Hmm, wasn't that like a few months ago? I mean, 100k concurrent players with 15 servers would mean like 7000 players simultaneously online... on each server, for each of all 15 servers.
I don't know, even if the TERA servers would be better and larger than servers from any other MMO, somehow I find it doubtful that this kind of figures currently apply

Actually TERA servers fits over 10000 concurrent players so I have no trouble believing they would merge servers in order to have around 7k - 8k concurrent players on every server .

Besides, 10k concurrent players that's possible on a server is still a pretty good feat

Yep the problem was the endgame content but I wouldn't worry abot that because we will be getting the lvl 58 patch at launch and we may even get the lvl 60 patch if it's out by then.
Well when you gather the info about the game, and come to know that even the pvp system was inexistant at korean launch, i think it talks alot, especially for korean since every single of their game have very strong pvp features. Empty shell games was a development trick that just didn't work because people are expecting complete games when playing an mmo, they are not expecting empty shell how much nice this shell is. Combat + world is not enough to make a mmo, even if those are the coolest ever. I guess the lesson they got with lineage2 in the west wasn't taken too seriously for them.
It wasn't only PvP there wasn't much to do in general but the lvl 58 patch has added lots of great things to the game and the lvl 60 patch will add more.

I agree with you that many players probably quit due to the lack of pvp. Though throught the update patches to come, many pvp features will be added, so pvp shouldnt be a problem later on.
I really think the K-Tera population got bored cause they burnt through the content too quickly. Most will probably return when more endgame content is added along with all of the pvp content. I am really curious how the server vs server play will work out, as well as server invasions.

The 100k number was from an interview on April 20, back when there were still 37 servers. In the article they also state the highest number of concurrent players was 160k spread over 37 servers.
The article goes on to state that, "Of course, they [Bluehole] recognized their launch had a few faults. They felt there was a lack of substantial endgame content, that it lacked the convenience an MMO should have, and it had a weak story, though they were most adamant that they had poor communication with their fans."
its korea , they want to grind 24/7 on the same spot for their lvl up , that not in tera.
tera is much more for the western audience , fast leveling , no ultra low drop chance in instances.
its more a wow with nice content , and the focus on pvp with the next update.
i m playing a lvl 51 mystic in korea , and its by far the best asian mmo i playe.
i don t like grinding , i don t like leveling and i don t want to do an instance for 5 hours and the endboss drops nothing .. HI aion ..
with the next update we will have more meaningful pvp , more pve , more balance etc.
aion is for korea , tera is for eu/na
Well, finally a post from someone who really knows. What I wonder is....
Sounds like the game released very unfinished, missing levels, quests and you now mention PVP improvements on the way. I could see where all of that might hinder a game's long term appeal in any market, not just Korea.
As for this game being more for a western audiance, with faster leveling, no grinding, I wonder, what goal are you racing to?
Is the end game your typical dungeon grind for gear (sounds like it is). Someone else mentioned a castle sieging/territory control feature, is that in the game, or on the way?
I'm really not intereted in a standard themepark MMOPRG but more and more that sounds like what TERA is turning out to be.

Although I'm not that big a fan of mmosite.com, in the past they came with news that had a sensationalist vibe especially since they didn't mention any sources or it was news that I could only find on that site. Interesting detail though, I saw that they referred to class imbalance as a reason for dissatisfaction and players quitting, is it that major a problem?
As for the other news, the Aion competition part and lack of content, those were indeed mentioned elsewhere as well.
As with former times with mmosite, I wonder again from what source mmosite got its info from regarding the 40% decrease in player numbers and the loss of 1/3 earnings, also this time I'm sceptic about their numbers throwing around without sources.

mmosite does get the gist of what several of the problems which koreans are complaining about are. With regards to the class imbalance issues, they list Lancers and priests as the key classes with issues, when it is actually warriors (the other tanking class) and priests. There have been a series of patches which have worked to address this. Giving priests more abilities and changing warrior abilities. This can kinda be seen through the various translated patch notes which you can find below. The ones listed miss some patches, and don't have the most recent notes for the content update and on.
In regards to the numbers decrease, that is probably based off of the 160k and 100k numbers which were discussed earlier.
Hangame (the korean publisher) had a 33% increase in revenue in Q1 2011 as compared to Q4 of last year. They did lower the figures for the expected earnings from Tera by about 1/3.
well.. if the combat system is anything remotely like DCUO then personally i wouldnt touch it with a bargepole.. the drop off could be due to the lack of content, with 'surges' once the content is added... given its failing popularity there, and the type of combat used in the game.. i'd lay fairly heavy odds on it really not doing all that well here in the west either.. DCUO for instance, is virtually dead, its probably only the PS3 guys who are keeping it running.. and how long will that last...
its korea , they want to grind 24/7 on the same spot for their lvl up , that not in tera.

yeah you re right the game was released and unfinished in korea with nearly no endgame content besides some dungeons and pvp arenas and battlegrounds, a few open world bosses, and the politics system.
it was a eq2 like release , u could do a few things but , there were not many features that can keep you for several months or years.
now with the new update we have many many more dungeons , we have rated battlegrounds and arenas , with guild ranking system etc , we have many more rare world bosses to fight ( pretty awesome on pvp servers )
all classes have some new abilities and balacing was made and their are still working to improve.
right now on the korean test server , they lowered the crit dmg by LOL 70 % .. so there are no one hits anymore , and combats becomes more intesive.
yeah its for the western audiance , leveling is super fast , you only need 5 hours to lvl 20 for example with a m8.
and u can reach max lvl in 2-3 weeks easily.
with there is no grind i mean , there is not the typical asian / korean xp/lvl grind , like its was in aion classic... for me this is grinding and its horrible.
yeah endgame is now dungeon grind , items , achievments , battlegrounds , arena + rankings AND with the next update which we will get in NA/EU we have guild vs guild and server vs server , improved politics system and many more features.
Castle Siege etc comes in the next update where tera reaches his final lvl , 60 , that is another part of the politics system.

yeah, you're probably right about the 160k and 100k as being the source of mmosite, but basing it on a peak concurrent users number I still find a bit dubious.
As for the other link, eh, my Korean isn't great, actually nonexistent and what google translate brews from it makes me even doubt my english understanding
I'm curious to see though how TERA will develop in the months ahead, if it would keep on shrinking which personally I'd find worrisome and a bad sign, or if their actions and content additions can turn the ship.
One positive, the US/EU market will get a more polished, complete and content filled product at their launch than the Koreans had.

Something like 100 hours, or 150 hours maybe?
can t really see , i hit lvl 50 after a month playing , i didn t play hardcore ( 12-16 hours a day ) had several days where i was not playing.
i only wrote down how much it takes from 1-20 and from 20-30.
cause this is the level range where u need to power to get a good distance between u and the rest of the server so that u can play without any problems the higher levels.
first time i lvld my sorc to 20 it took my 9 hours.
from 20 to 30 i took 26 hours.
so about 1 and a half day you can except to hit 30 if your are new to the game , maybe a bit faster when its in english.
2nd time i lvld my mythic together with a friend he played zerker.
i knew every quest by heart and where to go , we killed monster fast and completed quests faster.
after 5 1/2 hours we hit lvl 20 , and after 19 hours we hit 30.
