For those of you that don't think this is a serious issue for CCP... They are paying to fly the entire CSM(Player elected representitves from around the world for those that don't know) to Iceland for an emergency summit meeting with only 4 days notice to sort this out. They wouldn't be doing this if there was no issue. You may not take this seriously but CCP sure is.

Aye it is serious. But letting rumors float around that aren't true and cloud the real issues with CCP don't help either.
How many are going to stick with it though, especially if they are veterans of EVE? Perpetuum, is still in it's early stages, it's not nearly as polished as EVE. You also have to consider long standing EVE players who have become used to being at the top of the food chain. We've seen this for years in the MMO world a lot of these players find their way back to their home game, simply because they don't feel like roughing it all over again.
There's no better example of this than WOW. Besides WOW has 10 times as many competitors as EVE does, yet players still find their way back, many of which complain daily about how sick they are of playing WOW. Addiction can be a powerful thing, especially when power is involved.

And yet people will say PLEXes were not the beginning of a slippery slope, though I did think they would not keep falling, even CCP couldn't prevent that.

You'll be back, don't worry, we'll leave the light on.
Kyleran, I have always liked your posts and I believe from most of them that you are a fairly intelligent person etc etc ad nasuem and have agreed with most of you points in the past.
But this sounds like a WoW player comment. Is the exodus going to impact EvE? I have no idea nor do I care honsetly at this point. The CCP Corp said said "If you don't like it STFU and leave" Sooo... alot of people are leaving. many will return yes. Probably will return whether or not anything changes or not. BUT MANY will not return. Alot of people myself included didn't know anything about PO. It is actually pretty damn cool and it is a fresh start akin to when EvE was young.
I wont return to EvE. I don't care what CCP does it just isn't in the cards. Turns out there is a decent sandbox out there worth playing and with OCT / NOV rolling up with all the new games coming out EvE goes even farther on the backburner. With 100's of millions of SPs on my characters / accounts already I can go a year or more wthout even worrying about my skill que.... so not training is really irrelavnt now isn;t it. So why keep a sub going for training only????????? PASS on that.
In essence, don't leave the light on to long. Electric bills nowadays are pretty insane. And I get the feeling CCP might have an income deficit soon. But then again , they could always sell those energy efficient light bulbs in the cash shop.
PS if you liked Mech Warrior and you liked EvE pvp ...you might jsut like PO.. food for thought dude.
One other game recently managed to split its community right down the middle for different reasons and watched them argue with each other. They lost 600,000 accounts and its still falling I'd imagine.
I don't believe for one second that EVE is losing any significant subs to Perp Online over a cash shop. No one left for PLEX. Just a bunch of forumites going overboard.
Goodbye, don't let the door hit you on the way out.
Oh P.S.
If you're going to sick to your convictions then you should really delete your characters or give all your stuff away.
Leaving forever is the conviction that needs to be stuck to. Its about making EvE the way we want it. The email from the boss made it clear that they would not listen to what players say, only what we do,essentially making quitting over a disagreement the only valid option for voicing any issues.. If it works no reason for player nots to come back.

It's one thing to give somebody a gun, but it's something entirely different to ask them to point it and shoot somebody. So in the end it comes down to conviction, how far are they willing to go? If they delete their accounts, it proves they're serious and if they think CCP doesn’t listen then it's no loss.

The problem is that "other game" will be getting a cash-shop and has openly admitted that it's all about the $$$ (and I respect that openness, something CCP use to do). So I find it rather funny some I see the post on the EVE boards that basically say: "CCP doesn't care about us because they have a cash-shop so I am leaving to play another MMO that promises a cash-shop." Yup that makes perfect sense, however in the end Perpetuum (oops I said the name) gets free PR and the possibility of a nice influx of money and that's good news in my opinion (I have a soft spot for indie developers.)
As for CCP, this is nothing new. They do something, people scream and over time they back peddle. My only issue is that they use to be more transparent and that no longer is the case. When I read the e-mail I thought "now thats what Zulu should have posted instead of his weak attempt at a slap (we even gamers have heard worse hence HTFU)". Over all I don't care and will stick around until they start draining the sandbox, at which point I will leave and let CCP do as they please as I have more important things to do than get bent all out of shape over a game.

Sigh, tongue in cheek humor never translates well, even when you try to throw in an emoticon or two.
But seriously, most of you will be back once you realize the sky isn't falling.
Now, if you really mean it, please forward all your stuff to my attention and delete your characters. (or give them to me if they are captial/dread pilots, I'll pay your transfer fees)
PO might be a nice game, but you do realize a cash shop is in it's future right? In fact, there is no where for you to run cash shops/microtransactions are invevitable in every game, just a matter of how they'll be implemented.
Perhaps this outcry will discourage those people in CCP who were considering selling items of power no matter how tempting it might be, but the cash shop is here to stay.
Edit, and if you're leaving, would you please log off, because EVEMON is telling me there are 44538 pilots logged into EVE right now.... I'm waiting for the crowds to die down a bit myself. (and someone keep outbidding me in Amarr in the market, tell them EVE's dead and please take them with you)
By the way, calling me a WOW player might be accurate, there was a time I played some WOW, almost 2 years worth, so I guess some of that slips into my commentaries on occasion.

5,000 less accounts is almost a loss of 1 million dollars a year. That puts any financial benefits of a cash shop in a pretty deep hole to start out. I'm not debating or accepting the 5k number, just using it as it was stated earlier in the thread.
The real problem is the bond of trust that has been broken or at the least weakened. Things like that cannot be measured and companies that have players loose faith in them are usually companies that start to lose their grip on those players. If nothing else it makes them extremely vulnerable to competition. Even competition that would not normally compete in the same segement of gamespace.
It doesn't really matter what CCP says now, because people will always be wondering if it is the truth. The internal document that went public leaves to many questions about their intentions. No matter what they say or do with the cash shop players will from now on fear that they might be up to something else. Even the slightest variation will trigger a reaction from players, because there is truth to the words that CCP spoke when they didn't think players would ever see those words.
If CCP was having internal debates about selling items of power then that means it is something that was considered and considered to the point that it was important enough to discuss with the entire company. They can claim it is something that will never happen and would never be considered, but their own words contradict that.
I've got quite alot of respect for those who actually did drop their subs, I don't really see it as that big of an issue but you clearly do and you're trying to make your voices heard by actually taking action - good on you really.

You have just misunderstood the information or your information is wrong.
Only vanity items for Perpetuum cash shop were confirmed, if you can say that.
