Aye, the server crashes suck, but there really are relatively few bugs. Granted, more might come to light as the servers stay up for longer, but so far most things seem to work like they should.
A big thing with this game when it comes to big updates is that there's a wierd combination of batshit-crazy game-design (and I say that as a fan) and bugs... take the new horse control system: it's clearly being affected by the gene bug that is causing crazy-big horses (since individual horse control stats are governed by genes), but since horses are now supposed to act more erratic by design (for most horses), it's tough to get a feel for what is what.
But I digress: point is, the things that are being decried as "broken" (like genes and mount control in general) aren't even that bad now, we're looking at a shitload of exageration. Of course 'exageration' implies there is something to be exagerated, and there are indeed bugs in this update. Just not as widespread or severe on the whole as people are wanting to make it.
It makes sense though, people are grumpy because there's a bunch of cool shit on that server and the damn thing won't let us play for as long as we'd like.
There will always be those who claim all is well. In this case however, due to the free trial I actually did spend a lot of time at least trying to play the game. Here I will detail some of the "few bugs" I personally experienced:
1. Tried to load the game from my DVD. Unable to connect to server (of course I had to go though the whole install process to get to this point though)
2. Downloaded the new launcher/patcher and installed from there. Ended up with something like 1272 file errors (I forget the number but it was a common issue).
3. Used the File Integrity scanner to fix the errors
4. Found out that the Launcher still had the old version (pre dawn) for the File Integrity and I just ruined my install.
5. Deleted game so I could RE-download it again. (OK.. maybe not a bug bug it still deserves a number)
6. Made a character, saved it, then tried to enter game. CRASH
7. Went to options in launcher and turned all down. Loaded game... character was gone.
8. Made new character.. unable to press save or enter button
9. Reloaded game... original character was there again... entered game
10. Enter game. Tutorial tabs on left of screen do not allow me to close them even though it says to press x or press z(I think) and click. I am stuck with open tabs. After yelling for 10 minutes someone says that the tutorial is wrong and you must HOLD Z ) and press X still never works.
11. OK.. closing them actually just minimizes them.. so I have the tabs all across the left side.. still better than open windows. So I folow the directions to shut off the tutorial... but they stay there. Again, after yelling for a few minutes someone says "It's a bug and next time you login you should be fixed"
12. Finally running to Fab in game. Once I get there I see a horse floating in the air. Same for another player. Eventually the horse drops to ground and the player disapears.
13. Start chopping wood. Watch as a "sleeping" player runs past me. Yes. He is laying down. but is moving around. He can even jump in the sleeping position...
14. I crash. Login. Crash. Login. Crash. FInally I am in for a few minutes. Someone is shouting that everytime they use a ticket for an old stabled pet they cause everyone nearby to crash. This is later confirmed in IRC.
15. Decide to try and become a tamer. Make a new character. Go outside to try and tame a pet. Nothing happens. I try for 15 minutes with nothing happening. I give up on my tamer. (I later found out that it only works for horses now due to a bug).
16. Watched with amusement as someone rode by with a 15 foot horse.
Those are the bugs personally experienced by myself in a short time playing. Those are just bugs that a new player sees in his first entry to the game. There are tons of others like Items in house chests are either gone or invisible, you have to be online to be invited as a "House Friend" so you cannot add your own alt characters to your house, cannot mail your alt characters anything, players suiciding over and over again and harvesting themselves as resources. Simply read some of the threads which were previously linked... if they are still there (my guess is they miraculously vanished which of course makes the issue go away too!)
Haven't even looked at cooking yet. Maybe I will try that the next time I decide to give it a go...
Edit to add: Saying things like: Other than the constant crashes every 5 minutes the expansion is good. Is kind of liek saying other than the fact that the plane crashlanded it was a decent flight. Other than dupe bugs (which are rumored from IRC), crash bugs are the worst you can have. As Funkmaster said, once the crashes slow downit's likely that other actual gameplay bugs will surface.

I admire the thoroughness of your re-testing things you already knew to not work.
To bring us back to the original topic, the server has been taken down for a client-side patch.
We have been working pretty much nonstop with the Dawn release.
As you all know we are still a very small team, and so is our testing team. We have had a very long test phase on Dawn, we ironed out all bugs we could find during that period. But we wont be able to cover it as good as when the server get filled with players. Our bug tracker is nowhere full with bugs, compared to previous bugs which we are happy to see.
We have located one of the client crashes many players experience and is building the patch for that at the moment. We also solved the server crash we had since yesterday.
There is also discussion regarding attribute points and size.
This system work as intended now, which it didn't before. The costs for size is working now, hence its taking point from your pool, or simply lowers the size to prevent you going over stat cap. What Dawn brings you is the ability to change size up and down using food. Now you will be able to go up to 2.20 as long as your race allows it to.
Please continue to add bugs in bug tracker, as that's the only place we will look when it comes to bug, NOT on the forums. Player items have gone invisible in player house chests, we will try to patch a fix for this tomorrow, also a guild fix.
Mounts works as following: it can handle a certain amount of actions and then queues them before going through them. Low int mounts will do this slowly, this means if you spam that mount with commands it will end up doing it for a long time, that may seem like its not responding, even it does. We need to further balance this, while that is done we have made all mounts a bit smarter, that allows them to handle commands faster and simultaneous. Whenever you get to learn how this works it will become more clear how you control them. We have also fixed strange size on mounts that comes in this patch we are building now.
So far, they've already significantly improved the stability of the game through the server-side. Hopefully, a client patch will increase stability even more, along with some tweaks some of the systems of the game.
Wow, that's pretty cool how open they are about what's gong on with the server issues and bugs. I remember playing EQ2 at launch, on Faydark server, few days after it opened it crashed, and no word from SOE at all for 2 1/2 days. The server ended up being down for 3 days with no word at all until the very end when they finally acknowledged the server was down, and would come back up in a few hours, of course this was after 3 days it was down.
Still waiting for things to calm down post-Dawn, then will install Trial and give it a go. Best of luck to all who play.

OMG Henrik... why are you even worried about such stupidity^^..?? C'mon dude.. when basic things such as CLOTHING & tailoring isn't even in game..? Nor is the multitude of different type of leather armor (ie: Banded, padded, scaled, studded, etc..). Or, where is all the bucklers, kite, or tower shields..?
Henrik, you cannot touch any part of the game, until the core aspect of the game are all at the same level of depth to the character. Some players don't want to own horses and wqear heavy anything and use magic, or even attack people. We want to do our thing and IF something comes up, then OUR build is built for stealth, agility and poisions. Quick thinking... etc. (er.. roleplaying)

We are still struggling with one client crash that some players are experiencing and we will of course be working nonstop to solve this. So, until we have a fix for this, our support team will be extremely busy so you might experience longer response time!

Haha, I like how they're taking turns with the "still working on it" updates. I'm pretty impressed with their communication as of late though. It does suck that some people are crashing out obviously, but so far SV's pumped out a few hotfixes that fixed most the crashes, anyway (maybe I'm lucky(ish), but the only crashes I've had recently were server crashes)
