Jon Smedley has 'tweeted' that Planetside Next fans can expect a "big" announcement at the 2011 Fan Faire to be held in Las Vegas, Nevada on July 7-9. There are no other hints as to what the news might be. Speculate!

Obvious guess would be a release date. I remember back in January someone said it would release in March though.... so who the hell knows at this point? lol

I loved the first Planetside before they introduced the Battle Frame Robotics. At least it's been confirmed that they won't make a return.
Pretty excited to see what they'll come up with.
Hopefully a beta date at least. I don't expect Sony to release a release date before even announcing closed beta, but who knows, they have been kind of wierd about this game. I had heard similar rumors earlier this year the game was going to launch in March. Sounded far-fetched at the time and obviously it didn't happen. So far I have not heard much about this game really except the tiny bits they have released on twitter...and yeah no BFR's!
I'm kinda with this guy. I'm itching bad for some massive battles but I don't think I can really ever buy another SOE product & be able to respect myself in the morning. I only hope the new Tribes game that hi-Rez is working out comes out before or around the same time.

SWG was amazing, pre jedi-grind it's still for me the best mmo i have played. Buggy and broken perhaps, but more fun than anything else.
Planetside Next is a sequel, there was a game called Planetside which was brilliant....did you even play it?

Well I still play Planetside so I call that a big win, especially considering this announcement is about NEXT. When you think of the things planetside did back in 03 / 04, it was way ahead of its time.
Keep in mind that you are dealing with good old Smed here...It could be anything from a tease, to news that they are closing down PS, or that PS next has been shelfed... Given how much dealing with all of the security breaches has cost Sony, anything is possible at this point. Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.
SOE sure needs this game to succeed. They have a entire stable full of duds at present.

July 11: Release date announced, coming to stores Jan 2012!.
Aug - Dec 11: Reams and reams of paid advertorials hyping the game up and glorifying SOE. Forum dwellers buy into the hype saying it wont be SWG/DCUO all over again. Lifetime subs ftw.
Jan 12: Official release, awesome advertorial reviews bro!
Feb 12: Server closures.
March 12 - Onwards: Pitchforks and torches on the forums as people bemoan "why is the game run so badly?!?!?". Derp.

as long as they have a euro server so we don't have to put up with the rediculous chinese players lag issues , everything else can stay as it is imo

You can't make MMO's for the xbox thank god. Microsoft rages if you try to update past their once a month cap.
Even though my confidence in SOE is quite low that they will deliver a quality product, I'm still eagerly awaiting some info on Planetside Next. The original was a great game (albeit not terribly successful, probably due to being way ahead of its time and due to the fact that people still were apprehensive about paying monthly fees in 2002).
I don't know why another company hasn't tried to release a true MMOFPS since the original Planetside.
planetside 1.0 seemed kinda interesting but they went in a stupid drug induced direction
I liked the light tank, and the flyers were lots of fun and missiles until the other "junk" screwed any ballance
They should have went in the direction of starship troopers with carriers and dropships and do it up with real planetsides
Id love to fly troops and supplies from a carrier re enter an atmosphere droping troops into a hot LZ needs a good evolving plot story to hold it together and give it continuity.

oh yes, SOE is on my black list they seem to have a blackbelt in screwing up their games and screwing over players because they dont listen or they listen to accountants and statitions instead of players.
