I have very low tolerance for companies that can't control their spam lists, WB would never get me as a customer after going through this.
As for having to call them to get it turned off, not a hugely big deal. However I don't feel thats good business to make the customer call to do it, there should be something setup online. They can take the time to spam me, they can take the time to make a billing interface on their site.

If dealing with them is to hard to cancel, here is what you should do:

Call Visa because your credit card is a Visa and you are a genious and use Visa.  Tell them that you are been shafted by a company that abuse you and keep charging and that you entrust them to deal with that or that you will be moving with Mastercard.  Told Visa you like them and really appreciate all their hardwork.

I can tell you that whatever company will have to deal with Visa after that will have you on their:  ''Do not charge'' list(banned, angry and pissed list, dinner talk as well, but since you dont want to deal with them and they keep charging you, you should not care and show them the nasty end of the stick for charging you more then the initial deal or preventing you from cancelling).  This is a promise.  Visa can cower any gaming company, even Sony would think twice before messing with angry Visa.

If you have another credit card then Visa, you should just cancel it and get a Visa(Sony is a nice company, I just take them as an exemple because they would never behave wrongly, they may lie, but they dont do that type of shitty behavior, and do not doubt, Visa can scare any company, including Microsoft).

PS: To win in court should a company try to face Visa, they need to prove, without any doubt, that you ''buy'' the product or use it(the period been charged).  Since proving this is something they cant do, since they need to prove that you where playing the game home, yourself, and not some ''crazy internet pirate stealing info'', Visa win right away...and Visa lawyers = compensation that would make even Microsoft quite sick.  Virtual property is pretty hard to prove when it come to selling...and I doubt that MxO have spies recording your RL actions, so it is pointless for them to argue, they cant prove anything in anyform.

PPS:  You dont want to ''abuse'' Visa good demeanor either, you certainly dont want to be on their : ''Dont care'' list, and yes they will consider and talk with folks around...if you keep having ''bad companies'', they will eventually consider that maybe the problem is you, and not the companies...

PPPS: All companies prefer Visa over any competitor(smaller fees for them when you pay with Visa).

PPPPS: If you own an American Express or Diners or some lame small credit card companies with awfull fees but ''plans'' for customer let me say this:  ROFL!  Honk honk!  Gah, change right now, go with Mastercard if you must, but damn it, they charge at least TWICE what the Visa charge!

they have toll free numbers in several countries. How hard can it be? I cancelled with no problem at all.

Some of the numbers abroad way understaffed - I assume as many say they never get an answer or are placed on hold - and these calls are not toll free. The numbers are not available 24/7 as in NA they are open during business hours - when most people work.

    From the site

Both US and Canadian Billing Support are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. European Billing Support is available Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM UK local time.

What killed this game for me was the fact that I had to call them to get my account cancelled. I'm sorry, but the vibe that my credit card was being held hostage until I had to sit on the phone and explain why I didn't want to pay for their game. It costs next to nothing for an online credit card service that allows cancellations, and is far cheaper, overall, then having someone sit at a desk answering the phone.

If I had the ability to rank this game, I'd leave everything aroung a 6 - 7 and zero out customer service.

If ya been reading the official boards you'll see why it is so hard - it doesn;t always work.

This reminds me of when I had to call in to cancel my xbox live account. What a pain it was. I honestly believe these companies make you call in in the hope that many people will delay doing so due to laziness. In my case, this proved true as I hesitated calling for months, just kept putting it off. When I did call, I was on the phone for 15 minutes with this guy interrogating me about everything in and out of the game. And it didn't help that I live in Japan and had to go though this rigamaroll having to rely on my crappy Japanese. I will never play another MMORPG without first ensuring I can quickly click my way out if I don't like it...

The difficulty of canceling this game... which took 3 separate calls (that all said they ahd done it)... was insult upon injury, after having to endure such a poor game. I guess they made the best of a tough hand-off... but what a wasted opportunity.

Did anyone here play Necromancer (mid-80s, Apple 2gs?)... I was hoping for a great sequel-like experience with the storyline we already love on top... oh well.

  • I cancelled a couple weeks ago using the number posted in their knowledge base on the main website. Took 5 minutes. You can tell they really don't want you to quit though since the rep said he would keep the account open until my subscription ran out in 3 weeks (implying that otherwise it would end asap and I could give him a quick call at that time to cancel). When I said I wanted to go ahead and cancel right now he said ok but then admitted I could still play for 3 weeks even though he cancelled it. Odd but not really a problem. And it's the second mmog I have had to call and cancel on. Just can't remember if it was E&B or Horizons that I had to call on the other time.

we know already, and its not a big deal.

No big deal to you maybe. I won't even try a game that forces you to jump through hoops to cancel. If you can subscribe via an online form then there's no reason whatsoever you shouldn't be able to cancel the same way other than a shady attempt to dissuade the casually disgruntled from leaving or to create a bottleneck for mass cancellations.

Maybe this SOE buyout will bring industry standard subscription management to MXO.

  • DarktongueDarktongue Member Posts: 276

Oh how i laughed at this lol.

MxO will go same way as horizons or even Wish . Either no where or the recycle bin.

Didnt even finish my free month for it ,truely a terrible clunky pos.

Heres hopin SOE have bought the chain and ball to finally sink themselves with.

well, I've had similiar problems with another MMORPG in what concerns canceling it.. if they try to make you a hard time to cancel your account, simply phone your bank, the one that finances your VISA/MASTERCARD card.. and ask them to cancel further payments to your account.. this, if you are planing to never more set foot into MxO. Since prolly you'll get your account blocked next..

Another detail.. what they are doing is considered illegal, they cant simply sell a game that basicly gives a 30days tryout and then dont give anyway to cancel it (other then a stupid international phonecall.. like DUH), if you are not satisfied with it after the 30 days.

