Alot of people compare this to Dragon Age and Mass Effect because of how choices are done but tell me how many actually played those games more than twice before moving onto another game ? Besides it being in the Star Wars universe, I don't know what is so exciting about it ? As a kid I grew up loving Star Wars to pieces but somehow the way Bioware is making it doesn't get gamer inside me pumped up for this as much as I want to be. We'll see how it goes.

I understand your point, but think about this. Why do people play through them twice? Is it not because they want to catch things they missed before and see other angles? Especially when you take KOTOR into account. As it had two sides to play from. Now consider this game will have 8 different Stories to play through four to each side, each having multiple branching paths.
If the typical player plays through a normal Bioware game twice, which can take hundreds of hours depending on a players pacing. How long would it take to do so in TOR, also considering there are other stories to see outside of these main quests. Each indvidual class story is estimated to clock in at over 100 hours.
Play through all once that's 800 hours of gameplay, twice 1600. That's a crap ton of content, and that's just launch content. Now consider there are other things to do, like crafting, grouping/guilding and pvping.
Now consider they do add a steady flow of new story content. The amount of content available at launch , is bound to keep those enjoying themselves busy for quite a while, which buys them an ample amount of time to add new things to the mix.

I know I read some where recently, maybe MMORPG, that the average time it would take to max lvl is 200hours. Now I do not know if that means your story will be over or if it will still be in progress. So 1600 before even rerolling for a second run is possible.

I belive the devs and such have stated more like up wards of 300ish hours for each class :P. but im not really trying to correct you, more so agree that there will be a shit ton to do when TOR launches and enough to give them time for content updates..imo. Hell Ive put 247 hours on rift (with one class) since a week after launch playing semi casual.

Yeah that's Bioware's official word on their estimated playthrough time. I was attempting to down-play that to calculate in the typical MMO gamer and their rush to endgame.

He said she said Bullshtuff is what I say. They have issues with what you write about? So?
What it sounds to me is these artists who are called developers can't take any criticism what so ever when dealing with opinions toward their product.
You actually care how they think of your reviews of their products? Are they paying you? Does their overall taste or view of you effect your job? Well I guess when it comes to ads it does huh. Oh well. Glad I don't have that pressure.
I'm not really picking I just think it's kind of funny that you actually keep up with that bunch of crap. Take a breather stop going to those sites. It's just an idea.
Stick to your true nature. Your unbiased for the most part. More so than most, but I understand that's why your sensitive to warped views about what you write. Like making calls at a big game. You want to be true, but the fans of their own teams whine about stuff instead of treating it as a game.
It's ok. People are people and it always hits close to home when they judge something you enjoy doing.
On TOR: I think the game could be interesting and Bioware so far has done pretty good with their games. Until it comes out though I don't judge cause I am not buying into it before I see a trial and actually see myself enjoying it past the first 30 minutes.
On Rift: I tried it, and I'm sure it appeals to many of the demographic they were aiming for. Myself I didn't favor it.

Dumping a bunch of money into an IP and voices doesn't necessarily make for a good MMO. I am watching but like others, very skeptical.

there's a lot more information needed to proclaim myself "cautiously optimistic". and no, it being Star Wars made by BW and having voice over quests isnt enough. IF TOR turns out to be just another gear grinder at end game, i simply wont buy it. you guys should really do a thoughtful piece on how in the end, everything comes down to the end game.
in GW2, for example, the end game starts at level one. it's really a revolutionary thing. we have yet to see how BW will handle TOR's end game. so far, the game seems like just another grinder.
Alot of people compare this to Dragon Age and Mass Effect because of how choices are done but tell me how many actually played those games more than twice before moving onto another game ?
i played through ME2 seven times on insane difficulty to experience the entire game, and it was a blast. ive said it before and i'll say it again: BW should stick to what it does extremely well. if anything, they should have attempted an ME MMO. like yourself, i am not pumped about TOR in any way whatsoever, despite loving the Star Wars universe. everything about it is just a re-skinned WoW...i am sorry if this offends people, and it's been said before...but it really is the case imo. i waited for the pvp reveal and i walked away feeling completely meh. even though i expected to feel meh about it, i secretly hoped they'd reveal something cool.
right now i wish BW would throw gamers like me at least one little bone to chew on. i love SW so much that i dont need a lot of reasons to pick up TOR...but there's absolutely nothing about it that excites me.
I know I'm going to play it already. I don't know if I'll stick with it very long though. I have to say that RIFTS Invasion/scenarios are really fun and the game seems to cater a LOT to RP'ers.
Star Wars is usually an RP'er dream world mixing both swords and guns in a way with traditions and faith + add in a sparkle of spaceships and planet exploding! Just, super fun but will the game be RP firendly? If it is, I will stick. If it's not, probably wont.

While I'm interested myself in GW2, the whole 'endgame starts at level one' is just fanboi talk.
Dynamic Events is just an alternate form of questing. Endgame content is what you do at level cap, not level one, and basically what you're saying is that you can't do raids at level cap since GW2 doesn't have any, but that you'll be doing Dynamic Events instead. If you dislike raid content, then that's fine, however raid content is what has been keeping MMO gamers in general entertained since EQ, so a lot of other MMO gamers don't share your dislike for raids.
As for how reviewers should do a review about the endgame content, I agree, but that'd mean they can only do a review after they've reached level cap, so they'll have to have played 150-250 hours before they can give a review. That's an unrealistic request of any reviewer to make.
Best option in my opinion is do an initial review that highlights the journey, how the gameplay is while leveling in all its variety, and then after a couple of months when people have reached level cap and been busy at that stage for a while, do a follow up review that focuses on the endgame gameplay.

