I've been following the development for six years. I'm not in beta myself but I have friends who are. There is a ton of info available on this game. I know what I'm buying and who I'm buying it from. This is Star Wars from Bioware. Thats all I really need to know.

The median pay in USA is 16 $/h. God forbid you dare spend a day's worth of money on something you enjoy.

Personally i really hope you enjoy this game ,i just hope spending all that hard earned coin does'nt backfire on you guys.

Ive preordered the CE & yes it is quite expensive. However i dont consider myself making a mistake regarding the buy of it.

Its probably cause ive lowered my expectations of SWTOR - and instead of expecting af full fleshed MMO. Im expecting a full fleshed rpg story & adventure as if this was KOTOR 3 - with the most wonderfull possibility of playing atleast co-op.

8 different stories to experience with multiple choices during your adventures wich will effect the outcome several times.

8 different base classes to start with, furthermore advancing into 16 different classes - in wich each you can fill out different roles.

The replayability is enormous ( Got like 500 hours played in DA:Origins ) atleast for me. And once again the added possibility of playing with a friend or more during the rich adventerous stories that youve come to expect & love from Bioware games is beyond measure. And lets face it, theres no chance in hell - that the rich fat storyline of epic awesome sauce aint there.

So with those thoughts in mind, i myself and im guessing quite a few others - will feel just dandy with what were getting for the price were paying.

Everything else added to my expectations is just gravy ;)

Ya know I keep hearing about the hype of ToR, and how we should all beware because games never live up to the hype.  In the very next breath I heard how GW2 will be the savior MMO and be fresh and innovative. image

I may not be the biggest fan of theme-park MMO gaming (I much prefer sandbox MMOs) but in the end I know SWTOR is going to be a massive game with many people playing... so I've pre-ordered not only one but two CE.  The first one is obviously mine while the second I may not even buy in the end.  I'm merely holding it for incase my brother wants the game... or a friend.  So some of you may hate me for holding a CE I may not even buy in the end because I'm sure they are sold out by now.

Long story short SWTOR will give me my moneys worth I am sure of it, even if only a few months I'll have fun.

Yeah, hype seems to mean different things to people these days but what I see for the most part in these forums are people bashing the game. How exactly is that hype? Most of the fans of the game in this forum don't seem to have their expectations too high. They're not expecting the greatest thing ever. Most are simply expecting Kotor in an MMO format. None expect the game to be perfect and most have criticisms of the game. They expect certain things out of the game, but they don't expect the 'second coming'. I don't see anything unreasonably hyped about that. Yet if you look into the GW2 forums you see hype gone amuck but nobody says anything about it. There are no dire warnings, little in the way of criticisms, and there are very high expectations. Isn't that what being hyped is? *Shrugs* I don't really understand why people feel that TOR is over hyped. It's simply well known because it's Star Wars and is being made by Bioware. Being well known does not equate being hyped.

I have reasonable expectations for what this game will be.  I have followed it closely and taken into account what has been revealed (officially and leaked).  I have listened to the overwhelmingly positive feedback of those who have played this game and enjoyed it, and that has further reinforced my confidence that this game will succeed and be everything I know it to be.

So, no; I don't regret preordering this game.  I know I will get exactly what I want out of it. :)

I'm buying this as a Star Wars and Bioware fan, the fact its an MMO is only going to add to its value for me. Also the game at this point is very clear as to what it's going to be I have no worries.

Preordering any MMO is a bad idea. All those who preorder are the ones that are at fault that MMO companies feel they can release unfinished games. No MMO has ever sold out of copies. Its just ridiculous and it hurts the overall community.

Lets see, yep to the car, you pay your deposit or first monthly installment up front and get your car (in most cases unless your fortunate and have plenty of cash upfront) later on, car turns up and sometimes, not everytime though, but sometimes it turns out to be a bit of a dud, that metallic paint suddenly doesn't appear so metallic, those alloy trims aren't theones you ordered, the leather interior is now cloth, etc etc etc.

Food thats a definate yes, never heard of online supermarkets? you tick off what you want, it gets delivered later on, but wait a minute those brand name burgers you wanted are replaced with chicken wings!? the Ketchup you wanted now gets replaced with washing up liquid etc etc, it happens alot.

House, well how many times have ppl bought a house and then when they have moved in find that the previous owners have taken all the fuxtures and fittings and even the floorboards aswell, even though you assumed it was all part of the deal, it happens.

Cloths ordered online, well you thought you where getting a small t-shirt with a nice print on it, when it turns up you find you got yourself a pink scarf with your initials motiffed on it, but hey at least it's personalised =).

