I love the video. Thanks for posting the links. I'm not a fan of voices in game because I am an alt-aholic. Having to hear chatty kathy over again gets annoying. I don't like to be read aloud to in games. I want action not a lot of dialogue.
I also like that I have to look elsewhere to get help with the game. That finding the code for the box was neat. Course once everyone knows it then it's just another quest, but I like that.
Just watched this, thing that lept out to me right away is how the girl was dressed. All of the characters look as if they had just had stepped out of a Von Maur clothing store, kinda funny. I notcied the movement and feel to look well implimented, I always like when your character controls as if it has its own mechanics, like a weighted feel, at least its what I notcied in the video. Not sure about the abilities screen, seems a bit clunky and minamalistic in nature. This game is kinda feeling like what happened with another game, brink. I know it doesn't have anything to do with mmos, but that game I swear I thought it was going to be better then the legendary Team Fortress 2 but it ended up being way short then that. Hope the same doesnt happen with this game.
I get the feeling like not alot of people will get into the story that raps around real life things which is a big focus with this game. If no one is playing it and its not making money then not much more will go into it I would guess, also there isnt really that much activity on its forum here either. Its funny cause I acidently clicked on the general topics for this entire website the other day and mistaken it for this games forums. I was like, wow, my favorite game coming out is really kicking it into gear, this is going to be great. Then I came back down to reality and figured it out that I wasnt in The Secret Worlds forum but in the general dicussion forum for the entire website.

the secret world has a official forum, people who want to talk about this game go there to talk, not here.
it is not like GW2 that don't have a official forum.
I think I'm wanting this more and more just because FC actually stepped out of the box and picked a setting/theme that hasn't really been touched in an MMO.
I'm interested in this game, but since it was fairly recently announced I don't expect it for 3 - 5 years. So it won't really be competing with most ofthe upcoming games I want to play, like GW2 or TOR.
I like the character idea...and the setting seems cool...but when I was watching that video something seemed familiar...

This was announced in 2007..yeah. The story has ben in progress since ca. 2002 & in production since 2006.
It will most likely be out before GW2 also I think. TOR is a "no way" for me at least.
Then based on the videos all I have to say is "Ouch"
Usually the graphics are fairly far along early...and these are still primitive as all fuck. Look at videos of most MMOs 3 years before release...the graphics are generally not terrible far from release, other than a little polishing. These look like what you see in low-budget TV shows that do a mockup of a videogame for one episode.
Either they have a radically different design schedule than any other MMO, or they're further from release than one might think.

Well for an MMO, the graphics look pretty good. Good lighting, atmospheric effects and varied locales. It's just the character and mob animations, that I find, looks sluggish and pretty terrible. But just like SW:TOR,s animations, cetain aspect of TSW can be improved and polished before release. Shame I won't be getting it, if they go the standard subsciption route. Just doesn't seem worth it and the whole Tank, Healer, DPS thing really put me off after watching this video. I mean, why add all this skill customization (with 500+ skills), when you're just gonna slap in the same old MMORPG style of combat (tank pull mobs, healer keeps health green, while the rest try to beat eachother in DPS).

I don't see how you can comment on the graphics. Unless I'm missing something, these are crappy cam videos from a presentation.
The game may be incredible, and I hope it is, but all I took from this is how bad the cam was.
BTW..........Yes that does scream manipulation……….Just say'in.
After recent unveilings im inclined to believe TSW is farther from release than many of us anticipated which is concerning with funcoms release reputation and EAs get it out now approach...
Graphically speaking with funcom they often doctor and use angles on the official videos to look unbelievably good and the raw screen presentations are bad so i think it will be somewhere in the middle and very similar to AOC...
Ok after watchin the walkthrough here are my thoughts:
Pleased:
-skill progression and splitting progression into vertical and horizontal
-mood and writing seem up to Tornquist high standard (quirky fun lines from the NPCS, the other PCs shrug in the chopper at the end made me crack up, good looking visuals)
-run and gun gameplay (i hate stand-still hackfests)
-switching of skills mid instance
-ARG puzzle implementation (pretty advanced)
-learning mechanics on trash and overal dungeon design
Worrying:
-showcase of "roles" (tentative, i know they balance around total healing/dps/dmg mitigation and not "classes" but thats what Blizz does too)
-ARG depth and long-term questions (will the ARG puzzles change in multiple run-throughs in dungeons? if not, can i just remember the "code" showcased and just help newbs? if yes, will it not have problems with pacing like the party waiting on a puzzle to be solved by that noob. since they didnt open the crate to not "spoil the fun" i assume the loot stays static, bad move etc.)
-dungeon linearity and mechanics (it looked like a standard WoW raid, dont stand in the fire, phases, adds, kiting, debufs etc.)
-sledgehammers - i despise melee in my modern-time games if its not combined with stealth etc. seriously dont bring knives/swords to a gunfight.
Questions:
-loot? didnt see them get any, no drops suggests loot from NPCs for quests or the ARG puzzles
-skill progression, do skills themselves become more powerful, and is there a cap in skills?
The bad side seems to be that it looks really small, same bad thing as AoC.
It's a dungeon... =P
EDIT: I'm going to post this again...

"Please keep in mind that not all journalists are familiar with the game when we show them the presentation. Going too deep into the details on every little mechanic and to the fullest complexity of the skill system tends to be too detailed for a 20 minute presentation. We like to keep it focused and to the point.
Yes, we refer to some characters as tanks, healers, DPS, CC, support, you name it-characters. It's just easier for us to call them what role they take, instead of explaining the detail of the entire build (which can be quite complex ).
There will be characters in the game who are better at absorbing damage, there will be players who are able to make the HP bar go from red to green, and there will be players who can freeze a mob in place from afar. Just because these skills exist doesn't necessarily mean that you played like this before in other MMOs. There are similarities and differences.
As I mentioned in another tread: When we design encounters we look at what the group should bring in total, rather than who the 5 individual players are. Having said that, we are fully aware that you guys are a lot smarter than us. When you learn how to play the game, I'm 100% certain that you will find ways of beating the encounters in ways we never thought of. But this is a part of the game! We present the challenge, and you guys figure out how to beat it in the way you want "
Ah man this is so sick. The graphics and environments are simply stunning. The skill wheel was great to see. What I love the most is it seems like they took the best out of dungeons from the AoC expansion and put them in from the start. These dungeon battles are fun, challenging, and feel like an action game throughout. The best actual fun and interactive gameplay I have in an MMO by a mile is thanks to these dungeons.
I am stoked. I was so worried that they weren't showing gameplay, but the UI, and everything involved looked spectacular to me. The game seems farther along than I thought. This will be an amazing experience.
This game looks awesome. I was a long time AO player and when it comes to player customizing Funcom knows how to do it. I love the thought of being able to adapt to any situation and the experimenting with all the skills is going to be great puzzle in itself. I hope that the game will build the same kind of community like AO did. I can't wait !
That was the coolest dungeon i have seen in my entire life. Looks like PvE in this game is going to be sick! God i hope this game runs well. I really liked AoC but it just wouldnt run well on my very beast computer. I've just recently started playing AoC again and I really liked it. Looks like Secret World will be quite an experience.

Well you can always skip dialogue :P

Hey, thanks for the links, very interesting. Looking forward to this one.
Cool videos, just upped my hype for this game a bunch!

abandoned amusement park...empty hotel...backwoods...
Oh yeah...
You kidding me?

Playing GW2..
It sure looks great, a lot of Delta green over it (looks like shooting deep ones).
