I'm redownloading this after...crikey, 4 years maybe?, of being off.
I'll head over to AB then and spend the next 2 hours trying to figure out what class/race to play and what the hell I'm doing before looking one of you up
can everyone who is starting new try to all get on the same server? this would be very helpful, and is a better way to ensure someone is always online.

AB or Guk?
The AB group now has 14 members. Anyone is welcome to join, but let me warn you in advance: We are a casual group and play for fun!
We actually like exploration, doing dungeons together and slowly discovering the content.
If you do not mind we can not and most importantly do not want to offer a fast way to the end areas, we would love to welcome you in our family.
I'm doing EQ2X because it seems to have a bigger population for low levels. Anyone know if EQ2X, with All Access, does not cost you anything to pay? Like you don't have to pay for quests, mounts, etc ?
does anyone know how EQ2X works with All Access? Do I get the 'entire' game while playing it? Do I not have to buy anything since it is F2P? Like I won't have to pay for mounts/quest packs/etc....? I am curious. I want to do the All Access if that is possible but it doesn't make sense since EQ2 is also part of it, so why buy the latest expansion, to have everything, when I can do EQ2X also? am i making any sense?

If you buy the All Access pass, you get EQ2X Gold Membership in the package. Gold is pretty much an equivalent to EQ2 Live subscription, with two restrictions:
It only offers 4 races (remaining purchasabe)
does not include the last expansion Destiny of Velious (which you won't notice until level 85+)
EQ2X itself will not force you to invest more money into it, but will present options on every corner. What I do not like is the option of buying equipment and spells with real life money. All of it can be obtained through gameplay, but I would imagine a lot of (especially younger) players will use these options. Therefore your time invested into your character loses its value.
Also keep in mind that EQ2X is aimed at a different group of customers, compared to EQ2 Live. While you would meet more players on lower levels without a doubt, the question is how many of these are going to play in a few weeks and whether or not they are taking the game seriously. If the Live service requires you to buy the game to get in, you will not meet as many people who are not enjoying the game or who are there to ruin other players experience.
The third and last Live selling point is the fact that you can copy over to EQ2X. If you invest time into live and then decide to pay I think 30$, you end up with two characters. One on Live and one on EQ2X. You also get a Gold membership for free as long as you are paying Live. It does not work the other way around.
If you join the AB server, the population is not bad at all. Even on lower levels.
So I wouldn't give you a one way view on the whole thing, EQ2X has its good sides too:
You can always invite your friends and they can play with you all the way up to the very highest levels, with fewer restrictions than the EQ2 Live trial and for unlimited time. They will probably end up paying the game anyway though if they go past level 40 (roughly).
If you decide to stop paying, you still can play your character (provided it is one of the free races and free classes - otherwise you would have to pay a one-time fee)
The population is going to be higher on lower levels.
If you like the concept of buying equipment for money, you may invest real life money into your character and make your character stronger with less effort than the Live server.

thank you very much. you were very helpful. I have seen a lot of high lvl players in chat looking for groups. I know that, if i wanted to, i could later pay to xfer my ratonga (love 'em) to an actual server. i am now tempted to get the all access. i mean if you sub anyway to EQ2 its only 5 more.
My friends and I joined an established guild on Butcherblock this week and have been enjoying it. We thought about starting our own but figured it would just be easier joining one thats been around for a while. If anyone else from the Butcherblock server needs a place to start please contact me on Shuey. We have about 20-25 on each night so plenty of folks to chat with and our returning player group is starting to fill out nicely.

One clarification on this. If you copy a Live character to Extended, that character is Gold as long as you maintain your Live subscription. Your whole account isn't Gold unless your Live subscription is part of All Access.

I just started this game also 2 days ago on AB. Can I join this group of mmorpg.com'ers?
Edit: I'm on live game btw, using my 45 days of free time for now!
Contact one of our leaders and we would be happy to invite you into the guild.

I might be down if it was a group of open minded fun people.
Eq2 always seemed interesting.

I didn't read through 1000's of posts but I assume someone with half a brain pointed out...
EQ2X is no different than Live...
You buy what you want (expands) and you pay the same 14.99 per month to get fully unlocked everything.
Why PAY for a game that will shut you down if you stop paying them?
EQ2X will let you pay to get everything, if you stop paying you can still play (with a few limits)...
I see no down-side to EQ2X other than the fanboy or eliteist community that will try to force you into their live servers.
Im on eq2x Im jillliian Thats j-i-l-l-l-i-i-a-n :-)
