Besides that, your logic that nerds play mmos like EQ2 is absolutely astounding. I don't play EQ2, I think it's over stream-lined crap myself - but I can see where many would like it. However it seems to me that you have the basic and common logic that studs party and do drugs and drink until they pass out in the middle of the road (butthead mock laugh)... and ofcourse that nerds play complex mmos. In your mind, it has absolutely nothing to do with personal prefrences. lol. Got news for you. I love complex mmos. (more complex and deeper then EQ2 by a longshot). I know this makes me a skinny nerd with glasses in your mind. (mocks Butthead laughs again) I however, am 6'4 and 220. Married with 3 kids. Ex highschool football "jock" (and yes I played video games avidly at the same time). I don't wear plaid pants and big glasses. I am anything but a nerd buddy, trust me on this. And I love mmos.. the deeper, the more complex, and the more involved, the better. Call me what you like. And I will call you a sheep that follows others blindly and one who judges other people without even knowing them. Yeh, yeh I know. A woman sleeps with a guy in a year and shes a whore, and a guy sleeps with 27 gals in a weekend and he's a stud. Your standard analogy. Uh huh. Sheep-Boy. Perhaps when you can spark the slightest resemblence of your own thought or idea that doesn't remind most people of a Beavis and Butthead laugh... you wil earn the slightest sliver of respect on these boards. Until then, stop being so damn stupid as to label anyone who loves a more challenging video game then you prefer a nerd eh? {sighs}

Ok settle down guys let's get this back on topic. Elnator: yes Arctic mud ruled Its great how after a while all that text starts to form images in your head (or was that just me?). i like your character name - mine was Ragnor (hehe). I have fond memories of being obliterated many times by Lord Soth Ok, from what I am hearing so far 1. GW does not seem to offer the MMO experience I am looking for. 2. The issue with EQ2 is that progression sounds fairly linear. Is this the case? Vipes
Just to actually post something productive on this out of control thread, I dont think you can compare GW and EQ2. Both of these games are on different sides of the table. While both being fantasy, each game has different aspects.
In GW, the end game IS PvP. The story line also continues after you reach lvl 20, but much of getting to 20 is so you can go with your guild and PvP. There is crafting in GW, but its all done by NPC and you dont go out and harvest resources like you do in other traditional MMO crafting. EQ2 is pretty much just the opposite of this. I never reached the end game of EQ2, but as of yet (soon to be implemented) there is no PvP and there is an extensive crafting system.
Your best bet is to try both of the games. EQ2 I have heard is on the shelf for pretty cheap, and with that free month you dont have much to lose. GW is $50 currently, possibly $45 depending where you look, and there is no monthly fee so you only lose your $50.
Sorry ...didn't mean to get off subject. To the original poster. You count really compare the two. I would just check out all the reviews on both games and then decide for yourself

It's really about how long you want to be involved in the game. Guild Wars is pretty short compared to other MMO's out there. It's not going to last you all that long. Eq2 certainly is deeper but not everyone enjoys it. Like En1Gma said, just read some reviews or possibly try them out. That's really the only way to find out.

Are you serious? EverQuest II has the best overall community. Well, it's better than Guild Wars community at least haha.
Totally different games. One is the EXTREME hardcore game, EQ2.. the other is of a new breed. Guild Wars offers Casual online gaming. Play whenever you want, for quick spurts, or intensely. Thus, community is irrelevant... its more like Battlefield 2, where the game is more important than the social.
The three weeks that I played EQ2 would be enough to say I didn't consider the community to be overly rude. Sometimes they were, other times they were crude, other times whiny, and a lot of the time apathetic. That's just my experience though, on my server, on the side I chose to serve. At least I'm willing to give it another chance though.
The three days I wasted to Guildwars was more than enough to get me to see what kind of people dominated this game. Mostly it was either the kids fresh out of diaper accademy and fresh on their new toy called online gaming, the wannabeleet PvPers who have dreams of being "the best", and of course those special people who left their ability to act mature back in their early teenage years, between five and twenty, maybe even thirty years in the past. Considering that's the total package on one server, I don't see myself contributing anymore time to GW. :P
So, without a doubt, I would put EQ2 players, even WoW players, higher up on the maturity scale than GW.

Totally owned! Totally true! Totally awesome!
Toast to Zaxx!
Also he crticized the guy for calling him names then went on to call him a "nerd". I smell a hypocrite.
If my experience is useful for you I bought GW, played during a week to lvl up to the max xp and skills and left the game after that.
I do not think GW is a nice choice for the long term
I have also played WoW and it has mostly the same trouble. 60 days to lvl up and after that the only think you can do is PVP.
EQ2 seems to be a deeper game to have fan with it for a long period of time (even I have not played it, so, I can not give you a direct feedback)
Now I am going to EVE trial now (I did not like scifi, but it seems that the kind of games I like are all scifi at the moment )
First day on MMORPG.com, first post, and this dude's already got himself reported. That takes talent.

all MMO's get borning after a certain point.
I burnt out on EQ 2 after my second char was almost 50. took about 2 months.
I've been playing GW since release, and I enjoy having more free time IRL.

Yah I haven't played neither but for things I have heard about E2 and GW, i think Guild Wars would be the better game.
