Yeah, no one knows. So don't let anyone tell you when until the game devs make it public. You'll know when that is when these forums all but explode with topics such as this.
I think the summer is too early. I'm expecting a date more around October, but wouldn't be surprised if it came out on 11.11.11 just because of how unique that date is! : p

Yes, that is what I thought untill someone reminded me of Skyrim having claimed that date already V_V
I just wanted to confirm. Release date is in Summer 2011?
Kind of. It has the most chance of releasing between July-September. Small chance of slipping into Q3 and an outside chance (The kind of chance 2012 doomsday will actually happen) of 2012.
"Star Wars: The Old Republiccould potentially miss this year and launch in January 2012, EA revealed on its earnings call yesterday, but regardless of when the game finally ships EA remains supremely confident in BioWare's first-ever MMO."

Today at its investor relations conference call Electronic Arts confirmed that it expects Star Wars: The Old Republic to ship this year with an "outside possibility of a January launch." Unfortunately, the company declined to provide an official release date, explaining that it did not want to "tip off the competition."

From the EA conference meeting (quotes from it from Darthhater):
We give it a ship date range of fiscal Q2 to fiscal Q3 for Star Wars, and so Star Wars shipping earlier, ie Q2 vs. Q3 is factored into the 90 cent upper range
I read this like chances that it'll be released in the period July-September are most likely, unless from testing and feedback some more time is needed. But based on this and that site that claimed to have an inside source and said it'd be September a few months ago, I'd guess that their current projected release date is most likely to be in September.
The ease with which predictions are made on these forums: Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."
I just hope they give us a date at E3. Because at first I was thinking they were going to release it before Mass Effect 3 so I assume the release would have been late summer or early fall. But if I remember correctly, Mass Effect 3 was delayed until next year. I'm pretty sure I remember the devs saying they had something BIG planned for E3... but they were vague as always as to what it even concerned. I can only hope SWTOR, they seemed to have safe guarded this game so well it's actually interesting to take a step back and see just how little we know about it. A summer release sounds too soon though... June 7th can't come any faster. But I guess they never said what day at E3 Bioware would be announcing their Big News.

That would make sense since the bluray versions of the movies and the book are coming on September if I'm not wrong....still a very optimistic date tho.
I think it's a bizarre idea - that there would be some kind of open beta.
The main allure of the game - single-player story-driven campaign.
What possible reason could there be for developers to give it to people for free? If I've played through 2-3 storylines which are of interest for me in an open beta, why would I ever buy the game?
I'm thinking any time between October and December 2011 as that is a huge video game release window in the industry and is great for holiday sales. Just my speculation of course based on the videos we've seen, the info we have. I have a huge feeling we'll know something more definitive come E3 and the other game shows.
BioWare's sci-fi MMORPG should launch between July and December, says EA Games president; EA CFO says there's an "outside" chance for further delay.
Today, EA Games president Frank Gibeau teased the debut of Star Wars: The Old Republic. The executive called the sci-fi massively multiplayer online role-playing game's launch the "biggest event of the year," and EA's earnings report said the game is "scheduled to launch in the second half of calendar 2011."
While Gibeau seemed confident, some of his fellow executives were less so. "Although we fully anticipate launching Star Wars: The Old Republic [between July and December], the low end of our guidance range assumes the outside possibility of a January [quarter] launch," said CFO Eric Brown. (Emphasis added.) Out of caution, EA's fiscal year 2012 release calendar doesn't list the game at all.
Think Rift had the right of it with how they released their game, teasing you with betas for months, working with and listening to the players, having a solid release date that guilds could work, recruit, and organize around... Giving you the information upfront, you knew what you were signing up for b/c any1 who wanted to try the game had tons of opportunities to do just that before release... It worked people into a frenzy and had the most successful launch I was ever a part of.
Not saying it was the greatest thing since sliced bread or anything, but I was in since cb1 and wasn't disappointed in the least when it came out because by the time feb. came around I had already come to trust Trion and see the game as being stable if not as innovative as I had hoped for...
I can just see Bioware annoucing a ship date w/ <1 month to go and no open beta and... yeah I'll buy it, but there won't be that build up or excitement for it that Rift had and I think launch day will suffer for it. BW has a good rep but... promises can only go so far and let's face it, we're a cynical bunch when it comes to these things and the Star Wars crowd has already been failed once. Also, what was with them at E3 and how it would "funny" to keep us in the dark - as if we're not already pissed off about them pushing back the release how many times now?

No one knows yet. If they try to tell you otherwise, they are basing it off rumors and speculation.
Stay tuned.

Summer is almost here. Looking forward to this game.

An honest review of SW:TOR 6/10 (Danny Wojcicki)

They said spring 2011 in the past but it seems they have been much too optimistic.
Personally I prefer it if they release the game when its done, and not a day earlier.
Edit: Typo
I'm with you on that. Rushed games 99% of the time suck.
That would make sense since the bluray versions of the movies and the book are coming on September if I'm not wrong....still a very optimistic date tho.
It's clearly vaporware.
Open beta + 5-6 months.
So, my guess is open beta will start fall 2011. That will give you a release date around spring 2012.

There would be no open beta.
they've always had a soft approach to release dates and a soft approach to release delays
I want to own property too
I should hope they want to get it released before the world ends in 2012.

If I were in the business to sell games, I would release the 1st week of December or the Tuesday before Black Friday (in November).
Christmas gifts for all the children.
Plus, the general public is in a SPEND SPEND SPEND mode at that time. It would make sense financially for BioWare.
They should be careful though... playing the "Launch" game with Diablo III may not be wise
Blah, what to do for the next 6 months?
Actually one of Ea's partners let slip that theyre aiming for november release.

Star Wars: The Old Republic should launch this year - EA

BioWare's sci-fi MMORPG should launch between July and December, says EA Games president; EA CFO says there's an "outside" chance for further delay.
Today, EA Games president Frank Gibeau teased the debut of Star Wars: The Old Republic. The executive called the sci-fi massively multiplayer online role-playing game's launch the "biggest event of the year," and EA's earnings report said the game is "scheduled to launch in the second half of calendar 2011."
The Old Republic should launch between July and December…but there's a "outside" chance it could launch in the January quarter.
In his comments, Gibeau wouldn't reveal the MMORPG's exact launch date. He said the reason for that was twofold. First, EA doesn't want to "tip off the competition," a thinly veiled reference to Blizzard Entertainment, which develop and publishes World of Warcraft. Second, he said that developer BioWare Austin wanted more data from the game's beta, which EA expects will have 1 million participants, since 1.5 million people have already signed up. EA has said once released, The Old Republic only needs 500,000 subscribers to turn a profit, although analysts are predicting it should have at least 1 million subscribers out of the gate.
