I tried playing it the other day and it was horrible.
Graphics were crap and it was stil terribly hitchy.
I only played for thirty minutes or so,but i just couldnt handle anymore.
Lag, lack of monsters, boring combat, only saw one other person in thirty minutes.
Im not sure if this game should even be in closed beta yet,let alone open beta. I promptly deleted it. I thought it was horrible. Thats just my opinion of course.

The game seems right around closed beta actually. It sort of works, I am pretty sure its an indie game so don't expect much tobegin with, and it is a decent idea, just not executed correctly. All in all I will revisit this game when its fixed.
if i remember correctly its because i spent a week trying to login with no success.
let me know when their f2p store offers a server connection, with points i don't have to earn ingame
otherwise, it does look interesting. i hope the interface will be easier to grasp then the engineering manual you have to put together from random posts for Mortal Online.

So, yeah, this forum base is always complaining about the lack of a new fantasy sandbox when it's sitting right in front of them in the form of a FREE open beta. Why not go give it a try?
As far as I can seefor most it's because it isnt 100% perfect in their eyes, and that cannot be forgiven. They don't get that if they never actually play the sandbox MMOs that are actually made, even being prepared to support them through rough times if needed, then it is extremely hard to sell the idea to major devs because they don't see a visible market.
It's exactly the same thing thats happening with VG (though that isnt a SB I know)... People don't play because it isnt supported, but it isnt supported because people don't play, and those that go on about how awesome it is and bemoan the lack of games like it just sit here day after day complaining (while never putting their cash where their mouth is).
Also, no hype or buzz means that there is no crowd to follow, which is how most choose their games here.

See that logic isnt real. Should I support a car company that sells junk, just because they are utilizing a technology that I think should be utilized? No, all that will do is prove to the big players that they can decrease overhead by reducing quality and still generate revenue.
I am not saying dawntide suck. I am simply saying your logic is flawed.
On the other note, its free for open beta, but if you dont like it, why should you force yourself to play it? What are you the Jesus Christ of sandbox mmos? Willing to sacrifice yourself so that 2000 years from now people will call themselves vesuvians and still play shitty ass games all the while trying to force others to play their stupid games?
Dawn tide is not bad, it is just lacking. Then again every single mmo is lacking something for me.
To the caterpillar it is the end of the world, to the master, it is a butterfly.

I think that DT is a great idea, but they didn't finish it yet. I don't have time to play a beta game right now, because I don't have time to deal with the issues. I am definatly checking out DT later, when it finished.
And why do people compare the MMO industry to the real world? The instances are in no way similar, because teh MMO world targets a very select audience who may or may not want something, and companies think we don't want this.
Their website is really nice, but it's decieving when you actually go into the game and have no idea what the hell is going on.
Actually you just made me realize why no company will ever make a good sandbox game. Because tutorials usually introduce you to the story, whereas a sandbox has no story. Perhaps if the fixed this problem somehow. Why not give something called a guidestone or whatever that you can ask questions to so you can figure stuff out in the begining.
I've played tons of sandbox games that have stories. The key is not forcing the player to have to follow it. I've spent hours and hours in Fallout 3 and New Vegas without ever touching the "main" story, because I was too busy doing all the little side-stories and exploring the game worlds. Which is what a sandbox MMO should focus on--little side stories that are about as efficient for character growth and progression as most other in-game activities, but that aren't necessary to ever do, and by incorporating aspects of exploration and randomness.
As far as Dawntide goes, I don't play it because I'm not a fan of tank and spank combat.

2. Is the game skill based and I must do something to improve the skill in such a way as to promote macro'ing or is it level based and I must kill monsters/players to gain experience?
3. Are the skills hardcapped such that after X amount of time everyone will be the same?
4. Is there full loot upon death or any death penalty that involves losing something of value such as items?
5. Do I gain anything by killing another player that has value such as items?
6. Is the game resource/crafting based or is it monster/drop based?
This forum base is always complaining about the lack of a new QUALITY fantasy sandbox game. There is no shortage of mediocre sandbox games that have good people with great ideas working on them, but they are still mediocre games at best.
You can pretty much lump this game in with Mortal Online and Xyson and Earthrise. Very good ideas but because of inexperince, lack of money and lack of professionalism it is utter junk.

Dawntide went into beta (first closed and then open beta) FAR too early. They practically went into beta when they had a bit of landscape, a number of 3d-models and some rather basic animations and character models.
I reckon that by now about everybody on these boards with more than a passing interest in sandbox games has tried Dawntide, but stopped "playing" it because - well, honestly - most of the "gameplay" mechanics are still in development. Indie developers should learn that they need to have a product before going into open beta, because that's what beta is for: testing the product.
Instead Dawntide went into open beta without a real product, that was (and is) still in development.
I maintain this List of Sandbox MMORPGs. Please post or send PM for corrections and suggestions.
I gave the game a go about 2 weeks ago after seeing someone mention it on here. In theory it sounds like it could be a good game but IMO it went into beta far to early. I wasn't expecting it to be finished but there's way to much work that's still needed for me to invest time in it. If it was further along I might but to play a game that could even ultimately not officially get released seems to a waste in the current state it's in. Maybe i'll give it another look in a few months.
Hm.. well I'm not the type of person who just randomly joins a guild for gameplay advantages. And I don't think that any guild which recruits random strangers is worth joining.
Exactly. That's been my experience from as far back as 2001. Ditto with guilds/corps touting for members in General Chat - if they have to plead for members, they aren't worth joining. Stick them on /ignore.
1) I'm a little paranoid about installing software on a whim, especially when I don't know the publisher.
2) The first two things I check on a game are the business model at the target playstyle. I don't want to become emotionally invested in a game that will be shopware or has unrestricted open world PvP. If I can't get my answers to these questions within a click of the front page, I'm wary.
3) Looking over the patch notes, I notice a lot of game-breaking bugs that seem to be still popping up. Although it's nice to see the rate at which patches are coming out, it has me concerned over the stabiliity of the underlying engine and development pipeline.
(But I'll do a little more research and give it some consideration)
well.. personally .. there are so many games i'd like to try out, and the amount of time i have is limited.. so.. games that are still in beta.. have to draw the line somewhere.. maybe once the game is finished

'cause it sucks? And majority will agree. You asked for it - there it is.

I'm going to go with the "it sucks" and "amateurish" takes on it. Downloaded it, Installed it, played it, didn't care for it.
Not the sandbox I am looking for, the sand seems more like dirt.