This is more then enough reasons to sue them i think :P also.. SPAM is simple.. phone your ISP company and make a charge against them.. that might put them in place..

a pity.. a MMORPG that tries making you feel you are part of a sci-fi movie, seeming so low on what touches nowadays technology O.o ...

Its like some apes are hosting you the game directly from servers based somewhere from a zoo recint.. pity pity

Lain, dont be an idiot. Theres three numbers to call. one for US one for canada and one for europe. lolololol you tryed so hard too. It isnt a scam, your just an idiot.

I didnt even have to cancel because my account runs out today and I dont plan on re subscribing.

  • herculeshercules Member UncommonPosts: 4,925

Well i think its annoying if u can't cancel a game pain free.

My experience with bad cancellation has been UO in 2001 and AC2 in 2003.

Both games denied me access to gameplay after cancelling despite having over  3 weeks of gameplay paid and with no warning.

I think such practises as not letting you cancel online and not letting you complete your game time is only going to lose such company buisness in the end.

Despite been so addicted to UO that little stunt they pulled made me NEVER return.Otherwise ,i would have probably come back some day to check on it.

Well good news is SoE is taking it over and SoE billing is simple to use and without any stress.

  • It took 5 minutes to call them and cancel (although the rep tried pretty hard to talk me out of it).

I just Emailed them to cancel my account Ill admit i like the matrix online and the combat is incredible but i didnt like the fact that the events sucked all the bad guys stood around did nothing and you have to level to be better?

Anyway i just emailed them and they refunded my month payment

  • cubehousecubehouse Member Posts: 1

I emailed them through the support centre asking them to cancel my account, they let me have the rest of my month's payment in-game and got a friendly reply back:

    ---------------

Thank you for contacting Customer Service. I'm sorry to hear that you would
like to cancel your subscription to The Matrix Online.

We have set your account to pending cancel. This means that you can still
play the game, but at the end of your current subscription period, your account
will become cancelled instead of renewing automatically. If you desire to
reactivate the account in the future, please use the activate link in the master
    account status page.

thats strange because I canceled my MxO account with one phone call and I didn't have any problems doing so. I am surprised that a large number of you guys canceled your accounts. I thought I was one of the few...

What happens if you dont call and justy stop paying for it?
  • QwirkQwirk Member Posts: 136

    First and foremost:
Cancelling MxO is easy. Anyone saying otherwise in an extreme minority. This isn't meant to belittle their experiences, but merely to point out that for every one player who has had a painful cancellation there are probably 99 or more who had the standard painless cancellation.
If it was hard on you (whoever you may be) I'm sorry, but that doesn't mean it's hard on everyone.

Secondly, The forum, support, and FAQ pages are littered with the instructions for cancelling, and here they are again: Call. If you cannot call or that doesn't work -- submit a support petition explaining Why calling wasn't a viable option (otherwise they will tell you to call. The natural assumption is that you can call to cancel, and unless you tell them otherwise, that will remain true). They would like to know Why you are cancelling, and that is the main reason they want you to call to cancel -- that and any change to credit card billing needs to be authorized by the card-holder, which they verify through a couple questions about the account.

Thirdly, the question about stopping payment:
if you're signed up for any recurring charges to a credit card, the only way to stop that (without using the obvious, posted, standard, and painless channels) is to cancel the card, which is more trouble than it's worth.
A gamecard? Just don't enter a new one.
And if you choose either of these methods, you just won't have access to the game.

But really folks, it's less than a five minute phone call, or 48hr turn-around on a petition . At least try the standard methods first. There are extreme, highly unususal cases where they don't work, and finding out when those cases are is critical to making sure no one else gets caught by them.

when I cancelled via phone they told me I was going to be billed for the next months subscription at 12am the next day (it was about 10:30pm at the time).  After freaking out on how ridiculous that was I went online and changed all of my billing info to CANCELLED BASTAGES! and my CC numbers as 0000000000000000, all of the information I just listed as CANCELLED instead of numbers, addresses etc.  They didn't get another dime from me.  Try that, IDK how they're gunna bill you without the correct information.
  • QwirkQwirk Member Posts: 136

I'm sorry. Perhaps I misunderstood something in your post.

You gave them an hour and a half warning that you wanted to cancel, and you're surprised they told you you'd probably be charged for the next months worth?

You do realize that any recurring billing process is set in motion ... sometimes weeks before the actual billing date?

In the case of MxO, they tell you flat-out

All fees are pre-paid and non-refundable and may be charged up to five (5) days in advance of the first day of the subscription period for which the fees relate
    https://members.warnerbros.com/registration/us/fee.html

While this isn't the only place this warning is offered, it is the easiest that came to hand while writing this reply.

    I think perhaps your

    freaking out
threshold may be a bit unreasonable. Any transaction needs time to process, and one and a half hours is an extremely unlikey timeframe for any recurring billing process to be changed.

I was giving advice, why dont you stop being a snert and stop kissing Monolith's hind end for half of a second and think clearly.  No other game charges you AHEAD of time for monthly billing.  They just dont (perhaps because the games I play are mostly sony).

People play games down to the HOUR their account is going to end and cancel; quite frequently actually.  The recurring billing is electronically done, it's very likely a computer process starts at 11:59:59 and attempts to charge your card.  I enjoyed MxO and in no way did I flame the game, quit being a fanboy and open your eyes.

  • kagarakagara Member Posts: 6

lol they've already dropped down to 3 servers, from 6 because no one could find anyone to group with... how lame is that...

This game is dieing, and it's taking the Wachowski Brothers with it. After Enter the Matrix, and now this game... no one will ever buy another matrix game ever.
