This community is among the worse in the MMO world. Damn I've play them all including WoW and this one tops the cake for community.
Started in landroval......and wow I have never met such a unhelpful and elitist community.
There is no culture in the community at all. Yeah saying the word bacon and make the same jokes a million time over is the lamest thing I've ever heard of in all my MMO days, atleast some worse (gamewise) mmo's have decent communities.
You hear /ignored and /report alot in game for little or no reason and guess what, "Turbine" really bans for no or little reason.
The Free to Play status speaks for itself.
The game itself is decent, the players are elitists low lifes, Turbine seems like a terrible company(Well they werent bad back in AC alil nazish but.) Hell I saw them ban like 2 VIP's when f2p players were dual boxxing and trolling glff.
Overall I think I will take my money elsewhere. I even saw they were banning paying members over free members so yeah.
I will not be surprised when WB shuts down LOTRO, see its employees in action makes me happy when I see them out off a job.
Also remember they ban paying members more then F2P and the ban for everything so think before you buy.
Cenorship is heavy on the fourms that should speak for itself of Turbines quality.

I have to somewhat agree about the community. They seem nice, but, it's happened way too many times that people simply don't respond to simple questions, or worse, questing together when you're killing the same mobss (or about to kill a boss....).
I get ignored so much when meeting people in game, it's not even funny. Most MMOs are not like that at all.
Hmm, strange. I can only speak for Snowbourne but I've always found the majority playerbase to be refreshingly mature, helpful, funny and a pleasure to play with. In fact, for me, it's been the chief pull of the game after years of wow turning me deeply cynical and possibly even a little sociopathic! Of course you get the odd nobhead out and about or in general chat but they're so rare they instantly stand out like a sore thumb, making for a short ignore list. I needn't point out that my ignore list in warcraft was about as long as a phone book and got to the point where I was ignoring so many twats and horrible kiddie gear-elitists, I suddenly realised it was a systemic problem and that I disliked 90% of the community so we parted company for good.
One thing I have seen in LOTRO is a very low tolerance for bad language in general chat or kinships, which initially surprised me since I always thought that was what profanity filters were for. However, I gradually saw the wisdom of not having every gimp in general spamming 'f**kin c**ts!' unnecessarily every two minutes in everyone's face. I think this has much to do with it having a generally more mature audience, many of whom have their own kids playing the game. As for banning peeps, I would be amazed if they were cutting off VIP cash source in an FTP game for no good reason, it's a precarious business model and they're not stupid. If someone is being a dick and causing a problem for the rest of the community then of course they'll ban them. You'd need specific examples of people who were banned for no reason to make it a general problem. This is difficult to demonstate of course since anyone who does get banned will say 'wtf, I did nothing!!', just like in the movie Shawshank Redemption where everyone in prison is 'an innocent man'.
Anyway sorry you didn't like the game, good luck with whatever ever else you play.
The only bit I can comment on with absolution is that on the server I played on not a single person would answer questions I would ask in the chat channels, and I went to the major human city and asked even (Bree I believe?). Normally at least SOMEONE says something. I would have even prefered somone make a bad joke and call me a noob over the complete silence that I recieved.
Oh well, its a well built game, but combat was a bit too slow for me (as expected, anything else wouldnt fit right with the lore or the world). Have fun to those who enjoy it, and oh well to those who dont.
Remember new players Turbine gives free TP to those who speak of LOTRO in a positive light on the forums and throughout the internet. They were bragging about that in a podcast.
What?! Gimme my free TP!!
I play on Landroval and you have no idea what you are talking about...seriously.
oh BTW..."Turbines quality" among other things, won them PC Gamers MMO of the year.
Sorry, but from the highlighted sections it sounds like what happened is you made an ass of yourself as many people do in many other FTP games, but the mature player base in LOTRO wasn't having it this time.
"Gypsies, tramps, and thieves, we were called by the Admin of the site . . . "
Good point. I would say you are on the money with that statement.
