent thrown the idea completely out as perhaps in the future they may add it, but it would most likely be far after release.

I still want mounts, even if they're useless and unnecessary. Players that don't want to use them don't have to use them. It won't hurt the game to HAVE mounts but if they don't, it might turn people off who want to ride around on a horse or something.
It's better to have the option than no option at all.

To travel large distances and experience the world in between.
Norn Ranger: a REAL hunter walks around in the woods on his BARE feet.
Norn Ranger will be using portals for the most part like everyone else.
Mounts won't make or break the game for me but I preffer large seamless worlds in MMOs. If I'm short walking distance and one click away from my main social hub at all times then its not as large as I'd like it to be.
They'd all be of mixed charr & asura design with a built in waypoint system so that they could teleport out when needed, they'd look pretty nice, and they'd cost $100 a piece from the store. That way, people who want to show off can pay for the privilege, and those funds go into creating extra content that everyone can enjoy. No speed boosts or abilities, or anything like that, just purely aesthetic mounts.

Well then if it is about options, if mounts are added to the game, should be purchasable only after your character gets to level 80. This way the people that do not want to use mounts on certain characters will have the option to not use them. The people that want to use waypoints will have most of them unlocked by level 80 so they can ignore mounts. Then the people that want mounts can ignore the waypoints and ride around on mounts.
Although from reading this thread that will not really matter since a lot of people go to the easiest solution. Waypoints are easier than mounts, so apparently none of those people would ever use a mount. But I guess it would be available for some people to use.

That "experiencing the online world" reason sounds OK, but still, what's so different about traveling with mounts, besides that it's faster? If you like exploring the world, then time doesn't matter right? I like the idea of a game with no mounts and I will not miss that mount up button.
I specifically remember a dev saying there would be mounts. I remember him talking about them. However, I could be wrong. I don't think they're near done enough to even think about mounts yet. Anyway, I thought mounts would be a great idea for players who wish to explore the vast land of Tyria. As they said, they want players to be able to explore and find something new around every corner, and mounts are a fast way to get to doing that. If you are wanting to fast travel and you don't care for exploration, so be it. If you don't care for mounts/don't want them, then just don't buy them. I think they should definitely not allow mounts in PvP areas, however.
So it seems alot of people either havent gotten their hands on the guild wars 2 demos, or just havent watched the videos floating around youtube of the gameplay. The world is quite open...theres alot of "nothingness" (i.e. trees, nature, etc)...a light-medium mixing of mobs but not a massive cluster of them like what you saw in Guild wars 1. Not only that the cities are HUGE! Literally they are massive and emmersive. even the street chatter has its own vibe and style. And its not just a precompiled noise that goes in the background...walk through the city and you will hear individual conversations happening...The outside world is nowhere NEAR linear. step outside and you've got roads that outline the beaten path...and then the rest is up to you... 360 degrees of wtf_where_should_i_go?
Also in response to the OP and all you pro mount goonies...These are the reasons why mounts are not needed, wanted, desired, necessary, (insert other words here):
There is teleporting - the main reason
Your character moves at a comporable speed, so why do you need a mount?
Mounts would just get in the way, unless they added a system for them to be used in combat(which i doubt they will) then they will just be excluded. Which they are.
Its their effing game they can do whatever they want with it.
Though the world is open and you have to discover waypoints before you can teleport to them...it takes very little time to discover them and a mount might shave off, maaaybe, a minute...maybe less.
There is no real advantage to having them, except status symbol and as a collectible. But if guild wars 2 is anything like the original then there will be plenty for you to collect besides mounts.

"There is no open world pvp" That has not been announced. In fact very little about the pvp has been announced. BUT it can be said that guild wars has always focused more on team v team/ guild v guild battles. it didnt even focus on 1v1. There was no dueling system in the original(cant speak for gw2). But with this open world they might surprise us.
MMO's are the ark of the gaming world. Let it take us in new directions.
I think they should definitely not allow mounts in PvP areas, however.
If the game entailed Open World PvP then how would that little idea work? No one ever stops to think of that. "dont allow it in pvp areas" the world is a pvp area...so now what? dont allow them at all

"The world of Tyria will be PvE. There are no plans to have PvP servers. PvP is supported and will include instanced, team based games and an area known as 'The Mists' which will have massive World vs World combat. You can jump in to team based games on an equal footing with the same character level and item quality as everyone else. The Mists is a massive battlefield that players of all levels can jump in to and participate at their current level, Making gains in The Mists will unlock bonuses for your server. Players are allowed to switch servers but there will be limits to ensure balance for the Mists."

We are talking about fast travel here and thats not mounts vs walking but mounts vs portals. Both sistems have option of walking, its not like you have your mount glued to your ass.
I preffer a healty mix, something like 1 portal/zone but with zones large enough to make mounts useful and convenient way to travel.
Norn Ranger: a REAL hunter walks around in the woods on his BARE feet.

That hasn't been announced? Yes it has! A bunch of times in various interviews! They said that whilst there will be PvP, it won't interact with the PvE environment, instead they're going for stuff like arena combat, WvWvW and so on. The reason for this is griefing. They made a bunch of points as to how they were removing griefing and they are as follows:
Resource nodes are instanced to players, you can't steal a resource node from someone, you both get it.
You can't steal an objective/loot, in dynamic events, everyone gets the same outcome if they participate.
High level players are scaled to whatever level content they step into so they can't ruin it for lower level players.
If you don't do anything in a dynamic event, the scaling ignores you and removes your chance for a reward.
There is no open world PvP at all, so you can't kill someone whilst they're enjoying PvE content.
PvP and PvE are housd separately so the two players can enjoy their gamestyle without impacting upon others.
It's all about their philosophy of "No, you can't grief people, so stop trying." and if a way is discovered, they'll just patch it out. That's the sort of game they want to make and I appreciate it, to be honest. And no, I doubt you'll be able to flag yourself as PvP-able, either, since the last thing people want is a PvP fight happening in the middle of a dynamic event, with people being killed off in the middle of fighting, as that all goes against their policies.
If you think about the sort of game they're trying to make, it becomes obvious why there won't be open world PvP.
This teleportation is going to continue to make Guild Wars and all games they put out, not feel like an MMO in my opinion. I for one want a large open world to run around and explore. Can't really get that done in a fun way by teleporting. I think an open world with mounts and mounted combat would be pretty sweet.

You have a narrow self-defined definition of "MMO" then. I'm sure it's been said before, but if you wanna walk, you are more than welcome to. You'll have to explore areas for them to show up on your teleport-map. How many times are you going to "re-explore" an area anyways? It's not really exploration, if you've been there 10 times before.

To be honest, if I wasn't SO curious about the DE and personal story, I'd probably go into WvWvW and just stay there until I was 80.

well the fast teleport system is good enough as it is a PVP-main game, maybe they just don't think mount is the style of this game.
