I think Roma Victor is going to be the biggest MMORG

Nerf09Nerf09 Member CommonPosts: 2,953

-All objects have a combustability rating.  That means no more invulnerable buildings, or destroyed buildings instantly rebuilding themsevles after some time.  Finally, the ability to build and destroy with ease.  (Not spend 3 weeks playing time on getting enough materials to build a lousy indestructable house that acts like a bank, SwG)

-Ability to raise an army and have to pay maintenence.  YES!  The true power of money, and the real difficulties in maintaining that army.  Also morale of the soldiers and health comes into play.

-PvP as it was meant to be, as it is in real life.  If you want that land, you gotta take it from the other guy.

-Real estate that actually means something when you own it.

-Hard core death penalty, you lose what you got when you die, and you can be looted by thieves.

I dont even know where to keep going with this cause its such a drastic change from every other cookie cutter MMORG bore out there.

It's certainly different, which says a lot for it on its own.  Different in a good way?  I suppose that's for you to decide for yourself.  Personally, I think so.

It's also got twitch based combat! Like Mount&Blade

I can see it now your doin nice with a little homestead and your buddy drops by for a visit.  You let him in to shoot the bull for a sec when a legion comes marching up on your lil homestead you spent weeks building.  Little do you know your buddy just talked smack to to some guy and now he's lookin for your buddy.  Next thing you know your caught in the wrong place at the wrong time and this guy destroys your house to teach you a lesson for hiding a criminal.  Sounds like fun gonna be interesting to see how this is gonna work out.  I do think though that this type of stuff will go far in helping build a strong community somthing alot of games these days seem to lack.

I've been following this game for a couple of years, basically I've not been excited as this about any game before - ever, some of the info you get from the devs makes me tremble with anticipation. I've a love for history which is pushing me over the top for RV. It does stand a chance of being a huge success because of the combat and extent of the crafting options.

From the beginning the game has had the involvement of the community who have actually influenced & even changed the game design. I think the games industry will have to take note if this community-centric game becomes the success it promises. Hopefully other developers will begin listening to and involving their own communities throughout the development process - which will be good news for us all....

    Roma Victor!

Open PVP makes for great community. Finally alliances actually mean something. I just hope they update the graphics because what i've seen is unbelievably aweful.

Devs have said that most of the graphical effects are not switched on yet (since they want to test the fundamental game systems first).

I'm really looking forward to this mmorpg- so refreshingly different. I just hope the game is released as a finished product.

I don't think it will be a hugely popular game at release but if the quality is there (we already know the uniqueness is there) then the player base will grow swiftly.

I have to agree with the original poster - Roma Victor will be massive! There is nothing else like this game or even close to it....

On the graphics issue I think RV has had unfair press, they *only* release screens of the actual in-game test rather than use photoshop to make everything look pretty (which they could easily do). When a game is developed the last consideration should be the eye-candy, RV can switch on the ground effects and it matches most MMO's out there now. There are some extremely pretty games out at the moment, EQ2 and I admit to being blown away by Ryzom when I 1st saw it - but looks ain't everything and the lack of gameplay & balance easily outweighs the niceness of the graphics.

Roma Victor is the game that takes us back to the principles of online gaming - COMMUNITY. Support RV and watch game devs follow their lead, making games for players not for spreadsheets.

Shadowbane has all of these things, and it is failing.

You can attack anybody anywhere, it will not be lawless. Roman towns will be policed. Free towns will rely on player initiatives.

SB also had point-and-click movement, whole player cities disappearing and many other craptastic accidental "features" as well. RV and SB are on opposite ends of many different spectrums, if you want to compare the two.

I just browsed their website a couple days ago and I was totally shocked.  These guys are finally thinking out of the cookie-cutter MMORG box.  They finally realize the fun cause and effect can have.

CAUSE AND EFFECT in cookie cutter MMORG:  None.  Your buildings are invulnerable, your equipment cannot be stolen, if you die theres no effect.

CAUSE AND EFFECT in Roma Victor:  Every action you take has an effect on the environment, on you, and on other players.  Just like in real life.  If it happens in real life it should happen in a video game.  HEck they even have Elesium (Heaven), if you die, depending on how powerful your character is, the trip through Elesium will be more difficult.  WOW!

Are you kidding me?  IF me and my townsfolk players of 10 get stolen from or are raided by an enemy group of barbarians or even Romans, we could ask for help from nearby towns, or we could raid Roman player villages ourselves.  If the pressure gets too much we could even MOVE A TOWN.  Since Europe will be modelled at half scale I expect lots of open spaces to do lots of things.  The options are limitless.

since the options are limitless you wont have lots of borred gamers that do nothing but gank because theyre borred out of their skull.

    ""* Elysium

Death for whatever reason is not to be taken lightly. Unless your character has attained the (optional) 'Legend' class it will be instantly whisked away to the mysterious wonders of Elysium where your character will have to navigate its way through fantastic landscapes, puzzles, physical challenges, demons and duels. Those that have led a simple life can expect a relatively painless and trouble-free journey through Elysium and will soon find themselves licking their wounds back in the safety of their hometown. Characters that have led less virtuous lives can expect to have a much tougher time in Elysium and are therefore likely to take longer to return. ""

I was wondering since World War II online uses a 1/2 scale map of Europe if they licsensed thier map for Roma Victor?

The size is awesome the travel in this game will be crazy.

  • Nerf09Nerf09 Member CommonPosts: 2,953

I use to play wwiionline hardcore since its release for 3 years straight.  The problem with scale in wwiionline is that its 1 person for 1 soldier.  Thats pretty lame when you think about the very thin population density.

With Roma Victor, its genius.  You can have slaves, an entire legion.  You dont have to do all the manual work yourself (except if your a new player that cant afford NPC's).  So the world will be far more populated.  Im guessing if they had 10,000 players, and each have 100 NPC's.  then it would be like having 1 million players in a Europe at half scale.  Its still thinly populated compared to todays standards, but FAR more realistic then wwiionline.

There was a good suggestion in wwiionline forums a long time ago, "why can twe have npc soldiers?"  Yeah why not?

Only if your death is at hand of a PC, not an NPC.

The ideas behind this game are WICKED. It sounds to me kinda like Ultima Online before Trammel *fond sigh of remembrance* I love the fact that its twitch based and yet completely RPGish too. Plus it won't be a cakewalk, so casual gamers will run for the hills image It might get a bit hot, Imagine some dude burning down your house that you worked for a year on!

Intriguing, to say the VERY least!

I seriously doubt the game will ever break 50K.  Open PvP games drive away any large player base and with the historical setting PvE will be so mondane every other title releasing around the same time will outshine it.  Combine Shadowbane and A Tale in the Desert and you might create an interesting place for a free trial, but few will want to pay to play there.
