These games already have realms with different rules settings (PvP, PvE, RP, etc..). Is it really impossible to make some realms with different difficulty modes (Easy, Normal, Hard) to avoid these kind of random nerfs that ruin the game for many paying customers.
The biggest problem in these games is that difficulty levels are not constant throughout the gaming experience. That creates frustration or boredom, depending on a player type experiencing the content.
You can't force everyone to play in a same sandbox, but in most themeparks there's more than one of them. Why not paint some of them red while the others are green and blue?
you are right, but if they realise that the genre is being dumbed down and they can have even more fun and their money would be better spent in better developed mmos, im sure they wouldnt support a game that tries to take their money while basically screwing the game at the same time
game devs get that bad habit of asking for money and not giving content that worth the money
Actually I like this feature of moving around every 7 days. Say you're in a low populated or dying server (or any type of server that does not have the necessary people to do what you want, maybe in your server there are no decent raiding guilds or PvP guilds).
You shop around for a new server. You ask a bit in the general channels but you can't be really sure until you move there yourself. Bonus points for the totally free transfer.
You just realised that the server you thought was decent is in fact not. You now have the ability to move to another server and hope for the best that this will become your new home. Again, no money taken for the improvement of your gaming experience.
Can this feature be abused? Perhaps, but I believe that the majority that will use it will be the legitimate users and not the abusers. I also think that it will be buggy at first, since it looks like the whole process will be automated. Still beats the service provided by other games in terms of cost.
Your response is highly illustative of one problem.
You cant have the developers saying they want to build community and implement features that allow players to transfer server every 7 days.
Any resonably experienced mmorpg player - never mind a developer - would know that and Trion are guilty again of communicating a particular intention/strategy/vision for RIFT and then implementing a feature/features that undermine achievement of that goal.. and piss off a load of their customers in the process.
If they wanted a game where players could transfer servers every 7 days they should have implemented it from day 1 and they should shut up about "community". They might as well have implemented a cross server LFG tool too while they were at it.
What has happened imo is that they have decided not to fall into the same trap as Mythic and are rolling out additional content fast, trying to milk their existing player base to get as much revenue in asap and decided not to have any kind of end game approaching warhammers - which proved unworkable.
Add to that, unhelpful "PR" and we are where we are ......

If you're saying that people shouldn't be satisfied with something simple when they could enjoy a more complex system, then I agree with you. I just think some people prefer (and enjoy) simpler games.
Pretty much every modern MMO has player transfers these days. Just not at launch. The only difference is that the majority request monetary compensation for the transfer. According to your logic all these MMOs have no communities?
If you are unhappy with the community of one server and want to leave, you're by default not part of that community. Whether you re-roll or transfer to another server makes no difference to the fact that you wanted nothing to do with the "old" community in the first place..
Not going to lie, I'm really glad that I cancelled my RIFT account, sure, I slaved away at grinding to get to 50 and then started into the Experts and even into Greenscale's Blight a few times. While the concept of the character development is truly amazing, you still find yourself going into the same things with WoW and other MMO's that require you to build your character a certain way to maintain the best DPS.
While leveling through the game, I had many conversations and a few arguments about how to build your toon. Nobody was ever right or wrong, but as I got closer and closer to 50, I saw more and more people going with the same builds and the only difference in dps was their gear. It truly was a sad sight to see and started my downward spiral of not wanting to play the game anymore. That was the main thing that brought me into the game, the pure customization, sure I could still go do whatever I wanted to when I was grinding or farming, but if I wanted to be competitive and be in some of the front runner raids, I had to have things a certain way, and that single fact tore me away from the game.
Now I hear about this free server transfer and completely "dumbing down" dungeons, just reading it makes me so glad that I stopped playing the game. I don't understand why the devs would want to do that. Sure everyone was crushed when they found out the first world event was just an unveiling of a new end-game raid. I knew what was coming and I was ecstatic just to get a glimpse inside, but nobody wants to do the research into things anymore. People just want things spoon-fed to them so they don't have to work at it. Makes me sad to think that this is what has started to take over the gaming community. (Not all of you, just a percentage, but it's growing, and quite fast)

