So I was told this may be a 2012 release... -_-
Any evidence of this?

I hope not. I thought it was coming out at the end of the year? I have been waiting a long time for this game to come out  =(

There is nothing but speculation atm.  ANet released a statement at the end of last year I beleive dealing with release date and development and it was "We'll tell you when we're ready to" more or less to the agony of their fans.  So...hurry up and wait is all I can tell ya.

And if there was a release announcement, sure everyone and their cousin will know bout it.  I'd say hope for an announcement at the gaming convention this summer, somewhere around June or July..

Perhaps no "evidence", but I'd still say it's a good bet.

While they haven't said it, it seems likely based on info. Still missing character classes, still waiting for closed beta thats suppose to happen later this year.

Still possible for 2011, but i wouldn't be certain.  Plenty of chance for it to easily slip into 2012. I'd be surprised (and cautious alittle) if it didn't to be honest.

Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.

Is ToR going to be good? Dude it's Bioware making a freaking star wars game, all signs point to awesome. -G4tv MMo report.

Well supposively we'll be hearing one of the new professions by the end of the month and people are speculating by Gamescon or whatever that convention is this summer the last profession will be revealed.

To be honest, I expect a beta followed by release at the end of this year/start of next. I hope 2011 is the release date but be real, some dude on this forum said it is 2012 and he is by far and large the most credible source of all the internet.

I think they are going to anounce the beta at PAX PRIME in August. Depending on how the beta goes, I think, will largely determine weather it will be this year or next they release. I think this because they are innovating so much, that when it comes to large scale testing, there may or may not be a lot of things that need changing. If beta goes well, which I think it will, it's entirely possible we will see a 2011 release.

"We are definitely on target for a Closed  Beta this year. We’re going to do a closed Alpha and Beta test and we’re totally on target for those things. Whether there’s more than that? We’ll announce that stuff when we get closer. We’ve said we will have an open Beta at some point but we’re not going to know when we’re ready for that until we’re much closer to it. Things are looking good for closed Alpha and beta this year for sure"

This is what they have said, their target for this year is to make it to closed beta. Things in the MMO industry are never ahead of schedule so don't hold your breath for 2011.

While it is still being argued about , it looks grim for a 2011 release. the NCsoft q1 report didn't help with qoutes like this

"And as for the schedule, well definitely there will be a certain type of closed beta testing before the end of the year, so that means there will be more activities in 2012".

My personal oppinion is that Arenanet was taken totally by surprise by the huge impact their first info release had, and actual had planned for situation where they need longer time to generate expectations. Longer time than eager fans exspect. Or to put it in another way: They would have started later if they knew they where off to that good start!

I am aware that on Guildwars2guru a majority have argued for a 2011 release for a long time, but thats the hardcore fansite number 1, and when haven't the biggest fansites not been to optimistic about things like release dates?

IMHO looking at what speed info have been released during the last years, a speed up have been needed most of this year to make 2011 reasonable

We need to see alot yet.

If I were a betting man I'd go for 2012, but isn't that a good thing? Or even 2013?

I believe Anet always intented GW2 to come out in 2011 and I always believed they would make it but now (because of the NCsoft report) I'm starting to lose hope, not in GW2 or in Anet mind you, just in a release this year.

I'm afraid I'm inclined to agree with the 2012 assessment.

As far as I've been able to tell, ArenaNet has been bringing in testers and playing the game themselves since the very beginning.  That has led me to believe that alpha won't be all about fixing a billion bugs because they just rushed to that point.  I still believe that their beta will be all about stress testing, dynamic event scaling and solving problems that come up with introducing a large population.  I expect a comparatively short beta period.

When I first heard that they were still on track for a beta in 2011, my first thought was that it implies that release is 2012, but doesn't say anything.  But then when I realized that it was on track for closed beta in 2011, that really makes me question whether they can also fit in an open beta and release as well.

I suppose it just depends on how much they actually need to fix and work on during and after the betas.

  • xKingdomxxKingdomx Member UncommonPosts: 1,541

For them to have adequate testing, they practically have to start Alpha like.....today.

for start of 2012 is my best bet. Along with possible SWTOR as well

I'm leaning more to early 2012 after reading the latest interviews and the NCsoft q1 report....Didn't really want to believe it but seems very likely. Still hoping for some kind of announcement at gamescom.

I don't freaking care. I just want an awesome game, with as few bugs as possible. Anet can make it happen, but they need time.

It certainly could be 2012. One thing I learned from alpha and beta testing WoW though is that when that Christmas season comes along even really solid companies will push out games that aren't ready yet. There were so many items that our inside source told us were going to be tested before release that weren't released until months after WoW came out because the publisher pushed Blizzard to get WoW released before the holidays. I expect most game companies do the same thing.

I would really be surprised if ArenaNet does this, purely because it has always been the "when it's ready" stance.

When you combine all the facts and the rate of A-net releasing information then November 2011 is still a great bet...

There probably will only be a closed beta....  As there is no subscription fee.....  But how closed is close?   I'd bet for a September beta (with all the inhouse testing allready being done it doesn't have to last long, and a November release...

Which is why I mentioned WOW since Blizzard has exactly the same stance with their games.

The open beta is almost a complete non-factor in deciding when the game comes out.  They basically said they'd do the open beta as a week or two before the game... not really to test it, but more of a 'Free look at the game to tempt you to buy it!'

They're apparently doing all the serious work, including the server stress test stuff during closed beta.  That's the impression they've given anyway, that they've decided open beta is more of a preview than a serious beta testing thing.

I see, I'm not familiar with Blizzard and how they do things. I just see that ArenaNet has taken great lengths to say that they aren't releasing anything until it works how they want and they are happy with it. It's the same thing with any information they release. When they release information, they only release what they are happy with and what's working and what will be in the game. Minor changes may occur before release but for the most part, whatever part of the game that they show is done and will be implemented.

This is why I would doubt that they will push it out before its ready. They already said that they have great flexibility with their budget and time limit, so what's the point of rushing it? I would assume a better made game would sell better than a hastily made game that is pushed out before the holidays.

    Maybe i am wrong...

This was recently stated by NCsoft

And as for the schedule, well definitely there will be a certain type of closed beta testing before the end of the year, so that means there will be more activities in 2012, and as you know it has been our position not to announce any timing on any public events yet, and we will definitely take our position to announce the public schedules only when it's ready, because we believe that it's our mission to not disappoint the market. But it doesn't mean there is any issue in development schedule. It is on track and I think we'll be able to provide and share more information and also the updated game content in public spaces throughout the year.
