What is weird you ask? Well let me spin you a very short piece of yarn
*spins some yarn then throws it over his shoulder*
Okay now thats done let me get to the details
When i first heard of the problems i went to my bank and did all the stuff your suppose to do. Some time passed and then this came up that their servers were coming back up and things are starting to return to normality. I then decided since i had some free game time to take em up on that offer...changed my password, downloaded vanguard for the heck of it as i didn't really give that game the time of day before.
Loaded up the game and played for a while. Made a goblin selected hometown started questing got to level 5. Beyond mobs and NPCs i never saw anyone though...Am i only the only one that was able to connect to that game? Did i find something weird or is it too soon to start wondering? Usually i see at least one other person after an hour or so...Saw noone. Wonder if i managed to slip past all the obsticles or is there another reason or am i did i manage to connect in such a way that i can do quests and the game works normally but i'm not actually connected in such a way that i can actually see another player, or is it simply just not that populated? Really curious here.
Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.
Is ToR going to be good? Dude it's Bioware making a freaking star wars game, all signs point to awesome. -G4tv MMo report.
The funny thing UKforze, i'm not unfamiler with SoE. Hence why i had to go to the bank and do all that stuff.
I actually played EQ, EQ2, SWG, Matrix online pirates of the burning sea. In all of them i'd see the occasional player, maybe not huge but i'd at least see one. It's kinda odd i'm not seeing any here. Wasn't sure if this is a problem.
Maybe perhaps the pop is that bad i don't know. Will see tomorrow i guess when it isn't the dead of night where i am.

Well when and if the servers ever work again. I'd be happy to level with you. I'll be starting a brand new character as I never gave the game a try either. But if it's the middle of the night for you now, not sure we'll be on at the same time.
To find an intelligent person in a PUG is not that rare, but to find a PUG made up of "all" intelligent people is one of the rarest phenomenons in the known universe.
SOE may be a lost cause but I still enjoy their games...but for the record some of you need to realize SOE has never shut down their own mmo so every one of their mmo's you have "game security" instead of "job security"....if you dont get it you should be slapped...Also before anybody brings up The Matrix Online I ask you to remember it wasnt originally an SOE game
Just logged in and... damn... 45 days of EQ, EQ2, VG, SWG and Planetside even though I haven't subscribed to anything SOE related for almost 2 years. Okay, that's not a bad deal from my point of view since I was basically expecting nothing and could use a little distraction on the MMO front.
I'm a big ol' fluffy carewolf. Be afraid. Be very afraid.
Wow, an actual article on the Sony hacks. I'm used to seeing mostly apologist articles for soe on this site re. this topic. Considering the size, scope and that its been covered extensively even in main stream non-gaming news, its surprising how little real coverage this issue has received here.

Are you kidding me? Did you bother to check mmorpg in the past 2 weeks? There were at least 3 long news threads about this whole Sony ordeal. Just because people stopped posting in them and other news threads bumped them into page 2 or 3, doesn't mean it wasn't covered on mmorpg.com.

Notice how I didn't say there have been no articles on the subject. However, most of whats been done here has amounted to not much more than "Poor, poor soe/Sony. Look how hard done by they are. The mean hackers have caused them so many problems, problems that are in now way soe/Sony's fault. Btw, here's an article to remind you of all the awesome stuff soe has done, another article to make you think its about account security (personal, player responsibility) and distract you from the fact that its really about network security (corporate, meaning Sony/soe's, responsibility), another article about how this is all just "A tough break for soe" and making excuses and apologizing for their security flaws, flaws that were well known inside the company and another article telling people about all the goodies to be had if people come back once the games are up and running again."
Like I said, no real coverage.

What I want to see out of Sony is a recognition of the complete failure of the SOE organization and complete reorganization of that branch with some major heads rolling. There are some really good people in that studio, but current management is just wasting them. The question is will Sony have the guts to fix it, otherwise maybe some major heads need to roll at Sony too.

I see people on when I have messed around with it in the past (made one toon to level 20ish I think..then forced grouping kicked in and I lost interest.)
Anyway, I think most people choose to go to the Starter Isle since it was made during a revamp and has a better guided newbie arc and rewards than just starting at the original starter towns which are more for the 'I know what I am doing and have other toons to finance this one' crowd. I could be wrong, but give the starter island a trial. Everytime I've started a new toon to mess with, I've always seen other people there. Not tons, but some.
Played: Asheron's Call(still the best fantasy MMO!), EQ1, EQ2, Vanguard, DAoC, Horizons, City of Heroes/Villians, WoW (crap), LOTORO, D&D Online, Eve, Anarchy Online, and still playing SWG daily.

I understand this statement. SOE was it's usual self and released NO info for days at a time so we were forced to go around and look for news on what was going on. No site was reporting on it as much as us waiting for it would have liked. I know most sites have to report what the company is giving them, but if you want to be real journalists and part of the fourth estate then you have from time to time go to the source and get answers for your readers, especially if there is a demand.
Gaming sites are NOT journalism though, without access to the companies on good terms they might as well close up shop. It's PR for the game companies and a chance for some writers to play games earlier than the rest of us. This has been discussed on this site (as well as some others) recently but it's still what it is. It's really the same thing the 'regular media' does , hands out the talking points in order to not be cut out of the loop (cause no one talks to assholes that inflame sitiuations **bonus points if you can tell me what movie I quoted there**) it's just way more transparent in this industry.

I got that same message. It appears SOE's account authorization system is down.
Edit: I've managed to log into my accont on the soe website, but still no games.
The account system seems to be working now.
This is kinda weird.

Still waiting here in Europe (Denmark) - Not up yet sadly.
Hope I've had enough practice in Mortal Kombat to at least wind a FEW times online!

Most of these noobs replying here probably use the same pass for their psn account as they did for their email accounts lol.

I figured I'd try to access my old account for shits n' giggles. I tried to recover the account a few different ways and got this:

LOL. bye bye Sony. You are dead to me like you have been for the past 4 years.
