Now you have an outlet, a particularly brutal one, in the form of a game that has undergone much improving and patching and is probably one of the most beautiful available to date. Let's see how many will actually have the balls to hang and how many will run to the forums crying because they're getting ganked and can't accomplish anything.

    Go. Frolick, decapitate, be merry!

     This!

I see a lot of complaining about this or that rule, but really, no game is going to do everything the way any one person wants.  If this server ends up empty and lifeless, it will be another nail in the PvP niche coffin.   I have nothing against PvP players getting a game they like, but the endless wailing and complaining does tend to grate.

I personally think that niche is smaller than many think.  Their continuing failure will just reinforce this presumption in developers' eyes as well.

If you are holding out for the perfect game, the only game you play will be the waiting one.

If you all have same mindset it won't matter that your ganked you win or lose thats all what matters a true FFA PVPER dont whine and cry when they lose and sure its a small nich group that are strong enough to endure this but this kind of servers is only thing i play mmo for.

That's not the point. A loot, FFA PvP game should allow you some chance to escape a gank, otherwise you might as well just auto-kill your character. This game's systems give you no chance and as such wont work.

Can you "port" away from gankers?

Well, I glanced over it but there's one line I agree with:

"There is lots of talk amongst players, and MMO veterans in particular about how they often feel a little neglected by an industry that now has much more mainstream appeal."

YES. I feel that all the freakin' time.

Also, I've been meaning to give AoC a try, I probably will soon.

uhm when does it go f2p again?

I'm thinking their going in the right direction, but for me full loot is the PvP "money shot".  I'd spend a few bucks a month to be able to have a few slots to "Insure" some items if they offered it, but 1 or 2 slots at the most should be offered.  Hey, its a buisness. But I guess it's not to be. My friends and I will give it a go. It's a beautiful game, and a great genre plus it's now FTP. Why the hell not?

ROFL you nailed it on the head.  Again we see little intellect coming from yet another failed corporate meeting of people trying to figure out how to get some more cash out of Age of Conan - the game that should have taken Dark Age of Camelot's concepts to an entirely new level - and yet failed even more miserably than Warhammer.

You guys in these forums are brutal. (mmorpg). I think most here love to see companys fail rather than succeed. Cryptic not included, die a fiery death.. How about some positive things that AoC does, and go from there. Give ideas how the PvP hardcore server can succeed.

More EQ/WoW/DAoC/whatever style pvp game?  No thanks.  Sticking to Darkfall, the one and only unique pvp game on the market.

I know back when I tried AoC the PvP servers were not well populated...

At the start of the game they were as populated as the pve servers, nowadays they are nearly empty though. Mostly due to the idiotic decisions made by Funcom over the years, some of those are being reversed for the new server though.

Ahh yes, the old "White Sands Gank-fest" is set to make a comeback. I can remember the good old days, back at release, when you could PvP in white sands.

Many a noob was welcomed to the server, with a new arse-hole ripped asunder by your local @$$hat, 13 year old, gank-fanatic, while take their first steps into the zone. Well, at lease the respawn point is near by.

Its a server designed for a specific niche group, a great idea in my book.

I was a former Mordred server player in DAOC and I loved that ruleset.  I always thought Blizzard would one day spend some of that cash they generate to make alternate rules servers (like most older MMORPG's used to do) but it never happened.

I hope this server is a big success so that other MMORPG makers restart the trend of making alternate rules servers in their worlds.

The only good feature I see is that is a new server and no transfers; this is far from hardcore, there is already a PvP server; I guess many will just roll in that server and stay in Tortage for the ganking and lulz. I really don't see a reason why to level up in another PvP server. We all know it's going to become a ghost town soon.

  • RamblebrainRamblebrain Member Posts: 52

    This sounds good! :D

  • ThalantyrDSLThalantyrDSL Member UncommonPosts: 35

You guys are completely missing the point. No-one cares if the server is 'a ghost town' in 3-6 months. The point is that we'll be able to start on an even level. There's nothing worse than coming into a game when 3/4 of the server is level capped, it's boring. This way there is world-PvP from L20 to L80 and that's what most games forget these days.

