It's funny you say this because until quite recently the game seemed to be getting almost nothing but anticipation. Most people were only worried because of how they've been failed before.
Spec'ing properly is a gateway drug. 12 Million People have been meter spammed in heroics.
Vintage TOR fanboy trying to do the impossible. Not everyone is going to like the game. And mostly everyone will criticize it in some way shape or form. This is an MMO site community. If you really think you wouldn't see criticizing, then you definitely don't belong on sites like these.
People don't have to play the game in order to criticize it. I don't think people realize how just seeing it is really valuable to an opinion. There are certain things you can tell by just seeing a game in action.
on the other hand most normal people who don't have ulterior motives don't hover in an area that don't like. For example, I played Vanguard, I liked the open areas, but the animations, lack of population, graphical glitches, running around forever boring questing, had me leave. You know how many times I still post there? maybe once in the last 3 years!!! Why is it that there are those who like to use fanboy as if it is something negative hover in places they are not interested in? Maybe because their responses have less to do with open discussions and more about negative publicity? maybe? how u like them apples!!! lol
If you don't like the game don't play it, so many people make comments on the game and they haven't played it yet.
Yet most of those that have played it say they liked it.
Thanks Alex
Well first off my response would be. How do you know? How many people who say they like the game have actually played it? How do you know that most people who have played it like it?
Is there some kind of stat tracker? Beyond a few events with limited time I'm fairly certain anyone with "long term" playtime is under an NDA currently. I could say I played it at some show and loved it!! But I've never actually played it... I could say I hate it and you'd say I never played it.. but maybe I am playing it every day.
You started your post with an assumption of fact and no fact to back it up.
Beyond that games are art and art is subjective. 100 million people could tell you they like this game and that its the best game ever. You could be all excited .. buy it when it comes out.. log in and think it was garbage.
Who cares what someone else has to say about a game? Negative or Positive... either YOU are going to like it or you won't. Which is why when I post stuff about games.. I try to make it clear that what I post is just my opinion.
and even if I like a game... it comes acrosed a bit odd to only like posts that agree with my personal feeling. Its rather hard to get a broader point of view if I only want to hear the "positive" things because they basicly agree with my personal view.
I love the various viewpoints on this site. (that's my opinion ;p)
*edit* oh I wanted to say I saw someone implying this Site was like some kind of EvE fanboy site. The only reason I ever came here.. well.. lol.. my forum date can clue that in pretty fast... I play EvE now and again but hardly ever talk about it here.
If you don't like the game don't play it, so many people make comments on the game and they haven't played it yet.
Yet most of those that have played it say they liked it. I'm tired of reading people say they don't like this about the game and they don't like that about it. Stop following the game till one comes out that you like. "Doubt that will happen."
Then I would say to these people well make your own game then. "Not going to happen."
I have been following this game since roumors where coming out of Austin and people where grabbing stuff from biowares garbage. I have been waiting and watching and I'm quite pleased with this game and how it looks and plays.
Soon I will be enjoying this game with many others StarWars fans in Galaxy far far away from these negative fourms.
From all I've seen the Game is going to do well and have a very good fan base.
These are my positive opinons I hope other positive people reply.

I think the simple solution would be...dont read them then.

Sorry but there's nothing that can be done about that. This site is notorious for being filled with negative nancies who get all hot and bothered that the newest game isn't being catered to them. They haven't realized that the industry has changed since 2004 and players will no longer tolerate boring and tedious grind fests. So anything about this game no matter how small and insignificant is going to get blown out of proportion. It doesn't matter that this game looks to be leaps and bounds better than any game from the past and is moving the genre to something more interesting. They don't care about voice overs, they don't care about player choice that affects your character and dismiss everything else that is bigger or better than what came before it. They are like the old fans of silent pictures who fought tooth and nail to stop sound from getting into movies. Some people are just afraid of progress.
Most people that complain falls into one of these 3 categories:
1. Fans of SWG. These people are upset because they think Star wars games should be like pre-cu SWG and think that Lucasart owns them that.
2. Star wars fans that thinks TOR is messing up the IP. They actually have some point, applying general MMO mechanics to a IP like that isn't without problems. The focus on gear, looting and the holy trinity doesn't fit perfect in the genre and some fans are upset because of that.
3. Fans of released or unreleased games that are scared that TOR will become the next Wow. Not that complaining helps the least but that never stopped people. A new Wow would not be great for the genre, the best would be if a few different games splitted on the top instead so not all games were copies of eachother like they have been the last few years.
Of course there are a few people that can't stand the graphics for estetical reasons as well, but they are a minority.
I hope this game will be really fun to play long term but we just have to wait and see. As a old SW fan I wish they had made the mechanics a little more customized to fit the IP better but that isn't gonna happen. This game do deserve a chance and I will try it, if it is fun enough I will sub to it... If not then there are other games releasing.