Well yea .. when you copy the McDonald's of MMOs that's what you get; crap. When you market to their people that's what you get; kids and trolls.
What's hilarious is how predictable all of this has been. Go back and look to pre-release comments and people who played in beta.
All these threads are giving me schadenfreud hard-ons, all the carebears were telling pvpers to piss off, now where are they? el oh el.
Currently Playing: Perpetuum MMOs Played (most time spent to least): World of Warcraft (BG/Open world PvP focused), Lord of the Rings Online (PvMP focused), Warhammer Online (BG PvP focused), Global Agenda, Age of Conan, DC Universe Online (PvP focused), Runes of Magic, Allods, Aion, Fallen Earth
Well if its coffins your talking about then RIFTS one very healthy lively corpse at the moment .Proberbly got more bounce in it that those fast zombies in the remake of Day of the Dead . I cant move for people on the servers I'm playing on and I'm way past the areas people would play on the free trial .
While I can't say I like everything about RIFT it is at present the only fantasy genre mmo thats even remotely worth paying a monthly fee for now . Its nowhere near as face palm easy as WoW is nowdays but in the same breath its nowhere near as good as WoW Vanilla .
I'm not sure what the likes of GW2 and Starwars the old republic will be like . If they are better than this I'll most likly move on to them .
At present though RIFT is about as good as it gets in mmos unless you want to play something totally different like EvE or go back to the game WoW has become which fine for extremly casual , novice or/and very young gamers ( a little endgame content aside that still offers some degree of challenge still but you have to waid through all that dross to get to it ) .
I'm sticking with RIFT for the time being . All these rumours that its dead are totally unfounded its packed with people and the numbers seam to be at least steady and if anything are proberbly growing .
I'm sticking with RIFT at the moment (at least untill something better comes along) because I'm enjoying it . If it goes down the root of WoW I'll give it up but at present its nowhere near as bad .
I wonder if some people will ever come to the realization that they are burnt out on mmos. Rather than come here and complain, complain, complain, put the mmo down and pick up a offline game. My advice is go play witcher 2. Put the mouse down and step away from the computer.
I wonder if some people will ever come to the realization that they are burnt out on lobby-system single-player RPG's masquerading as a massively-multiplayer RPG. Sounds like some people are catching-on to the single-player RPG scam that asks for $15/month.

I fail to see how having a few FotM builds become the most popular and most used is a thing that's limited to WoW-styled MMO's. Afaik a few killer builds was pretty much a problem even in classless or sandbox MMO's like SWG for example.
You may get "hardons" as much and whenever you like, but this is what it is and it has nothing to do with Rift, but more with how PvP favors a few popular killer builds that most people will follow, until other killer builds are discovered.
The ease with which predictions are made on these forums: Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."
I came to the conclusion long ago that MMORPG and PVP are pretty much mutually exclusive. The typical PVP player isn't all that interested in the RPG aspect beyond building their character and the typical PVE player is all about the immersive RPG experience with contempt for the epeen-waving FOTM PVP mentality.
People can chime in with "well I'm a PVE player and I enjoy PVP" or "I play for PVP, but I really get into questing" and such. You're the exceptions, not the norm. Anyone who's played MMORPG's for a decade or more knows this.
Best dungeons runs i ever played was in DDO. This comes from the mouth of a guy that played wow more than 5 years. And this fact comes for a reason.
1st of all The dps story kills the fun in the dungeons/raids. In ddo u cant say dps exist simply evry time u attack u dont know if your attack is going to hit due to combat's setting /ruleset design. The wow /rift /eq combat formula is based on the fact that every attack is probably going to hit and all u have to do is raise hit % and expertise % and therefore the dps factor runs the whole show. They put u on the trip to minimize miss %chance and thats it.
2nd In ddo you must use most of your skills no matter if u are mage ,archer, rogue, healer ,tank cause the dungeons/raids are made such a way that in many cases there is a good chance that u ll have to tank/fight for many seconds mobs ,so either u must ensure yourself your survival for some seconds or cc/slowq down mobs ,either kite them,or kil 1-2 mobs alone, while the others are busy with some other mobs etc etc. encounters some times spawn at the back or right or left side ,far from the tank and ddo's tanking isnt with the meaning tht wow has for example( tank gathers all mobs so the rest dps can pew pew relaxed at the back and healer just spams heals on the tank hitting just 1-2 buttons which ofc is dull easy and makes game boring).
IM sure rift cant change now the rulest they have, but what they can do is ,make dungeons in such a way that other things than just pew pew is required.
Soon we wil all have 5 henchman and 20 minute raids becuase some group of peeps convinced game designers that they have a life and need it to be easy street. Look at cataclysm as an example of our gaming future. Look at what we know about TOR so far.
It easy street my friends and gaming that matters is going the way of the free epics crowd.
Nothing wrong with that if that is what players want.
CATALYSM .. easy? Dungeons were nerfed because players complain they are TOO HARD in the beginning. Even now, you actually need to CC, and know the fight to get through the new troll dungeons.
