This may be good for casuals but it may also make the game a little too shallow for people to truly feel involved.
One of the great aspects of pvp in old mmos is that people spent so much time and had such a large attachment to their character that it added a new incentive to be good at pvp. I mean it was like throwing your hundreds of man hours manifested into your character vs another person's hundreds of man hours and seeing who had learned the game better.
You are misconstruing what that means. They have already stated that people will get buffed up if they arent max level so that the fights are more "fair" regardless of what level the players are.

*Sigh~* Here we go again. (¬_¬)
They have said countless times that when entering the Mist (WvWvW); you are bringing your character, as they are, with the weapons, skills, traits & level remaining the same; as they were before entering. Now if you're a level 20 and you CHOOSE to be side-kicked up to your friend's level, before & maybe even after entering the mist, then so be it. There is nothing about forcing fairness on upon players in WvWvW, it is supposed to be unpredictable and unbalanced. The only balancing will be in regards to the skills (PvP version of the skills) and the server match-ups.
I repeat... No mandatory level buffs or weapons buffs!
So, WvWvW GW2 is basically like BGs, except persistent over the week, and it's server v server v server? Just trying to understand the very basic concept of it as I've really never heard of it before.
This may be good for casuals but it may also make the game a little too shallow for people to truly feel involved.

It's already been stated that lower level characters will receive various buffs to even the playing field. It would seem this is a reading comprehension issue again where people did not read up on the specifics.
They went into this extensively in an interview and why they had decided that leveling the playing field for low levels entering the mists was the route they were taking. Something along the lines of they wanted everyone to be able to contribute without just feeding/trolling.
I have no idea why they use WvWvW - I don't use it and I'm not going to. Maybe we should try out tri-realm RvR? I think that at least sounds a bit more legitimate.
And for all you people that have not heard of a 3 realm system - that is because there is only one mmo that has done it (and it worked out amazingly well). That mmo was daoc. This tr-realm RvR that they're doing looks to me to be nearly identical to what daoc did, and to me that is a great thing because no one has done it better than daoc yet! So who knows about the specifics - will there be seamless zones or will it be actual zones - what exact content besides keep taking will there be - etc etc. But we do know the general form that this tri-realm RvR is going to take, and from my understanding what they are doing will allow for some of the best RvR 95% of you have ever seen.

Well that just depends how old school you are. EQ1 had team based pvp zek servers that had 3-4 factions. They were very popular.
And EQ1 was definitely a much larger success relevant to it's time (and ongoing) than daoc is/was
As a matter of fact tallon zek is where a lot of mythic devs got the idea to go with more than 2 factions for a pvp game.
They don't call it Realm vs. Realm, because it's not realms fighting, it's worlds fighting. There is a distinction between having a server (world), and a realm (subset within a server) fighting.
Really, they call it WvW, but I like WvWvW because it looks like teeth. *cough* More seriously, it's gone into common usage because it is a three way fight, so people like adding the vW

In reality it's just an illusion. Whether you want to call it midgard or server #2 it's just another group of players.
The question is to which scale wvwvw will be.
After playing the game at pax i am a bit skeptical that their game can handle large scale fights without severe lag.
The game lagged to all hell with 50 players spamming spells with pvp disabled (less taxing than with pvp enabled where it has to do hit checks and calculate all the damage/effects on various players) so i am really skeptical as to how it will handle hundreds in pvp.
I have a feeling people will avoid large scale battles cause of the lag and the game will be forced into 10v10v10 type engagements, which isn't very epic at all.
A marketplace that spans all servers is very disappointing. I dont like the fact that you will be buing items from players you will never see or that price trends on your server fluxuate depending on higher or lower populated servers.
Why the hell do people say WvWvW? what is the point..I know worlds fight each other but really? it just looks stupid..
.. to emphasize 3 factions. I guess you could use 3WvW. WvW just isn't going to cut it because WAR's RvR only has 2 factions. DAoC has 3 factions and I think they used the standard' PvP', right? It could have something to do with patented phrases, also.

I think I read that you don't have to pay to switch servers, so I don't see how that is even an issue.
Vault-Tec analysts have concluded that the odds of worldwide nuclear armaggeddon this decade are 17,143,762... to 1.

So server transfers are free and the market is across all servers? No thanks.

If you take some time to read the orange text and the link I provided it shows that nothing happens to your character when you enter WvWvW. You get buffed for structured PvP, but that is another thing altogether.

Please stop spreading misinformation. It's already been stated in several interviews. This is worse than the time people claimed the game would release in 2011 when it has obviously been set for 2012.
You get buffed when you enter the mists if you are low level... this is part of their oooh-ahh dynamic scaling, which is just casual friendly handholding.
Buffing a character up to at least some minimum level seems logical to me, it would be strange for a L15 character to contribute anything worthwhile in an environment with mostly L80 characters.
But is there some link or source to a dev interview or so where they stated how it'll work ingame, buff or no buff, sidekicked or not sidekicked?

You can have a friend sidekick you up to their level, but you get no buffs or anything else when you enter on your own.

Yeah, seems pretty clear. Although I'm not too happy about it. This creates more than an unbalanced atmosphere, it makes WvW a steamroller's paradise. At least if everybody was buffed up to 80, they'd have similar health and energy pools, but the additional skills and gear that natural 80s (or any higher level toon) have would still give them a susbstantial advantage. The way this is designed, if you can't get sidekicked up, you're a victim looking for a place to go splat.
WvW suddenly seems a lot less interesting. At least DEs still look awesome.

It was stated that it is meant to be unbalanced. They also stated that there are plenty of things to do no matter what level you are.

I seem to remember hearing something similar, which is what got me interested in WvW in the first place, but I can't find a source. And until you can cite one, romanator0's reference trumps you. I hate to say it but I hope you're right. Otherwise I probably won't be bothering much with WvW.
Is any character advancement/development linked in the World versus World PvP, or is character advancement still done purely through PvE?
Jeff Strain: It is certainly not that case that you ever need to participate in this World versus World PvP. It is strictly there for people that enjoy it. Role-players can strictly stay on the role-playing track.
But yes, you can choose to gain experience and progress your character in the World versus World PvP.
Ben Miller: One of the other aspects of World versus World PvP that makes it more accessible is that 'I have an extremely low level character and you have an extremely high level character' - we're going to integrate a side-kicking system that allows my play experience to be more on par with say your power level.
So instead of me going out there and getting absolutely owned and trying to keep up with higher level characters, the side-kicking system will kind of equalise my character to yours. So we'll both have a fun, competitive time without a lot of the necessary grinding that I would have to do to get high level armour and stuff.
It does seem to imply that you need someone else who sidekicks you to their level instead of an automatic buff. Unless they changed it in the meantime.
I'd prefer something of a minimum buff up to let's say L50 equivalent character as a default, but that you could get sidekicked to higher level by high level other players.

YOu might as well be claiming there will be dedicated healers.
? A bit harsh, mate. Was that a reply upon my post?
If so, doesn't that apply to everyone, to not spread misinformation?
Anyway, it's not a 'job', I was asking around if anybody maybe had some links or sources ready, before I did a search myself. No big deal, man, if people don't have any ready at hand.

If you are going to claim something then you should provide proof that its true. I said you don't get buffed in WvWvW, I provided a link that proves that.
I wouldn't claim there are dedicated healers because that is common knowledge and there are at least 2 articles that prove that.
