As someone stated before, I tried to very clearly state this is just my own personal List (as these always are).  But that's not the issue I guess.  I apologize if my List caused you any deep cerebral harm, and hereby withdraw all of my remaining "Geek Cred."

In short, chill guys.  It's an Editorial column about one man's tastes.  Tastes I freely admit will not surely match your own.  Feel free to make your lists in the comments, but is the vitriol really needed?

Then title it as such.  There is nothing in the present title that says it's YOUR opinion.

    Change the title.

Sorry man, your attitude in that note is the same as when someone points out "hey dude! your fly is open." And the reaction is to try and laugh it off while wishing the earth swallows him on the spot.

    Fake.

I told you Bill quit reading this stuff man. I'm serious. Heh

EVE = Is an awesome game. I don't care what anyone says. I'm not a subscriber, but I know an awesome game when I've played it.

So they chose a bunch of games made on personal taste. Get a grip guys. Everything is opinion.

I like Mortal Online. Which is opinion. I think it's an awesome game for my taste and has great possibilities.

Xysom = I give them props for trying to pull something off that ballsy and different. I haven't played it but I could give a flying pig. Still give them props even for the concept.

Lego Universe = I grew up playing with the real deal. If I was a dust snorter then playing an online version would be like trying to get the same effect from powdered sugar. Still very likely a cool, funny, and fun game. I mean come on. It's LEGOs for Pete sake...

Champions Online = Agreed that it has the best character customization. I tried the other Superhero games. Nah not even close in my opinion.

Fallen Earth = Again a game that needs props for what it is and what it attempts. Whether people like attempts or not I'm not really bothered if they care. I like attempts. The men who attempted to make a game based around paper, dice, and stats started all this. Aren't you glad they made the attempt?

I bow down to no one game as being the ultimate game. On the others of the list. Pirates never got my interest I was more a ninja man. Jumpgate? Well the new looks/looked if not gonna happen a little interesting. Anarchy Online I'm sure was the stuff back in the day if I grew up playing it, but I didn't and just didn't favor it. I give it props for being a or the grandfather scifi mmo though.

@ Reas43 - I am in no way poking, proding, or trying to provoke negative reaction. I just wanted to ask. Do you need it in the title?

The first part of the article has it in it. Besides the fact that when someone gives a list of favorite things do we assume that their voice among the masses sets the ground work for fact within a personal taste or tastes of our own?  Do you take People Magazine's  man or woman of the year to heart when they give an opinion of who it is?

"There are an awfully lot of non-fantasy MMOs coming out in the next couple years.  I mean, it’s hardly a death knell for the good ol’ swords and boards, but the coming years are indicative of the ever-changing face of MMO gaming.  People want access more than just the medieval-inspired worlds.  However, for years now, there have been plenty of non-fantasy MMOs on the market, and many are fantastic experiences in their own right.  Mind you this list is based on my own bias towards these games, and not any “set in stone” criteria.  I also suspect that this list will change greatly over the next year or two as some of the next crop of games hit the ground running.  In any case, here are ten titles that are worth checking into if you have a hankering for anything but fantasy fare."

The green highlighted statment may not say it to most, but I got the notion that it's based on his own bias towards these games. Another words his own taste. His own personal preference. His own opinion.

Again I am in no way jumping down your throat, but also does he have to be real online? He's blowing it off probably cause it got under his skin that so many people went ape shite over saying something simple in the sense of liking certain products. Would anyone like it if everyone went berzerk on them cause they choose to like something or things that others don't and gave a voice to it? If he's real with a reaction or not who cares.

I don't normally talk this much or would have this kind of conversation with someone I don't even know outside of the net. So I'm just as much a fake. Just consider it please.

Lego universe? Over Vendetta, SWG, and Star Trek? Really?

That is in my opinion lame, but everyone has a opinion and you are entitled to yours.

For clarification purposes earth and beyond was way before jumpgate and was the first space based mmo, and i feel planetside should have also been mentioned
  • KnaveSkyeKnaveSkye Member UncommonPosts: 137

I think i saw one other person mention it, woulda liked to see auto assault on the list...game still gets my "most origional" nomination.

Good list....i have had a lot of fun in the top 4 games and did not enjoy the bottom 6.