There is a differance between "Graphics" and "Asthetics"
This game has really good graphics, but the Asthetics is AMAZING!

Right because the old 6 year old stand by of raid, BG, heroics that every main stream game uses ISN'T a grind fest or stale old hat these days. I think you need to give your hard on for SWG vets a rest and wake up to the fact that quite a few of the people bitching about this game aren't oldschool MMO vets but part of the new blood that are sick of modern MMOs following a similar template to the games they started with. I agree quite a bit of criticism about this game has been unfair, but not all of it. I think you need to stop letting your prejudices blind you to the fact that even the newer players are tired of very similar games with a few neat and new bells and whistles. And whether you guys like it or not, they have just as much right to voice their opinions as you do.
"Gypsies, tramps, and thieves, we were called by the Admin of the site . . . "
There are many many visitors to this forum who basically want to "Stick it to the man" they all played Pre NGE Starwars galaxy, they all tried Wow but quit at level 10 (despite knowing its intricacies inside out), every last one of them will tell you that a triple A sandbox is the future of MMOs and yet will happily trash games like Arch Age. The fact is this is a place of negativity, the silent majority who will play SW ToR and probably love it dont often voice their opinions here because frankly they dont care to.
SW ToR will be a success it will be a good solid MMO which does a lot of things that other games did well but it will do them all in one place and add a story to them and a bioware narrative. A few people here cant accept that and want to lable it as vaporware or a failure but and I dont need a crystal ball for this, they will be wrong.
I still find it funny that you have some people still hiding behind this is a place for discussion and if you don't want that then just leave. Yes, this is a web site about MMORPG's. Yes, each game here has a forum for discussion. The problem i'm seeing is that, you have some people who just can't be happy with certain mmo's that they are not interested in.
Why must some people feel like every new game that is coming out, they must have an opinion on it. I couldn't care less about EVE's incarna or even about GW2, AA or TERA. I do find TSW to be interesting, but i have not posted once in that forum.
I really feel like some people are just suffocating the genre in general, by trying to make every game be what they want it to be. Little secret. I drive a toyota, but really want a rolls royce. No matter what i do, it will always be what it will be and nothing more. The same can be said for every mmorpg.
TOR will be what it was created to be, nothing more. You can accept this and move on to another game that suits your playstyle or not. There's no need to try and convice other gamers to see things in a particular way that fits another's playstyle. There's really no need to continue bashing and moan about a certain system that games have that doesn't fit into what is deemed fun.
Don't like a traditonal mmorpg that has upgraded combat, crafting, story, companions, VO and moral choice systems, find one that you do like and go there. It would be more benificial to give feedback to a game's community that has systems that is pointed in the direction you're heading, than in one you could care less about.
Now if you just don't care about this and are just trolling here for jokes and such, then you can be labeled as a douchbag.
Back last September, I started a thread which went on forever with a theory that the negative puplicity is only going to help SWTOR. I still believe this to be the case. It has attacted so much attention and controversy it pulls people from under rocks that will try the game regardless of their posts here. I bet you that even some of them won't admit that they will end up liking it lol. I'd be more worried about the pedistal that this site has GW2 on, because the only place for that game to go is down if they don't meet their rather lofty expectations.

I love how blind people let themselves be. My whole Vaporware kick is nothing more than a humorous eye poke at the ludacris and shrill level of fanboi and hater hysterics and pants wetting that has surrounded this game since the day it was announced.

The best thing about this site is that if none of the people that gripe about this game dont play it, bioware will not miss them period. Maybe a 100 peole that post on this forum bash the game. Their monetary contribution will not be missed in the grand scheme of things.
100 regular posters thats rather high number:P
More like 50 hehe
Well i actually dont know how many but if you know that millions gonne play games like TOR a few mmoprg.com posters that are negative about game wont do much harm.
I don't speak for every post there is, and I personally actually look forward to this game, but there are actually a number of people that aren't idle complainers. Some people actually want to be heard because they have their own opinions about things and they want to discuss them. I just want to let you know, the "if you don't like it, don't use it" thing has never ever worked, because it's as ridiculous or more ridiculous than complaining about the thing in question.
TOR will be a pretty average game. im calling it right now. might sell a lot initially, but the subs will settle around 300k after a few months. this fall, better RPG's are coming (Skyrim, Deus Ex) and a ton of other amazing titles (Arkham City, BF3) all with many hours of gameplay. i seriously doubt i will be even tempted to buy TOR...and then GW2 will come so...

You do realize that games like Skyrim are not MMOs, right? Also, why can't people play both? I'll be buying a new computer eventually just for SWTOR and Skyrim and hopefully GW2 it ends up to be a good game. Also, since you are here watching these forums, I'd put money on the fact that you will end up buying SWTOR...especially if the reviews continue to generally move in a positive direction from last year which they are.

