I say who gives a painted cow turd if it's a WoW clone. I have been playing for about 2 weeks and think that it is amazing. Playing this game on the iPad has pretty much stopped me from playing my PC at all. It's not as in depth, but then again, I don't have a ton of time to play anyway. It's 99 cents per month to subscribe, although the first 3 months are free.

I for one think it's a hell of an advancement over any other fantasy game I've played on the iPhone/iPad and I applaud Gameloft for putting something out that is fun to play. For fucks sake, I never understood all the WoW Clone horseshit. If it's fun, fucking play it. If it's not, dont. For me, this is fun.

But none is as full featured as O&C. Pocket Legend is the animal one .. they only have 3 char, no races, and the combat mechanics is too simple.

At least there is now a good WOW clone on the iOS. I found the combat mechanics (and talent tree) in O&C deep enough to have some fun.

I played a mage up to L20 and i like it so far. Hands down the best 3D RPG on the iOS. It is probably as full feature as you will ever get.

its just a minigame for mobile phones..  not really sure what all the hype is even about this. kind of surprised they didnt choose to launch it as an andriod app, given that there are more android devices than iphones.. even so.. kind of pointless anyway..  mobile phone games kind of got old with snake etc...

Doesn't look like WoW at all...not even close. Not even the Night Elves, I mean elves, look anything close to WoW.

If a video has not done it before, a table top game has.

So please be a little respecful to companies that try to make games fun, especially when they have been around for as long as Gameloft.

... did they remove your sense of humor while you were working there? :<

... I didn't say they made BAD games, nor did I ever say that being a WoW clone was a reason why you shouldn't play Order & Chaos.  I also didn't say they didn't have good people working there, or that they don't have artists.  (I mean, you need artists to replicate the style of other games, obviously.  In fact, you need a pretty decent art team for that)  I have a friend who is Chinese, but he is at least willing to admit that China specializes in shameless copying of things.  Don't downplay Gameloft's ability to copy!  Revel in it!  Own it!  Be like 'Yeah, we do the best copies in the business!  Nobody else can give the feeling of (insert game name here) on a mobile system!"

... is it really disrespectful to be honest that a company is a little prone towards doing 'homages'?  That's their gaming niche nowadays, and they're really good at it.

Also, I'm not sure why people keep taking 'It's a WoW clone' as me telling them they shouldn't play the game.  It's a mobile game experience, and thats its main value as an MMO.  If you want to do mobile MMOing, it's probably your best choice.

Gameloft is the king of imitation, not bit of original game design comes from them. However, if you can make a good mimic and do it in an interesting way (mobile platform), by all means do it and claim that part of the market.

Wow... such ignorance. Have you played the game? Funny how you know it's a "minigame". Doesn't sound like you've tryed it at all.

All the hype is due to the fantastic job they did incorporating an mmo interface into a smaller device. Besides, I play on iPad not a mobile phone.

The thing that some ppl don't seem to understand it seems, in the review it's said the chars were "extremely Warcraft influenced" has in Warcraft: Humans vs Orcs, not necesserily WoW. Maybe some of you don't know the game but yes Warcraft did not begin in WoW it began has an RTS, whose races in the last version were Horde( most of the units were orcs), Undead, Aliance(humans & high elves) and the Night Elves.

So don't assume that just because on a review someone mentions that  a game is Warcraft influenced they are caling it a  WoW clone. That's just being narrow minded.

Also aside from that undead, elves and so many races that now appear has standard in most MMO's that didn't start on the Warcraft lore, it started from Tolkien stories (and before you ask: yes LoTR didn't start in the movies, the books from LoTR have been in bookstores for more time then some of you probably been born ) and other myths and tales. DnD pen&paper RP games were where most of these races became largely known.

So if some company decides to "clone" a game, don't whine about it, that's because they think most of the traits of that game are really good and if hopefully because of that some day one of those companies does ends up with a game better then WoW, that'll only be good for us players.

     you are so right!

I love all the people who started their MMO history with WoW and saying,'WoW was the first MMORPG and all the other MMOs are WoW clones!'.

Hell even Star Wars: The Old Republic and Guild Wars 2 will be WoW clones for many idiots just because both are MMORPGs...

by the way, I still have WarCraft: Orcs and Humans installed on my PC. :-)

    Yeah but look at it!