I think we can use the OP as proof that LotrOs community is great. Thanks!
If WoW = The Beatles
and WAR = Led Zeppelin
Then LotrO = Pink Floyd
Hehe I may have been subtly implying that :P One other thing I would add is that if someone asks a question that:
a) has already been asked five times that hour
b) could be answered with a simple google search, implying that the person would rather bother people than help themselves with little effort
c) asks in an impolite manner e.g. 'ffs, where is the inn in Bree omfg!?!'
then people won't be chomping at the bit to reply but you'll find that in any game.
Sounds to me like you wanted to troll people and they simply ignored you. If thats not the case, which channel did you ask your question and what was it?
Besides there is only one single reason you hear people saying they reported you, and thats when you are making an ass out of yourself and breaking the EULA. Like others pointed out people in LotRO won't put up with that kind of crap, and yes Turbine wont care wether your a VIP, F2P or even LTA, you break the EULA you get(temp) banned.
If you truly felt mistreated you would have launched a complaint with customer service or directly messaged the CM lead on forums, cause you know, how many other games you can directly get in contact with the CM lead again? You however went to a unofficial forum to badmouth a company and game without even bothering to give actual examples of mistreatment, much less screenshots or othe things to make you look even a little bit credible.
P.S.: Where are my free TPs? Me needs horsies!!!
What he said is the total opposite. I've played for years and never had an arguement with anyone on there. Nor did I hear of anyone getting banned for no reason. I believe you just went on the game and started spamming. People don't usually talk on the main chat, but I like it that way. We leave all our business in Kinship chats and such.
Elitists?
It seems like someone got told off for being annoying... And in LOTRO, you'll have to be a major annoyance to be told off. Because this game has the most pleasent playerbase.
I have to disagree with you on this. The community, at least on my server, has always been helpful and friendly. In no other game do random players help people out the way they do here. Maybe your experience was bad on Landroval, but on Brandywine the community is outstanding. You can't expect a super serious environment all the time - it's game, have fun, joke around. You can go to Bree, hear people play music. There is alot to get involved with in this game.
The Free to Play implementation ruined the game for me, but there is still some merit to this game. I find it rather obtuse how you use the term "Nazi' to describe Turbine. It is their property, if they choose to limit how their property is used, that is their right and their choice. Don't like it? Go play something different. I have seen little gold spammers here compared to the amount on other f2p titles, aion or WoW.
I have only one thing to add - if you had TRULY been looking for help, you would have been referred to one of the 'global' channels (every server has at least one like <glff>) "Most" people ignore the general channel (although sometimes you can get some pretty lively conversations happening in The Shire)
As for going out of business? Yeah...that's happening...soon....Of course, they'll first have to layoff the 250 new employees they've added over the last seven months.....but I see it happening....SOON(I'm too lazy to do the cool tm like Sapience does )
I've played Lotro for many years on the Brandywine server and the only way the OP was treated like that is becuase the OP was a troll. Plain and simple the immature low lives and trolls will absolutely hate Lotro's community, and the sincere, more adult crowd will love it. Lotro has tons of flaws, don't get me wrong however the community is not one of them.
lotro community is the same good/bad as any other ftp community.
There is just no reason why unsozial ppl play this game. I agree with you when you say that is has a more worse comm. then ptp games, its because the elitis ppl who play for many years now dont accept the ftp games. And I can understand that... ftp games are a magnet for annoying kiddys.
So the bottom of line is, ftp game have a comm. made of unsozial elit gamers and annoying kiddys. ;-)
i,m on laurelin eu,the community there is excellent..i,m sorry you think the community is bad whichever server you have been on.it maybe just a case of bad luck.i did notice when i went on a US server people were being abusive to each other but that could have been in jest.was not on long enough to judge.
Is this another go at f2p? Just asking =P
I don't know about the company, but I agree that the players aren't that great.
I decided to try Lotro about 5 months ago because I was sick of playing Wow for multiple reasons, but I wasn't bored with the basic themepark design. People said that it had a really nice, helpful and mature community. So I try it...and the community is far worse than Wows and Eve (a community I think isn't that great).