Can we be realistic? Using your logic, I would have to be an architecht, a plumber, an engineer, an electrician, a novelist, a lawyer, a politician, a college professor, an interior decorator, a computer and networking engineer, a comedian, an actor, a screen writer, a movie producer, and hundreds of other professions.
Actually I only have to be one. A consumer.
That said....I actually like the 'look' of the game. I just hope we have some decent character creation.
"Don't like it, don't play it" yeah right - well-conceived. And that's why you open a thread? To give your single oppinion that you don't give a damn of what other people think - and you obviously like SW:TOR (because it looks good...)?
Of course it is YOUR oppinion what you do like and what you do not like. It's your personal right to do so!
But YOU have to accept aswell that there are tons of people out there who DO NOT LIKE what YOU LIKE.
Same goes for me, same goes for every other individual person. Simple as that. Amen.
And the major issue why most people complain about SW:TOR is obviously that this game will lack of ideas. We saw it all. It's a singleplayer story-game wrapped into a conventional MMORPG.

Sad thing is most single player games today have ok to good AI for the stuff you fight .... ToR seems to be lacking this in spades.
Also once someone has played through the story on their main toon and maybe even played some alts.... what is there to do end-game to keep people playing beside chasing the gear carrot and running dungeons/raiding over and over?
Sad to see so much money wasted on this supposed Starwars mmo when it is lacking on so many fronts.
For what it's worth KOTOR 3 with multiplayer = SW:ToR.... yay!!
Edit:
I've watched over 4hrs of game play videos showing many elements of the game, saw all the E3 videos... and SW:ToR does not impress me at all as an MMO. Take off the beer goggles people and wake up,
ArcheAge will shit all over ToR.

I'm the same way. I can't stand EVE, I didn't like PRE-CU SWG, I have no interest in Darkfall, GW2 etc.. but you won't catch me any where near those forums. What would be the point? To say that I don't like it or I'm not interested in playing it when it comes out? Who cares?

An even better analogy would be saying that "I like Burger King therefore every burger joint should be more like Burger King and less like McDonalds. I also have every right to go into a McDonalds and shout to the moon about it." The jaded can deny it all they want, but that is how some of them come off around here.

It would also be beneficial to take any concerns about a game to that game's website where a dev actually has a chance to see it. But then again that is operating under the assumption that the person in question has actual concerns and isn't here just to whine for the sake of whining.
Now if you just don't care about this and are just trolling here for jokes and such, then you can be labeled as a douchbag.

This is one of those pathetic posts I just can't let pass. It's posts like these that create big problems in the MMO community.
Fanboys of a particular game bring this point up all the time. "Oh, those people won't be missed in the long run!". There's two things that you pretty much say here. One, people that end up not buying the game or don't play it won't be missed. Obviously this is correct. Considering Bioware is mostly a great developer and will make buttloads off this MMO since they've created blockbuster franchises before. But the second thing is that you're condoning bad developer behavior. We won't be missed because we won't contribute to the millions of dollars that Bioware is pretty much already guaranteed. You act like you're getting a cut of the profit that Bioware is going to make. This kind of attitude is what brought MMOs down. If the community doesn't challenge the developers, then the developers will create games for the money, not for the fans. As you can tell, it's been like this for a few years now.
If you support crappy behavior from developers than you'll get crappy games. So if TOR comes out and you don't like it, so you stop playing, just remember that your money doesn't matter in the long run. Because according to you, that makes it alright.

What donjuanagain said is the simple truth, the complainers that do not buy this game will not be missed. It is the same for every game, truth be told. It's too bad that you can't see the absolute truth of that.
As for "challenging the developers", how do you really expect to do that in THESE forums? Do you really think the Devs are avidly reading these forums? Somehow I doubt it concidering that they have "OFFICIAL" forums to get recommendations and critique from. Not to mention the beta testers they have and the metrics being produced through creative programing and tracking of the game.
So basically the people that are complaining on these forums are doing little more than throwing temper tantrums and mostly being ignored for it. When people don't ignore them, they just make them look foolish with some easy evidence to refute most of the claims anyways.
"If half of what you tell me is a lie, how can I believe any of it?"

In my opinion there isn´t much negativity yet. People liked or disliked the goods and bads of the presentations, dev talks, trailers.
Generally it becomes more negative around a game´s release, when the ugly things become apparent.

There Is Always Hope!
I love how blind people let themselves be. My whole Vaporware kick is nothing more than a humorous eye poke at the ludacris and shrill level of fanboi and hater hysterics and pants wetting that has surrounded this game since the day it was announced.

100 regular posters thats rather high number:P
More like 50 hehe
Well i actually dont know how many but if you know that millions gonne play games like TOR a few mmoprg.com posters that are negative about game wont do much harm.
Im one of those....
duh...
trailers do not match the actual gameplay.
To me the game looks great but too bad I cant say the same about the combat.
