Yea, that is right..this game's ratings are getting higher especially after E3 ..I think that event made this game more popular and I must admit that they have wonderful photos and activities that are roused the interest of the gamers out there. They really deserve a high rating..
3rd place is not deserved in my opinion. The community is great and very close which is why they are able to get a flood of people from the forums to come here and rate the game. Noone is asking the players to lie about their experience but the sudden spike of positive comments from existing players who have mostly been there for more than 3 months is the reason why it's getting the rating.
I'm a long time player too but I know it's faults and it certainly doesn't have the content most of the games on the list have. Its strengths are graphics, customer service, and community in that order. It has potential but potential shouldn't put it in the top 3.
A lot of games have vacuuous non-content, endlessly repeatable quests and instances, but that's a false impression. Ryzom handles it much better, just wish there was more and more variety. Still, it does deserve its ranking.

But I suppose Guild Wars deserves #1 spot on MMORPG.com? Guild Wars is a fun game, but its not a MMO. And it certainly doesnt have more content then Ryzom. Tell me what game out right now is better than Saga of Ryzom, and Ill tell you why it sucks.

EQ2 is better than Ryzom.
Well I wont say EQ2 sucks, because I like EQ2. Ryzom though, offers a dee-lite-ful change of pace from the usual games. The world is truly alive, it's just really freaking kewl. I encourage anyone who hasn't tried it to give it a go. Its AMAZING! Free 14 day trial rocks, took about an hour and a bit to download. I actually stopped playing WoW and now Ryzom is the only game I can think about playing, even over Counter-Strike and America's army. Even original Everquest couldn't do that

I did try the trial, and hmm.... lets try to say something nice...... ummm....... errr......... ok, hows this. To me it was very.... pedestrian, meaning.... very average. I didn't make it through 14 days.... after about 3, I didn't see anything worth stickin around for. Think I was doing Matrix Online beta at the time and it was much brighter and shinier, although I didn't buy that one either.
No one can seriously believe that SoR is the 3rd best MMO out there. Look, lets be honest here. The poll that matters is not what a few fans of the game vote for on MMORPG.COM. No, what matters is how people vote with their wallets. EVE online probably has ten times the paying customers that SoR has. And there is a reason for that. Many players just don't find SoR very good after they've played it for awhile, and so they leave.
We can debate this forever, but if SoR can't attract and keep paying customers by the quality of it's gameplay (not this silly hype), then it won't be around at all 12 months from now, poll or no poll.

No, I just think a little more balance is called for, so people reading can get both sides. You must admit, vqly, that those who post here are mostly fans.

Of course people will like what they like, and that's the way it should be. But you know, vqly, the developers of the game really need to hear more voices like mine, and the many others who have quit. Their game is not flourishing. They need to hear more constructive criticism, so that they can be aware of why people are unsatisfied. There is nothing wrong with the fans of the game, but since those who leave are unable to post in the official forum, our voices aren't heard anymore. Mostly the devs keep hearing from the people who are satisfied, as the numbers of players continues to shrink.
In the end, the people who like the game will lose the most if the game doesn't make it.
FYI: there was a movement from the playerbase to come here and vote, hence the high rating, which result in an explosion of new players to try the 2 weeks trial recently. And although a lot of people on that forum voiced their opinions on overhyping the game and not do ballot stuffing, there's no way for me to know wether the players voted honestly or not.
As far as I am concern, the game in its present state has at least 1 to 3 months of enjoyment out of it (and of course more if you fall in love with some aspect of the game).
I think you'll get your money worth just by trying out the 2 weeks trial and playing for a few months before moving on (unless mmorpgs are an "investment" to you, to which I say, invest smartly ;P)
And you're right, rating don't mean jack
I am sure there're aspect of EVE that kickass, and CoH, and EQ2. SoR deserves to be in the same class as them. It really surprises me few people actually KNOW about the game, just from reading some of the recent threads.
My guess is that it gets overshadowed by EQ2, WoW, and GW release. (and bad marketing champaign).
Comments
Heck why not 9.0 and over take GW too :P
If they actually launch outposts and ryzom-ring successfully, I can see that happening easily. But if they dont ...
it'll be the biggest "could have been great" flop in history :P
Shadow Exile
And make that a 7.7!!!!!!
Third place with Eve.. muaahhahaa... we are gonna get higher and higher and in the end, we will rule the List!!
scientology
Woehoe!! 3th place...!!!
Now they should notice Ryzom hopefully lots of new players
Think Nevrax should pay us for giving ryzom some extra publicity
Maybe give us a uber item or a free month?? hehehe... it's all good... as long as we get SoR's name out there!
Maybay they just should implent new payment methods so I can actually play again... no CC here

That rather depends what you mean by content.