Nearly everything these days is a pre-order of some description, and you have to take it on good faith that what you purchased it what you will get, the good faith is more on our part than the vendors though.

You take your chances in everything, games aren't so vastly different.

     This, right here.

This isn't some unknown developer with a shady history, making a game based on a questionable IP.

I have loved EVERY Bioware game, and place them right up there with Bethesda, ID Software and Valve in the "All time best PC game developers group".

The contents of the CE are things that I consider well worth the price, especially since I typically spend close to that on dinner or drinks.

If I had not bought the CE, I would wish that I had in the long run.

Not tue. Majority buy whats on the dealer lot. Even the ones who order, go to a dealership and test drive and review features.

Another poor example. People are buying things they already have consumed prior to ordering.

House, well how many times have ppl bought a house and then when they have moved in find that the previous owners have taken all the fuxtures and fittings and even the floorboards aswell, even though you assumed it was all part of the deal, it happens.

    <mod edit>

Never happens. No bank would issue a loan for a house that wont pass inspection.

Cloths ordered online, well you thought you where getting a small t-shirt with a nice print on it, when it turns up you find you got yourself a pink scarf with your initials motiffed on it, but hey at least it's personalised =).

You can return those online purchases. ANother bad example from you.

Yes MMO games are very different. You cant return them for full refunds or exchange for another item. All game retailers will state thier return policy will be a big no on any opened electronics.

    Here's my personal opinion:

EVERY Class has it's own story.  EVEN if I don't feel like dealing with people I have an out in the way of my followers/companions.  If we were looking at it from a strickly RPG perspective that gives you almost 16 playthroughs if you TRULY feel like it.  Per Bioware, most of these quests will not be repeated between characters.

You could wipe the MMO out of this and it would still be a value.

The Old Republic is an interesting period of conflict that has me excited.

Whether it's too expensive or not is another argument for a different conversation because CLEARLY people think it's worth it or it would not be sold out.

Plus it helps that my guild will be there en masse on both factions.

I too don't see a point in preordering, I've only preordered 2 games in my entire gaming life (nearly 20 years now), first was Half-Life 2 and second was Battlefield: Bad Company 2. Nowadays they give you a reason to preorder by giving you ingame bonuses (like a robot pet in Tabula Rasa), Battlefield 3's preorder perk is kind of retarded.

no mistakere, preordered here and eagerly waiting for this. Minaly want to ensure I have a copy on opening day .

  • Bama1267Bama1267 Member UncommonPosts: 1,822

Mistake? I'm more than certain this game won't be total trash. I will get my money out of it If nothing else and get a few pre order perks. CE though? No brainer, I'm not spending 300 bucks because I would need to buy 2 copies. Seems LA and Biowares plan to make tons of money kicked off with a bang ... good strategy on them. People who really wanted the collectors stuff should be happy as well but for me ... the statue and "collectors" crap werent enough to make me pony up that kind of money. But it's a collectors edition meant for collectors so that's fine with me.

No, what's ridiculous is someone thinking they know how I should spend my money better than I do. It hurts the overall society not just the gaming community. You attend to your affairs lugal, and I'll tend to mine.

I swore aI would never ever do another pre order after the way I felt that turbine burnt me.  I did the pre order for duke nukem forever and that game totally blows chunks so I got burned with it.

However I don't think I will be burned with SWTOR,  I been waiting a long time for this game to roll out and stream roll swg under the pavement.    Sorry but swg headed to die, and it really died for me with the nge.    Still its going to be nice to have start wars mmo back, just this time without the total bone headed mistakes from soe.

I don't think preordering is bad in general.. sometimes you get a month or two free when you preorder.

Everytime I go to the movies, I "preorder" it.  I pay for it up front without knowing much about it.  Same with food from a drivethru.  In fact, there are several things I pay for up front.

Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't.  *shrug*

I've never pre ordered a game that I felt was unfinished once I played it. And I HAVE ran into the problem of an MMO or single player game being so popular that I could not get a copy at the local game stores on release. I preorder because I want to insure I have it and It is ready when I want to get it. The bonuses are just icing on my cake.

I fail to see how any pre order in any way has an effect on how long a game stays in production. People buying unfinished games is the LONE problem, whether the pre order was up or not, they would still buy the game once it was released  making pre order irrelevant.

At least with drive through you can drive back around and throw it on the counter and make a big scene till they make you something else.

No. It wasnt a mistake. $150 is not a fortune to me either. I made that taking a shit this morning. This game is going to be pretty damn good. Is it going to be perfect? Probably not but for the most part it will be entertaining. Thank you for your concern on everyones well being and how we spend our money. We all look forward to not seeing you in-game.
