Sounds good just sounds good. What are they going to do about PvE though?? Are we gonna have to fight all real mobs? I think they should have done a Greek version so they could include monster from Greek mythology for PvE.

I dont think anyone cares anymore if theyre playing a Roman, a German Soldier, or a 3 legged siamese twin ballerina who can cast fireballs on Alpha Centauri.  We/I am looking for a game where you can actually effect the virtual world your in.  All other games i've played, if anything is invulnerable, everything is ruined.  If one little NPC or one little house out in the stix is invulnerable it throws everything out of ballance.  If it happens in the real world, it should happen in a MMORG/RPG/TWICH.

In SWG all houses are invulnerable.  In order to combat overpopulation of houses, and for ballance reasons, SONY made it to where you have to collect a bajillion resources to make a lousy little house.  Never happened in real life, never should happen in a game.

In WWIIONLINE, you can never take  flamethrower and permanently burn down a building.  Because of this, tanks never crush buildings, flamethrowers are never going to be modelled, tactical bombing and strategic bombing is just a rediculous sideshow.   Among other things.

The inability to change the terrian, destroy and create with ease makes war nothing but a MINDLESS/BOre point and click fest.

No way, I think this game will be bigger then anything out there times two.  Most players out there are looking for exactly this, but dont know what they want, but sub-conciously are looking for this.  The same way most Republicans dont realize theyre actually Libertarians.   bAhAHAaa

Isnt it borring the way on Star Wars Galaxies every T-21 rifle sold costs exactly the same, player driven economy indeed.  This is because you can collect resources on Naboo and teleport to another planet and sell it for exactly the same price.   What point does the space-ship addon to SWG serve?  Just another mindless shoot em up game.  What if you had to actually TRANSPORT equipment, weapons, raw material through space.  WOW an actual working trade employment, actual pirates, actual privateers, actual trade guilds, not force-fed nonsense that means absolutely nothing at the end of the day.

Now wouldnt it be amazing if a T-21 costs 15 times more on Tantoine then it does in Naboo?  Why, because all of the raw materials are only on Naboo, and there is a powerful player controlled pirate gang operating between Tantoine and Naboo, thats why it costs so much on Tantoine.

During roman times, I believe copper was mined in Spain, and Tin was mined in Britain.  Imagine the enormous price difference when trying to bring these two raw materials together to create Bronze things like weapons and armor.  The options are limitless.

Check out the state of the world in the general discussion forums if you still dont know about this game. Lots of risks their taking, can give them credit enough for at least attempting many new ideas.

YEAHH it really looks like the game we were looking for (lets hope, it will fit the expectations)

Any way, it is a pitty it does not have spells. (I love wizards image)

Nerf: nice how you got insight in, not only the minds, but the subconcious of millions of people, who the heck you are?

For your information, EVE Online, that has most of the features Roma Victor has in terms of open pvp, harsh death penalty, destroyable stuff ecc ecc has 50k subscribers.

It is pointless to try to hide the fact Mainstream market simply do NOT prefer this games to others.

Is there something wrong with it? NO! there isn't! 50k subscriber is enough to mantain the game alive and give loads of fun to all people interested in it.

Do i like/not like the game? i am intrigued by their ambition and i applaud the project, this is beside the point, doesn't change reality of the western market. now, doing it in Asia, then maybe.... but in that market things are a bit different and Roma victor with its Grind-free structure might not appeal to the asian tastes.

Morale: Nothing wrong with Roma Victor, nothing wrong with looking forward to it, but please, try to be at least a bit realistic when you start to say things like "2x any other mmorpg ever done".

Amazing concept, but it won't go anywhere with those graphics, which is a shame, since most gamers initially get hooked by good graphics, so they're missing out on a large number of players. I think for such a game the more players the better.

I must PLAY this...when is it going to be released?

If it's got blood, I can kill it.

  • dunny33dunny33 Member Posts: 141

Im definatly gonna get this. The fact that I dont have to pay a monthly fee unless I want it a big seller. Now I can afford to play WWIIOL and something else. Also I love the potential this game has.

In the short term, no MMO can compete with Lineage(s) or WoW.

In the long term, assuming Turbine do a fine job, all the combines MMOs will be happy if they have half the NA market after 1 year of D&Donline is launched, prepared to be converted oh silly HERETICS!

Cyric,  all tremble in your presence, savior of the WorldS, please show them a tiny part of your wisdom by letting us spread in that silly world known as ''Eberon''!  image  The Warforgeds would prove a valuable asset to your temples!

PS: Roma Victor look nice, but it is a historical MMO, and been an historian myself, I can tell you it start many leagues behind when it come to a hobby.  It is focused on PvP, it lose most of NA right away, not that we dont want PvP, but we dont want to HAVE to PvP...but listen to the vocals NA PvPers if you want.  In all my RL friends, only 2 like enforced PvP...which is 1 more then those liking enforced raiding...still, they are minorities.

