Anyone else expecting issues at launch?

DistopiaDistopia Member EpicPosts: 21,183

It seems a lot of people expect (considering the budget) this game to be just about flawless at release. I just can't see that happening. Maybe because it's never really happened, maybe because I'm a bit of a pessimist on the subject. Things I expect are issues with quests, long waits to enter servers, graphical abnormalities here and there, maybe some crashing, the usual stuff really for both MMO and single-player games.

Anyone else feel this way?

I feel the game will be as polished as possible as far as stability is concerned, and one of the reasons for me is that,   they have their guild system set up in such a way that it will probably  help a lot with server overcrowding.  Big guilds that have alliances and enemies will probably be balanced on some of the lower population servers and as caps are close to being reached they'll start auto populating on other servers as well, kind of spreading out some of the population.

If we run into anything, I'd imagine it be some server queues,  but,  we didn't see any issues like that with the launch of WAR really.  I think BioWare will be prepared in the launch department.

Opening day launch issues is no big deal really.

Yeah I do like what they're doing in regard to guilds and alliances, especially considering a lot of the guilds and alliances from my old SWG server are going to be playing TOR. We're hoping we can all get on one server.

If your expecting a game to have no issues at launch now days your ignorant. Plain and simple. Every mmo , hell everygame over the last 5-6 years has released with 3 or more major bugs. The devs get blamed but it comes down to many things. One a over demand on the game from the communtity, and more so the publisher/funder wants their ROI, Return on/of Investment. If a game goes to far on past a set date it starts needing more money than originally planned for. THe money then adds up and there comes a time where the publishers either pull the game or force it to be released. This is the case most times when games come out with bugs, but the persuasion from the communtity is still there. Most people will buy games with or without bugs. I will buy SWTOR on launch day and yes I expect bugs, I however will not let those bugs ruin my fun of this game.

Look at some of the best games in gaming history and do your research you will find not a single one of them was perfect at launch and most of them still have a large amount of bugs.

Chances are there might be some issues here and there considering it is a mmorpg launch and no mmorpg launch ever has been completely flawless I guess (maybe Lotro comes close, and Rift was very polished as far as I heard). But there's a million of things that can go wrong. I do think in Swtor's case they will mostly be temporary issues though.

It would surprise me if it would be completely flawless but it would also surprise me if there would be any severe unstability / performance issues or a large amount of bugs.

There will be issues and bugs, hopefully not game-breaking.

Nothing is ever perfect. Neither will be the launch. There will be some issues. But i will still be there with a big smile on my face looking for a sith to smack around!

Excatly. Even in offline games bug creep up. And this game is immense. So as long as its playable it'll be all good. I do expect that there will be a lot of bugs and who knows some might break the game and others might be small, again going back to the game's immense size.

Oh I agree, I usually wait myself and I don't even mind issues all that much. This time I can't though, not because of the game, but because the community that comes along with it : ).

Yes I think there will be issues at Launch, there always are. Its how they deal with those issues that counts. That they quickly react to any problems is what we need to hope for :)

I never really thought of the game having bugs. but i'm sure it will.  How major they are is the question.

I do expect there to be little or no crashes or majorly broken quests (ala personal quests or flashpoints).

Types of bugs i expect are minor graphical anomalies, a mispelled word in the codex here and there things like that.

There will always be bugs in games some that simply can't be removed because doing so would cause an even bigger problem or so much work around to fix it that it would cost more money to fix it then it would in sales to just leave it there. It's all a balancing act.

Do i expect the old republic bug free? heck no. Do i expect the servers to be full at launch, most certainly. I've played a lot of MMOs on launch day and they almost always manage to under predict how well their product will do.

Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.

Is ToR going to be good? Dude it's Bioware making a freaking star wars game, all signs point to awesome. -G4tv MMo report.

It's pretty normal to an experienced gamer to anticipate launch problems; let's face it, they've happened on every MMO.  I don't expect these problems to be so bad that they damage the reputation of the game though.  It's trivial stuff if you look at games over time.  What's one week of ironing out issues at launch in relation to years of stable service?  Most people won't even remember it a month after it's live as long as Bioware is able to nail the problems away quickly.

In my opinion this will be the game that could have been.  The story and presentation will be fine, it'll have the mainstay game mechanics, but it will look oldish like the quality of the wow era and not the new stuff.  I base this on the videos ive seen and the most recent pvp vids.  Those are horendous in that the way the people run around looks fake as hell =/   I hope Im wrong.

  • Dorko2kDorko2k Member Posts: 107

of course it'll have issues at launch, its an mmo. there's going to be a bazillion people all trying to play it on launch day so expect long que's, certain system configs not gelling with the game, slow speeds, too many or too few servers & I'm sure a whole slew of other problems. It's an mmo on launch, problems are inevitable.

Issues as in shaking with excitement, ready to play the game, having just finished installed it. Clicking the "Start Game" button on the launcher and watching the screen grow black. Watching the cutscene, trembling in anticipation. Making a character, squealing with delight at how good the graphics look, then choosing a unique name. Choosing your class. And then finally clicking the enter game button! Tears fall down your face and splash the table underneath you. You watch a beautiful cutscene, which shows you the beauty of this new, innovative title! The cutscene ends, and you see your character in action for the first time. You break down in tears, knowing that, for once, an MMO will do it right. You're greated with a boss battle and you fire your blaster for the first time! Hey! Combat's no different from anything I've played before.

    Pause.

Your fist flies through your monitor, sparks are sent flying. Your desktop smashes against the drywall, sending a spiderweb like crack across the wall. Dust and paint fly off the wall, ruining your new keyboard, specifically purchased for SWToR. Moments later the keyboard lies on the street, ten stories below your appartment. A body lies next to it.

We will melt the servers. It is our duty.

Other than than that, no. Not expecting problems.

Personally expecting this game to be quite bad. It seems so clunky.

I suspect people will hop in and start playing and get incredibly bored from the excessive amounts of lightsabers (apparently a rare and hard to craft item) being found regularily. Also the animations... gurk. Something about highly trained military personelle standing still while a guy with a light saber walks up to them just rips me from my immersion. They really need to work on AI in these new games. Graphics are good we jumped a lot with them, but we're honestly still seeing Doom (the original) quality ai. "Stand and shoot till they die or we die!" Sure we've added "duck behind some cover occasionally" but it's still clunky.

From every thing I've seen/heard so far I think it'll be a pretty good game.  I would hope they add the ability to chose your companions rather than every one is stuck with the same ones named the same thing based on what class you are.  The being a sith and forced to have a light side companion that gets pissed ever time you kill someone sounds odd to me. Other than that pretty pumped. I think this will be the best game we get for a long while. I'll most deff be getting this game when comes outimage but If I where king of the world this game would have been closer to what swg stopped being after cu though.

If you ever need anything please don't hesitate to ask someone else first. I'm too busy acting like I'm not naive I've seen it all, I was here first. -Very Ape- Nirvana