The other thing you're missing is that people who will play on this server don't care about 'ganking'. There's already a PvP server where you can flag and run to safe areas. This will be about those who DON'T want that setup, and are usually not whiners. I have no issues being ganked by a player twice my level. It's about zone control and guild wars... and not in any of this setup battleground rubbish.

Again, my hat is off to them for giving this a go. It's already attracted the attention from a truckload of PvP heavy people I know, so I'm looking forward to some fun for a few months.

Once the server dies we'll all leave together with a big smile on our faces :)

@ Zeno - Darkfall is not the only unique PvP game. It's a macro-levelling, afk-levelling, end-game only PvP game. Eve Online (0.0 sec) & Shadowbane are the two PvP games that remain at the top of the list.

Honestly, that is the problem with these type of servers.  There will be a few dozen players that race head in the first week, and then they will camp the low level zones for the next two months until nobody else even attempts to roll a character on the server because it is not fun not being able to advance your character or do anything except being a sheep for those dozen players.

This is all about marketing.. it is similar to the very first set of pvp rules they put in a few months after launch.  They hyped it and marketed it... but anyone who sat down and actually read the ruleset and had played other games knew it was going to fail.   Funcom = marketing, not game design.

If I recall correctly, the penalty system will still be in place if you gank people way lower than your own level.

Shrug. Hate AoC all you like (from your continuous anti-AoC posts, it seems you do), but for a lot of people this is exactly what they were looking for to boost their AoC gaming fun. Some people like WoW, some people like AoC, just give it a rest, and accept that different MMO gamers have different tastes and things that work for them to give them their gaming fun.

So are they getting rid of the 'fazing' or 'channels' or whatever FC call them? Kind of pointless if you are in WhiteSands6 and the guy you are chasing is in WhiteSands2. Dynamic zones don't make a good pvp environment. Oh that and the see saw balancing of classes, several are more messed up than at launch.

i just cant wait for the server to be launched

Pretty sure it was the vocal minority, prepare to see servers almost solely populated by 4 classes since the class Vs class balance still sucks. I dont get the obsession with open world PvP, they have too many classes and the game was always built around Group PvP.

Whitesands will go back to being a gankfest like it was at release.

I seriously applaud Funcom for attempting something a little different to appeal to the PVP minded players.  Ever since DAoC I have always played every MMO I have been in as a PVP centered game, even though PVP has always been a tacked on addition with very little thought by the developers.

I have never, however, been a fan of unfair ganking.  I don't think level 40 players should be able to gank level 1-10 zones all day just because they like to be jerks.  When you enter a zone and there are a bunch of players your level fighting and ganking that is just good PVP fun, but when it is high level players ganking people that can't fight back, it is just unfair and abusive.  It takes the fun out of the game and should never be an option.

The fact that this new server will not have factions, but will in a sense be everyone versus everyone sounds good in theory, yet in practice the most perniciously abusive players will simply sit around all day ganking other players who can't fight back.  They don't want a fair fight.  They don't want to have a chance of actually losing.  That is not fun to them.  What is fun is squishing lowbie players like bugs all day, even if they get no in-game rewards out of it.

A server like this would only be appealing to me if it encourages players to fight people their own level and punishes those that sit around all day ganking people 70 levels below them.  At least then you could expect REAL PVP and not just a lowbie gank fest.

Real PVP is not lowbie ganking.  Players that do that aren't PVPers, they are pussies afraid of a fair fight.

Can't wait to have the time to give this a spin!

AoC was awesome even on release (IMO), but after waiting the game for several years, I only had two weeks to play the darn thing before I had to afk for a year! When I made my comeback to AoC I still thought that it was the best MMORPG I've ever played. It was because the hardcore(ish) gameplay and visuals. It was a game for the adult.

I hope they've brought us even more hardcore with this new update.
