First off to the forum snobs, NO im not going to use the search thing and spend time reading post trying to find info. This is a forum to talk about the game so lets talk about it.
PVP - what do you guys know about it? I know this is a " good guys " vs " bad guys " type game. but is there going to be a server with some kind of FFA PVP? is there going to be PVP servers at all? or is it just a mass PVE game with dueling and other care bear stuff like battlegrounds ( instanced pvp )?
any info would be great.

I don't think much has been released yet, but there will be PvP servers. They've also announced that one of the planets is almost entirely PvP even on PvE servers.
PvP is not even mentioned on the SWTOR.com site in the game-information and the few blips that can be found in the official forums or dev-blogs are not set in stone as far as information goes.
Basically we don''t know anything about PvP and it doesn't seem to be a feature Bioware really thought about. My best bet is meaningless arena and battlegrounds like in all themepark MMOs.
ah damn, i was hopeing there would be more info about it. oh well i hope its not another arena battlegrounds pvp game.
An entire PvP planet at end game. PvP lakes on PvE servers with objectives. Warzones and open world PvP.

Revealed Warzones:
There is NO auto facing in PvP only PvE - Torocast
There is at least one more Warzone that has not been announced yet - Corellian Run Radio
On PvP servers, there is nothing to stop higher-level players from returning to lower-level planets (except starter/capital) and ganking lower-level players. The guards in the various safe areas on all planets are universally high level, to provide at least some protection for those levelling - Torocast
Quote: Players of opposing factions can almost always fight each other out in the open world, so long as they toggle their PVP flag. This flag will automatically be toggled "on" in designated PVP areas on a PVE server and in most areas on a PVP server - Gamespot
Quote: The one thing that stood out to me more than any other is the pacing of combat. For anyone who hated WoW's "I 3-shot you" PvP, I introduce you to SWTOR. The PvP in this game has a much slower pace than any WoW player may be used to yet what is great is that it still felt very action packed - Torocast
Do not expect TOR PvP to be short one shot kills. Its more tatical and requires multiple shot/hits as well as planning. If you make a mistake you have time to correct - Ask A Jedi
If you fulfill a role type in a Warzone such as Healer or Tank your abilities actually benefit your side. You gain Badges such as absorbing damage etc, Taunt abilities from a Tank are useful as you pull damage off others. The more badges you earn by filling a role the more tokens you get to spend - IGN
Currently access to PvP Start after the origin worlds around level 10 - IGN
Even on PvE servers there will be open world zones of conflict (PvP) that you can enter 5.30 - Gamespot
There is a matchmaking system that pits similar groups against each other. Premades vs Premades, class to class etc 4.20 - Ask A Jedi
The way PvP has been designed is that gear has its place but the better skilled player will have the edge. 4.12 - Ask A Jedi
Each player is allowed to assign one commendation at the end of the match to any teammate. These commendations increase the rewards acquired by that player - Darth Hater
All classes gain Resolve bars while in PvP. These bars are a visual representation of diminishing returns that show a characters susceptibility to crowd control - Darth Hater
You can receive at least four different rewards for PvP: Valor, Tokens, Experience, and Credits - Darth Hater
You can earn bdages that have specific names relating to the accomplishment (i.e. guardian badge). You get them for things like absorbing 10k damage with guard without dying, reaching 100k damage overall, defending three objectives, etc - Darth Hater
Depending on the type of Warzone the battle maps will not always be symmetrical - Darth Hater
Some planets will have contested areas where both factions will fight for control - Darth Hater

When asked if a group can queue for a Warzone the reply was: Quote: "Yes! You can queue solo or in an existing group and our dynamic matchmaking system will do its best to find suitable opponents accordingly" - Bioware