PPS: Most D&D fans are not aware of the Greatness of Cyric however and they are extremely quiets fellows, matures & all!  Dont assume them to even come online, they rather...play D&D elsewhere!  image

Unfortunately this game will fall flat on its face. Any worthwhile pvp game gets overrun with griefers and farmers. In turn they lose subscribers and in turn they nurf the game to get customers back. If they do not nurf, they lose the customers and the game becomes a deadzone.

Hopefully it does make it, would be nice to see it. But in all actuallality it will probably be just another nice failure.

dont forget.. Roma Victor is run by people. This is a good thing. Otherwise machine/evil robot-like big name companies would be running it.

I played eve online.  Its the same thing as SWG.  It mixes invulnerable NPC buildings with nearly invulnerable player built buildings that serve no other purpose other then a money sink.  That game has a ganking problem because everyone has to pass through a small warp gate orrifice that is easilly camped by gamers borred out of their mind.

I cant wait to get in this game and start helping my guild to achieve power(roman royalist alliance) and own my own horse ranch

  • GlamderingGlamdering Member Posts: 56

the game CANNOT lose subscribers, simply because there is no subscription (can't have subscribers if there is no subscription) Although the game is open PvP legions AND Praetorians WILL patrol Roman cities and territories, and if you do end up mindlessly killing people and happen to get killed by someone else eventually elysium will NOT be a pleasent experience. PvP is risky in this game, if you die you have to travel through the afterlife to actually get back to the game, pvpers will have a harder time in the afterlife than peaceful people, there ARE penalties for constantly killing people. Oh, and if an ally of your guild/guild member (NPC or PC) sees someone killing you that person goes onto a wanted list (if a roman sees someone kill another roman that person is added onto the wanted list of all romans) as a result NPC guards of that guild (or in the case of romans, all Roman NPCs) will attempt to kill you/charge you alot for products. Basically, as long as you stay in public places or deep in roman territory you should be safe, Barbarians are probably ideal for PvPers, and Romans more ideal for politicians/people that don't actually want to always fight.

oh, once again, graphics options are on low/off in the screenshots, the high detail graphics seem nice

This game most certainly will NOT be huge like WoW or even EQ2. What we can hope for is that it attracts a nice core of dedicated players. Eve Online has shown that this can work very well, for the people who like an indepth, mature and rather unforgiving playing experiance.

I didn't even have to read past the first page.

When you play this, all I can say is look for the 100 powergamers around every corner. Also, this would be great for say, a speedhack? invisi-hack?

  • MattiusMattius Member Posts: 167

I know somebody said the graphics havent been cranked up yet, but mmm given that there forcasting release date of Q2 2005 (basically now isnt it? :) then those graphics are a worry. With games like WoW, L2 and Eq2, players are spoilt for eye candy - thats gonna turn people off from the very start. You can have the worlds greatest mechanics...ppl like eye candy. They dont spend hundreds on a graphics card for nothing.

Also the fact you can buy as much virtual coin as your rl wallet desires is a concern. The fact you can do this in nearly any MMO atm is true, but here its coming from the company, its legal, tolerated, and from the companies point of view - highly desirable. Sorta like what SOE is doing now. (Not sure how thats working out for them)

Can't see any room for casual players either in this game...looks like a hardcore zone, pity really cause there aint much around for casuals. Dont say WoW either...cause once you get to 60, its DEFINATELY not a casual player game. I spose Guild Wars is a good option atm.

The variety in tradeskills impresses me, lets hope those skills are genuinely useful and desirable by the players in general and arent just there to say "We have a tradeskill system! (but the truth is 90% is pointless)".

I like the setting, and definately like the fact its skills based and not lvl based..im sick of strictly class & lvl based games. Sod rerolling a character all the time.

Overall it could be pretty cool, but its gonna take a major push to take on the heavy weights. Personally whether it has 50k or 500k subs doesnt concern me as much as if there are enough ppl on in my timezone...I havent read any server details yet..

Im a beta tester on RV and yes the graphics do suck but they are functional and will be improved. Sensibly the devs are getting the game to work 1st. However I havent had a lot of time to test the game which is a pain.

What I have seen has a lot of potential. Thats all I can say really.

-PvP as it was meant to be, as it is in real life.  If you want that land, you gotta take it from the other guy.
-Real estate that actually means something when you own it.
-Hard core death penalty, you lose what you got when you die, and you can be looted by thieves.

I dont even know where to keep going with this cause its such a drastic change from every other cookie cutter MMORG bore out there.

it sounded great until you got to the last point.

If im going to spend time and effort into making something huge and beefing up my guy i refuse to be crippled because some guy who has 18 hours a day to play the game comes over and pummels my ass into goo.

A moderate Death penalty is fine but most certainly NOT a hardcore one.

Agree. The idea of these things that you can have an army and when you die, you lose everything. It more feels like a job than a game since this game will surely be very frustrating.

While Roma Victor certainly is promising, too many gamers will be anticpating other releases later this year, and heavyweights such as WoW and EQ aren't going to lose many gamers to a niche game. Sure, this game will suceed, but biggest MMORPG? I think not. WoW has over 1.5 million suscribers, alone. Can Roma Victor produce enough servers for that?