Heh, interesting, hadn't expected any of that. I mean, there's hardly any town in Rift to chill out in, nor guildcities or taverns and such.

If you despise themepark MMO gameplay, then I really don't see anything for you or people like you in SWTOR, since it'll be a themepark oriented MMO with a lot of features we've seen in other themepark MMO's.
BW does bring its strengths into the mix though, the questing has been heavily revamped into the story immersive kind that we know of their other games, anyone who has played BW games will be instantly familiar with how questing fares in SWTOR.
The ease with which predictions are made on these forums: Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."
I'm concerned as well mostly bout 2 things on this game :
1) The gameplay's too much like classical MMORPGS, while it works for RIFT, i find it a little unsettling for TOR to have the exact same stuff than fantasy rpgs (tank, healer, dps) along with "tab" "1,2,3,4" and voila. They could've done something innovating in terms of gameplay. A jedi ain't a cleric ffs. And a BH sure ain't a tank !!! Guy'll do everything he can to shoot first and not get shot.
2) I fear a lil mess up in terms of game lore and all. We're talking bout SITH wars here, right ? Then why do we have galaxy empire references everywhere, along with the 8 branches logo ? Game's might happen during the hyperspace war when sith invaded the old republic, back then their symbol was a 4 points sun. And if we talk about the Jedi civil wars (which is more likely since in the first video i've seen the dude really looks like Revan) then the symbol is blue with (hell it's impossible to describe) a H shaped thingie in a circle, all in lighter blue.
Why mixing SITH lore with Palpatine's galaxy empire which happens like aeons later ? Also why calling all SITH faction forces "empire" dudes ? There ain't no Darth Vader nor any Darth Sidious in SITH times, even if they're cool, even if stormtroopers are great, there's none of it. No Imperial Star Destroyer either (i don't even think acclamator class existed in sith wars time, hell ships sucked back then), no death star...
So, i'm quite hoping TOR will be TEH game, but i'm worried on a few points.
You're a Hardcore Survivor!
You not only survived the zombie apocalypse, but did it with style! Your mastery of zombie knowledge, survival tactics, and weaponry is nearly unmatched. Congratulations, for you are hardcore!
I have kept this thought in mind since the game was annouced, "have no expectations and you may be pleasantly surprised". To get so worked up about it and to start thinking in your mind "it better have this" or "that" is setting yourself up so you will never enjoy the game.
Bill, it almost seems that you're feeling forced into apologising for not booming out the same enthusiasm for TOR as the Bioware staff who are well paid to say the game is amazing whether they think so or not. It's not the job of MMORPG to disseminate the party line about any game. It's an MMORPG journalism website (and a damn good one in my opinion). As such, I hope its job is to give a balanced commentary on the state of games in the market, to 'call a spade a spade' when they're not as good as claimed and not to be concerned with what the hardcore Star Wars fans think about what you think about a game which hasn't come out yet. Keep up the good work and don't let it bother you.
You know , the most memorable games always had great story , great atmosphere , who will ever forget Planescape Torment ? Who was not impressed with the 1st 20 lvls of Age of Conan ? . If this is done right we are looking at a classic , immersion and atmosphere are at the top of my list , of course time will tell

I'm not sure I agree with that, for longevity you're right, but at the same time, this seems to be a game that focuses on the journey. Maybe even more so than past MMO's have.
Considering they only need around 350,000 subs to make a profit, with a financial goal of around 500,000. I don't think longevity is of much concern (financially) as long as what's on offer is decent or even just okay.
There's going to be gear grinding at endgame, there's no question about that (PVP gear says as much). Whether or not the game will be centered around it is another subject entirely, and without a glimpse of what they plan to offer,it's hard to say. They say it's something new, which could be marketing or who knows maybe it will be, until it's revealed to us what it is, who's to say what endgame will be?

With all the financial backing behind SWTOR (EA/LA/BioWare), we have absolutely no innovation via PvP.
I mean, really... Battlegrounds (Warzones)? It's a joke and I cannot believe the community endorses such a lack-luster form of PvP. There is absolutely no depth to their system. It's a mere side mini-game with massive gear incentive; thus, forcing me to play it.
Good. Im glad. Id be just as pleased if PvP was restricted to just duels.
Like all of the "good" PvP players, its the people who have the most time to waste and play the game for unhealth amounts of time.
Gimmie a great invoving story arc i can play side by side with other people who enjoy the universe and im thrilled.
If people wanna shoot each other and talk trash they can go play blackops. thank you.
It's really not the staff. But you can't deny that several forum members have a ... particular ... attitude toward this game.
Of course not just toward TOR, they usually go around to other "popular" titles as well, but seeing the history of the Star Wars franchise with a certain other game, yeah, I'd say it was worse than normally.
Feel free to use my referral link for SW:TOR if you want to test out the game. You'll get some special unlocks!

The ACTUAL size of MMORPG worlds: a comparison list between MMO's
The ease with which predictions are made on these forums:
Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."
Good article.

Good.