    Playing: PO, EVE
    Waiting for: WoD
Favourite MMOs: VG, EVE, FE and DDO
Any person who expresses rage and loathing for an MMO is preposterous. He or she is like a person who has put on full armor and attacked a hot fudge sundae.

Where is Darkfall on this list?.. I got some of the best MMO PvP elements ..and wtf is Xsyon doing on that list.. Played it for 2 weeks, it's SHIT!

All you haters need to get  a grip and try reading the top portion. Holy hell.

  • VyethVyeth Member UncommonPosts: 1,461

I think Perpetuum is more deserving than Xsyon, although my stay in Xsyon was a needed change it was a very incomplete game.. And to think it is being SOLD for mainstream price with "promises" of a brighter future.. Perpetuum was more "complete" and its offerings were in the veins of EvE but in a different light..

There is no way an incomplete mess such as Xsyon can make a "top" anything when such releases like Ryzom, The Matrix Online (which used a fluid cinematic combat engine that really looked nice just played confusing), and Earth and Beyond were left out..

The only comic based game that should be listed is City Of.. MAYBE DCUO simply because if you are a console player , it was right down your alley..

But I understand that this is your opinion, and like everyone else in this thread, I gave you guys mine.. :-)

Well for one thats your opinion, and last time i checked Eve is pretty much the second most popular mmo in America.  If you classify that as a select few, i suppose every other mmo besides wow also qualifies.

Eve the 2nd most popular mmo in America ? Alllrighty then! LOL seriously ?

he's quite serious.  it's hard to know the exact stats but it's probably pretty close.

Also, while it's hard to know the above, what is easy to know is this little fact:

More people play EVE together than any other MMO ever made - including WoW.

I wasn't gonna respond and this is off OP topic but I had to  ... That after the 800 pound gorilla we all know is Wow that Eve is the second most popular MMO ... did you forget about RIFT?

shame that mmorpg really doesn´t like perpetuum. Seems there is some kind of personal grudge going.

mmorpg is really losing its relevance to me.

Strangely enough, that's what I enjoyed  most in Eve.

What?!  How the #$@! is Stargate Worlds not on this list?!

    come on!!!!

I really hope that *insert game name here* will be the first game to ever live up to all of its pre-release promises, maintain a manageable hype level and have a clean release. Just don't expect me to hold my breath.

    I really enjoyed Tabula Rasa.

    3. DC Universe Online *fix*

  • RoccprofitRoccprofit Member Posts: 98

Despite Sony's mishandleing I would agree with an earlier post that SWG belongs on there somewhere especially since the spread sheet online with friends "eve" is on the list. That game will give you a good case of bordom. The graphics are pretty but it does not take long for "click on target, choose orbit distance, press f go to the movies" to get old.

I agree completely with your top 3, then after that it gets a little funky. But hey, it's a list of opinions, and I respect that...just like all the other miserable people in this thread "knowing" that their opinions are right and yours is wrong should.

Fallen Earth, despite its obvious lack of funding and Dev team size, is and will always be one of my favorite MMOs in my 13 years of playing them.

Most superheroes are based on a sci-fi premise.   (i.e. Batman - technology, Spiderman, X-men = genetic mutation, Superman - from another planet)

However, you are right in that some of them ARE based on magic (Witchblade, etc.).  So yes, given that both CoH and CO allow your background to be magic-based, it's fair to say the game is a combination of both.

As I pointed out above though, the list is not labeled as "best sci-fi games", but best "non-fantasy".  And by "fantasy", i think what is meant is the "high fantasy" (sword & sorcery).  So both superhero and star wars games can stay.

Xsyon Earth calls itself a fantasy MMO; it is misuse of the word as much as anything. 'Fantasy' now means MMO's, RPG's etc. A lot of people say fantasy when they mean science fiction, stupid but that’s the norm these days.

Be it pre cu or post NGE then either way it belongs in this list.

Bullsh*t. SWG has been utterly ruined by SOE and yes, if somehow forced to choose between them, I really would rather play Lego Universe.

  • sungodrasungodra Member Posts: 1,376

SWG should be in that list. At least in the place of lego universe... what a joke. Some of those other games mentioned are garbage btw.