It's SO blatantly copied that it's completely unacceptable. If they're going to steal tried-and-true game mechanics that's one thing, but stealing character designs is BEYOND lazy. It's just plain disrespectful.

Seriously, I am one of those that always got tired of people screaming WoW clone all the time.

But on this one I have to say that I actually agree!  This is so blatantly obvious.... it's not even funny anymore.

Not just this picture.... but just look at all the armor sets! They look "exactly" the same as WoW's armor sets.

I am getting the feeling, seeing the ridiculous production rate of games from Gameloft, that they just paid Blizzard or something for art assets and so be able to push out yet another crappy mobile game in record time.

Gameloft is slowly becoming the Cryptic Studios of the mobile platform. That's for sure.

They might have a couple decent games, but the rest is just bugridden crap to empty your wallet via iTunes.

On technical level Blizzard has copied pretty much everything from previous MMO's, like EQ. Sure.

But you have to admit that WoW has a very "distinctive" and "unique" artstyle. Something you really cannot simply ignore.

And the resemblance between WoW and Gameloft's Order and Chaos Online is just striking!

Can someone explain to me why you would want to play a MMO on an inferior platform like a mobile phone?

You remember when MMO's were only on PC's? Do you remember what happened when they had to be made to support conosols as well? So now we have a new format, but don't worry no new MMO is going to have to take into account a mobile phone format. Wake up, yes it will.

Graphics and controls (along with much more) suffered when consoles were brought in, now we are going to have to prostitute the MMO genre to a bloody phone.

There's a few reasons why: First being it can be done by developers and the number of portable devices eg iOS alone is >190m globally in addition to Android ( >100m globally td). Current mobile standards edge, 3G are playable and 4G is on it's way, as well as Wi-Fi. It think you are looking at it from the MMO -> portable whereas it's really a case of the portable -> MMO. Currently anyone who can make one of these things is in an emerging market vs a saturated PC market. It's potential to be a gold rush. The other thing is the demographics of these portable things eg iTouch are used by kids a lot and so plenty of these MMOs will include a younger generation where this sort of social gaming is appealing to them (twittering/facebooking and now mmo'ing).

Apart from that the portability and cheapness and the design of some of these mmobiles to be played in short bursts during the day wherever you are (bus, queue, bed etc) and as a gaming platform in addition to a PC MMO all are conducive to accessible mmo gameplay. You could say take a dungeon crawler such as already exist as apps (Chaos Rings etc) and add the mmo or co-op part to it. In the case of O&C it's really taking another step and aping PC MMOs altogether eg wow.

Taking another example Pocket Legends: It reminds me of Gauntlet more than anything else and sits next to Speedball 2 on my iPhone. It's very cheap, very accessible and for a spare few minutes can be fun, just like Gauntlet was on the old Amiga system. That's all a game really needs to achieve. The fact it has a social side to boosts it's longevity with updates paced out over months is very satisfactory.

To sum I don't think it's productive to ask why mmos cannot be exclusive to PC, but that PC MMOs have to increase their quality in line with their expense and hardware. Pocket Legends is possibly more fun/arguably better than plenty of PC MMOs be they F2P or even P2P; client or web-browser.... with a few advantages that they are perhaps cheaper/portable and in the case of PL designed around quick sessions of gameplay and substantial developer support. Even if you only play the game a few times of 15mins a month it's value for money. That low threshold for consumer satisfaction adds up and it will be interesting to see what sorts of innovation developers can come up with given the constraints of portable devices such as screen size/touch controls etc.

To end: I'm very excited by the prospect of B* and how this can really brings some innovation to mmobiles that make the mmo fit the platform rather than the platform fit the mmo. : )

@KJ: Give Gameloft their dues: They have some very talented artists working for the company even if they do produce copies (a bit like Chinese painters copying the European masters and selling them back to Europe for a cheaper rate?!) They do produce A LOT of solid apps also imo albeit support is often lacking after release.

    edit: Android device numbers

I can't believe there are people out there trying to claim this isn't a WoW clone, or that all the WoW clone cries the past years haven't been justified.

Rift is a WOW clone. LotRO is a WoW clone. AoC is a WoW clone. Aion was mostly a WoW clone. Rift is the worst offender, by having the same graphics and UI as well as gameplay. But I mean, come on, how can you deny a WoW clone when it goes out of its way, changing features around in alpha and beta, to better mimick WoW?
