20 Races Or Voice Over?

RageaholRageahol Member UncommonPosts: 1,127

In your opionion do you really need your character to have their own voice? Couldn't one make the arguement that listening is just reading with your ears.

I would rather see 20 playable races (its starwars) then My character having a voice for cutscenes and such..

(I know this post will change nothing about how the game is being developed or what will be in the game at launch but I like to see others thoughts)

Once you are done levelling your character you are left with your speechless toon doing end content.

    => Species > VO.

  • whilanwhilan Member UncommonPosts: 3,472

Actually for me it's the other way around, i'd prefer the VO/cutscenes then having a lot of races.  I got other MMO games for that.  If i want that i play that.

I can't really go anywhere to find VO/cutscenes in games. I guess AoC but then i'm restricted to Tortage and even then my character doesn't talk.

I was actually really in tune with the game and was loving the tortage scene, i was like okay this is awsome i'm going to love this...then i left tortage and i was trying to hold onto the voice overs thinking the npcs were buged and weren't talking.  Until i found out that it was working how they wanted it to.

So to me VO actually make a big difference to me.

Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.

Is ToR going to be good? Dude it's Bioware making a freaking star wars game, all signs point to awesome. -G4tv MMo report.

Id rather have alot of things other than races. 20 races? Not really that big of a deal..woo, everyone is a different race? Id rather have some voices.

Ever played witcher 2? It has complete voice over's and it is the best thing since sliced bread. You are PLAYING a movie.

    20 races?

Not a big deal to me.

I'd rather have an MMO I decide is worth playing for more than a few days or a month.. than 20 races or voice overs.

Very well said. And so far we don't know exaclty how this particular game is going to perform on the long term. Hell we aren't even really sure just which races and just how many will make the final cut. Bioware could have some nice new tricks up their sleeves to keep us enterained and playing for a long time, or like with the game interface they could have just stuck with what worked in the past where its just BG, Raid, rinse repeat. Time will tell.

I don't care for voiceover at all. And, I always play human in MMO's so...

Race is irrelevant to me, it is just the casing that my class fits into. So obviously VO > Races for me.

But the VO and  classes for my upcoming SW experience will mean something. I can experience a true story with VO and choice in a MMO game world. I an not looking for a virtual world to live in. I have too much going on in RL for that any more. Just give my this upgraded MMO journey with SW lore and I will be happy.

Um... why not play 20 different games than you'll have 1000s of races to play? I mean seriously what the heck man? What's in the race? Visual?

This is BioWare. BioWare makes Mass Effect. Mass Effect has Shepard (you). Shepard has voice. Heroes have voices. Mass Effect great game success on the market. First time a heroe on a rpg has a voice. It WORKS!

Future: WoD, SWTOR, Arche Age, Tera (maybe), GW2.
    Present: None.
Past: Eve, RIFT, UO, bunch of F2P crap.

In any game I have seen with BGs/arenas/pvp, races are just visual fluff. Anything that actually makes the races different is promptly whined to death. SInce the voice overs are just audio fluff, I put the 2 on the same lvl of importance.

If we are wishing for things, I wish the game was coming out in 3 weeks. Instead of voiceovers

Considering what TOR is, strip away the Story and VO, what are you left with? 20 races to mob grind with, run genreic quest chains over and over with? The only redeeming possibility would be PVP, but then how many would be okay with that?  WIthout the VO work and presentation that comes with it, there really wouldn't be anything all that different going on in this game, 20 races would not make that a better future for TOR.

I would prefer 20 races over voice over any day. there needs to be variation. Voice over is nice if its in all the right spots and not every where. I don't need to hear all the dialog for questing or what not.

Why dont more games just quit with specific races and do what Champions Online and City of Heroes does? Give players a bunch of bits to make their OWN race.

    this.

You'd think they'd take one good idea from the star trek mmo.

I would take more races over voice over for sure.

I do NOT understand this. What is this "race" about? Are we talking about visuals? What are we talking about? Say GW2, there are 5 different races. But if you are telling me that there should be 20 races, and no voice overs then I disagree.

20 races Vs full Voice over....sounds more like a quality over quantity kinda deal.  Personally I am just hoping that these guys focus on the bascis and master them before moving on to the crazier stuff, there are always patches to add more content.  However if I was given a choice over 20 races and VO, I would pick VO hands down.

Not by a long shot, I believe the first was JC Denton in the original Deus Ex. It was probably Deus Ex that inspired Mass Effect to some degree.

As to the question at hand, I'd definitely prefer the VO, races can be added anytime. What I don't get is why people still complain about the VO. I realize VO and a cinematic experience isn't everybodies cup of tea, but I personally love it.

Nobody is going to get everything they want in the game, which has been a problem from the start. Since it's Star Wars everybody wants their type of game with their favorite features, but the game can't be all things to all people. This is a Bioware game plus a sequel of sorts to Kotor so you have to expect that it will have many of the same features as the Kotor game, it is in fact a Kotor MMO; so if you didn't like Kotor you're not likely to like this game. People need to stop trying to wish it into something else, it'll only depress you.

It is not SWG 2. It is not a freestyle game which allows many races and/or any race/class combination you can dream up. It is not an fps game. It is not a new and improved WAR in a Star Wars skin. It's innovations are not of the blow your mind variety. It is simply a Kotor MMO and I for one can't wait!

  • AdamantineAdamantine Member RarePosts: 5,094

    Neither.

I really dont give much of a damn about VO. Even less I want to play an "interactive movie".

And I really dont care about all these race options either. Its Star Wars. It doesnt have my beloved darkelves anyway. So meh, I'm just gonna be human.

I prefer cinematics/VO to races as I always play human anyway. I find other races boring, unintriguing, ugly etc. Lizards, yetis, wookies, elves etc why would I want to play any of these? So I don't care if the game has 100 races or 1 race. I actually like it this way because there will be no class restrictions. I can play human + any class unlike other MMOs where the game forces me to play another race (for example in WOW, I played night elf all the time because I wanted to play a druid).

I say no races or no class restrictions :)

Add me as another one that prefers VO over a species which I do not plan on playing. I really prefer a Mass Effect / Deus Ex style over a bunch of mute toons running around.

I would rather have voices. If you look at it this way, if voices are allready in game, it wil be easier to add more races later, since you will have to only add voices for them.

    /sigh Or not

    ...

Honestly , I don't care about having 20 species, what game do you know has that many playable races?  I don't even think SWG has that many.

If I play the game, it will be because of the voice over.. If it didn't have that , then it is just another wow like game to me, and I might as well play rift.

Hope the game is good, and the gameplay is fun.
