However, after a month of Rift, and a few weeks playing MMOFPS games, im thinking i might like a mmorpg witha  good community, and some fluff.

So i gotta ask, what on earth has changed with vanguard in the last year that requires a 2hr update?  Have they ever added new content?

What have they done to improve the game in the last year that would require such a significant update?

Im really not all that interested in vanguard to be honest, but i hate having to make a new email and station account every time i want to give a game a revisit to see if its right for my mood at the time, am i going to be treated to the same boring, one quest chain, noob island thats all but dead again?

Basically what im saying, if nothing changed i just may cancel this huge update (i mean why is there such a big update needed if they didnt add new material?)

Just for anyone wondering...the Trial island is nothing like the game itself, it's an easy introduction to the game that gets you good gear. The actual game has so many quests you'll never be able to do them all (literally). In the game there are so many quests you generally pick and choose which sounds the funnest/best/gear if you want. There's no shortage of quests, or paths to go in.

Awe this makes me want to join you guys ^_^ I loved Vanguard back when I played it regularly.

But I'm defintly a MMO Gypsy moving form MMO to MMO with nary a care. I've already purchased pretty much all the ones that need to be purchased and it's just a matter of which do I want to put that months budgets MMO fund towards.

I'd totally play some Vanguard if there were people to actually play with... I get lonely and enjoy adventuring buddies...

PS: Didn't they stop production? :-/ makes me kinda sad.

I saw 24 people online in my first day in the Twilight guild, a pleasant surprise. I find myself doing a bunch of grey quests now, because I've become slighly attached to this area and I want to finish what I started. Pretty unheard of in any other games for me.

after reading all of this, the games sounds ancient.  So why can't that one person run it on their PC?  Seems like it should work with any PC that could run FFXI, WoW, or any of those free Aeria game.  Am I correct in stating this?

the other day I was exploring this spider cave I found that had lower lvl mobs but they were more "elite". Because of that they actually game my character a run for it's money but didn't give any xp. But it still didn't matter because the simple act of exploring was being satisfied.

This was one of the number one things I thought that mmo's were going to be about and yet most aren't.

There are like 10 quest for the spider cave, you get them in town.  It's like a beginners dungeon. Each 10-20 level area has one.

I think I know the cave you are talking about, I think it's in Thestra. this one is in Qalia and was just sort of inconspicous. I will say the one you are thinking of is very large and extremely cool.

Today I was in one of the northern parts of thestra and decided to do some exploring. Well, to be honest that is the only way I actually play the game as I tend to avoid most quests.

I found an area that led up and up to the top a a very large hill. At the top was this ruin of a tower and inside was this "glob". Sort of a yellow and blackish "blob" that was on the larg"ish" side.

When I moused over it I got the info that it was delicious cheese. AS this was moving it seemed like a lie but sure enough it yielded this cheese that essentially replenishes a large amount of health and energy.

I also discovered this crypt in the same area but it was being guarded by some 3 dot skeleton/undead things. as they were my level I'm not sure I wouuld be able to get too far inside but will try when I get some more levels on me.

You guys really missed out then. Back when the game released some dungeons or caves are much bigger than what they are now. Take for example the Conlor Mines in thestra. You can get lost in there really easily. Now its basically a circle run around and come back to the entrance. They've really made some dungeons a lot smaller than what it used to be.

If that's true then that's a damn shame.

but you know, it's like the horse I like to beat which is the original old forest in LOTRO.

It was amazing. I mean,  got so lost in there that I had to really concentrate to get out. It was a blast. It was actually made by a developer who was a bit more "old school" but was asked to make it easier for everyone else.

Well, today the old forest is just one giant "path with some twists and turns. Not so dangerous either.

I haven't played LOTRO since release (I made a guild back then, and had to leave due to school), but I remember that forest specifically. It's a shame they changed it.

Just out of curiosity. Are European players allowed to join the US server?

I may give this a try since it´s only about  10$ and everyone always keeps saying it´s so immersive.

Also, i assume it comes with one free month when you buy it?

    Rawr.

    Yes we are ;-)

And I bought my client on eBay for only € 5 including postage... 1 month free, the rest of the time free as well since SOE screwed up my account data :-D

@All yell here when you're around level 13. I have a necco and bard of that level and would love to rejoin VG again, but alone at that low level is so alone :'(

I wouldnt insta re-sub if SOE put even a few devs back on this game.  I loved my Cleric and Sorc, and adored the rich harvesting and crafting system.

Think i'll download today and dig out my old log in details.  I'm MMO homeless at the mo.

I never did try this game. I did hear some pretty nasty horror stories of people who played it at launch, which is what kept me away from it so long. Well that and I hear it's a SOE game. And in my experience they make some of the greatest MMOs out there, and shortly thereafter, completely destroy them intentionally. But I'm bored as hell, and there isn't a single MMO out there I even have the slightest interest in playing otherwise. So may as well try it.

To find an intelligent person in a PUG is not that rare, but to find a PUG made up of "all" intelligent people is one of the rarest phenomenons in the known universe.

Please do.  I can guarantee you will not regret it.

Have a peek over at http://VGInterface.com as well for some great custom UI's.  I can recommend any that incorporate Drox, infomap and Maddycraft within a compilation.

Can anyone still active recommend a good crafting resource website?  I see VGCrafters has shut down :(

Info map is all you really need basically, it gives you all the locations of all types of resource nodes. Unless you're looking for crafting quests info then thats another story. There was a website that I used to go to cant really remember the which but I'll do a lil research since I got nothing to do.

    EDIT: http://vanguard.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page

check that website out, it might help, but IDK if thats what you're looking for. I swear there was another WIKI site that was more in depth, but cant seem to find it.

It wasn't that, I'm assuming that they lowered the size down because some places are just for exploring and have no real revelance to anything, like theres no quests to dungeon crawl in there. Just lots of mobs and some bosses with good yellow drops. Since the population dropped, I guess there was no real point in them leaving it as big as they were.

yup i wanted to play EQ, finished patching the game right around 11:30 pm then went to sleep, woke up was late for work so I called in sick instead of going in late. Big mistake! lol they shut the games down and I wasted a sick day with nothing to do at home. what a bummer!

Really unfortunate for us who just signed up for a sony game again, but how often does this happen? Well its a once in a lifetime and I'm sure we'll be able to play very soon. In the meantime I'm catching up with some singleplayer games.