Quote from Gabe: "As far as whether or not companions will be in PvP -- honestly, we're going through testing and we'll determine that later" - Darth Hater
When asked if companions count towards 8vs8 Warzones the reply was quote: "No. They don't count towards that 8v8." - Darth Hater
The 8 players in a warzone could be, as with other MMOs, a mix of premade, premade + individuals or 8 individuals - Darth Hater
You will not see a HP bar as the objective is attacked but you will see flames, debris and smoke to indicate damage. If you die you respawn on the ship and you will see damage and hear klaxxons inside as well. - Massively
Quote: No, you can't heal your ship back up. It's an effective timer. Those guns start firing and you just want to make sure they're firing the right direction most of the time for your side to win. - Massively

The PvP is awful, and NOT a reason the buy this game.
Saying that though, to their credit, BW have stated clearly that this game isnt for PvPers and so I do not blame them for not putting as much effort into it as their story content.
Not every game on the market has to have PvP as a priority.
Really?
I take it you are beta testing the game then. Maybe you could tell us exactly why the Pvp is awful. Elaborate a little.
Sorry to say, but none of this information is set in stone. Atleast it is nowhere mentioned on the official site, so I'd call of of it speculation at best.
Oh and yeah. Even if it all holds true, it's only Arena and Battleground and 100% meaningless. PvP needs to have a meaning (i.e. playerlooting, ressource-control, territorial control etc).
According to him everything with this game is horrible, solo-centric, lies, or just not that good. Oh but don't forget he's still looking forward to it.

I have quite openly and clearly said this game succeeds in it's story element and multi conversations, as well as in it's use of companions. My views on it have been both good and bad, in other words balanced, and I have said I will be buying it to play for a month or so.
It IS solo centric though, no matter what smoke you want to create to cover the fact.
As for elaborating... whats the point? So I can have posts like this one above creating BS white noise and looking for personal squabbles? No... cba tbh.
I want to agree with the last part. I believe that PvP isnt important for all games. True yes, I see its appeal and have done it often (to my dismay). But I remember a time when MMOs brought people together in a friendly manner to share adventures in, the games now a days have forgotten that and bring people together that just like to ruin others experiences or talk poorly to them. With that said, from what I read the being able to toggle pvp is a plus for me a , "homeage" if you will to the good old SWG days, cheers to that. I will as I always have, do little PvP and focus on why I buy any MMORPG, and thats have fun and remember the last few letters of the genre, "Roleplay".
That is also meaningless. It is a game, not RL. Nothing you do in game means a thing unless it is fun. Fun is the only thing that matters. And from sub numbers, what you define as fun is not for most gamers.
And the PvP level cap planet is confirmed from SDCC, twice. The lakes are not confirmed, just talked about briefly. The open PvP is also confirmed and those who have played it are having fun. All that matters really.

oh nice so there is some world pvp! i like that the most, i like some excitment while out doing quest.
With this perspective SW will definitely appeal to you. Despite it's heavy solo focus and severly limited character creation/ customisation/ gear progression, it does still manage to be fun and will suit RPers. Because of the strong NPC characterisation the world can be pretty immersive.
Fun is very subjective I guess. And Level Cap... lol...
True. I remember when you were raving about how great Earthrise was.
You seemed to be one of the few to have this opinion.

whats so "lol" about a level cap pvp planet? What are there supposed to be lvl 1-5, 6-10 etc. pvp planets? Why do you have to argue about everything? Whats going to last more?
Actually to the contrary, you'd probably never see a post like the above; if you actually explained or elaborted on your points, I actually said that because you never do.

Any idea if Starship PVP battles will be included in end game content?
No space PVP at launch, it's strictly a mini game.

No, not at launch. It will be a solo side game and nothing more. But it is on their big wall of crazy. They would like to do it at some point. But I doubt it will be any time soon.

Thanks for the info guys. It's always good to hope though, I can imagine it's on their top "to do" list.

Whatever happened to the IN BIOWARE WE TRUST signatures?
Shame on you. You aren't supposed to say! Thank you though... lol