1. They don't talk for most non city zones (not even /wave like in Wow, or talk about nothingness like in Eve.).
2. Ask a question, get ignored (in low level zones in WoW people at least say "I don't know," in Eve they answer nicely until you ask too many questions.)
3. In low level zones people don't want to team up or even play with you. (in all zones in wow 1 in 10 people will help you randomly, and 50% of people will team up with you if you ask. In Eve if you ask they will team up).
4. People aren't Kind: In the secondary zone, after the beginning instanced like zone, there is a special moose like creature that you have to kill, so I was waiting my turn to kill it and someone swooped in out of no where to kill it. It didn't bother me the first time, but it happened again with a cave troll like creature, and a goblin or orc creature. This really annoyed me because in WoW, the worst community ever (lol), most people wait for you or team up with you. Like Hogger, a low level gnoll boss, I've never seen anyone cut, and I teamed up twice.
I actually prefer the immature WoW community, and elitist Eve community, because at least they aren't asocial, and are funny once in a while. It's hard to find the nice people in a community if nobody talks. The game was fun, but the community was just so...ugh...that I only played for about a week.

As has been the general concensus among responders, I do not agree with most of the OP's statements. I have played on the Landroval server since shortly after launch, and have found the majority of the community to be above average in comparison to many other MMOs. Of course, there will always be individual who are not helpful, inconsiderate, and derive enjoyment from harassing other players, those players are found in most online games. However, what I have found to be the case not only in LOTRO, but in other games that have been established for some time, is that players (myself included) get tired of responding to questions about the game which could easily be learned from actually reading in-game tutorial pop-ups or simply paying attention to what is going on. There are so many gamers who enter a game and immediately develop ADHD-like symptoms in which they ignore tutorials, don't read manuals, or fail to take advantage of an immense amount of information online. I understand being frustrated when someone comes in and steals a mob, but that happens. But when someone installs a game, loads it up, then clicks through all the tutorial information without reading anything, then stands around in the populated starter zone asking questions about game mechanics that were just explained in tutorial. If a player is not going to invest any effort or time in learning the game, don't be surprised if the community chooses not to reward your lack of effort by hand-holding you along the way.
I blame the UI and silly chat system(no official world channels, just dumb). It's hard to read sometimes when you are busy playing. I've played the game and found the community just fine. Example of a bad community is Age of Conan PVP servers. Talk about horrible. Anyway, I do know that I tend to miss alot of guild or region chat because it moves so fast through my window or the colors for the channel just don't pop out at me. I've always hated LOTROs UI and chat system as well as it's archaic LFG system. These 3 things need a major overhaul.
Yeah, I mean, when people get pissy because they didn't get an answer is real childish. First, the chat window is small at the start and people are usually really busy in the game creating things and such. You can't bash a game because people didn't answer a question you could've found yourself on google.
And the whole swooping in and killing monsters... Really? That's every MMO out there. However, in LOTRO the spawn times are very short.
wats wrong with u people these days. i play on riddlemark, yea been a few times me n few other had disagreements but we solved them and moved on. the community on the server i play on is outstanding in my opnion. people try to help ya out alot. ofc theirs time where ya might not get ur answer rite away but, you still get it from them when their not so busy. and ive seen people get banned also, but what got these people banned was wat they were saying. You cant come to these games thinking u can say anything ya like, their are rules, their is a TOS, if you folllow them youll find you have 0 issues. and as the company i find it to be a nice one. im enjoying their game to the fullest as i did ddo. just my 2 cents. if u wanna trash talk people, take it to another game cuz it ant welcome in this game :-)
Yeah once in a while, but not every single time you meet a boss type character. Spawn times in WoW are verys short too, but most people don't just kill it while you obviously are waiting.

Thats because everyone is in another phasing. Cmon now, you never see ppl out in the world in WoW. Semi-joking.
