hummm i think lots of peoples should get a job and work to be able to pay for the kind of game they play.
If you're not happy with sub game, stay on the f2p boring game with the kids community and gold selling spam. The devs that create, models, program, debugg, test and re-test the game you're playing, if they dont get cash, dont expect anything new ! Dont even expect new MMO, because if i'm right, peoples dont play after the free month or 2-3 month max, maybe thats because is a bad game ?
Peoples still pay to play DAOC today ! That game is 10 years old and peopels still play and have fun ! Oh and its one of the only MMO with a good community where you actualy get an answer when you ask a question... WoW has peoples paying to play.
The whole damn F2P community that want everything free and more free stuff because they dont want to pay, probably because in their fabulous young life they never paid for anything because they had everything free from their father, mother or whatever. This damn community IS the damn reason why MMO that comes out are BS ! The main reason why i dont play many a good game i've tried, but i was tired of being spammed penis, cunt, boobs, fuck you, etc..etc...
Life isnt free... and if it is, then tell me where you live...Dont think anyone want to work for free, why should peoples play games for free ? There's a difference between single player game where there isnt any maintenance to do as in a MMO, why do you think they need the subscription fee ? Dammit peoples are so...
If you cant pay, get a fucking job and GROW UP !
Im not worried about money at all, but we should atleast be given a free expansion if we have subed for a long time. For example, i have subed for WoW for three years, then i should atleast pay less for the expansion. Its kinda pissing me off that expansions costs even more than other PC games.
How much do a WoW player have to pay these days to start WoW? Uh 14.99 for WoW, 19.99 for TBC, 21.99 for WOTLK and 28.99 for CATA. How much is that? 15+20+22+29= 86 bucks to start WoW? (If im right.) If theres a free month per set = 4 months free gametime, i wouldnt whine, but i guess its just 1.
I dont think argue is an option here cause it takes like one week to hit 60 and go to BC. Most of the people spends alot of time to try out new games and wants to be cool as their guildies.
They should atleast give us like 10 gamecredits per month. An expansion costs around 150. Whats so hard about it? A year sub costs around 100 bucks + 50 bucks for a new expansion, thats like 150 a year. You could get 5 new multiplayer onetime pay games for that cash.
And this is my opinions, just stay away from games that turns out to be free to play from start. I just play games that once had a sub. I will never ever touch a game with manga characters cause its always a pay to win and endless grind game, koreans and japanese people might like it, but i dont.
I can pay, but i just give up the games when an expansion comes out. Its way too much for a game. Id rather go to cinema and buy some snacks.
Subs all the way, for 15 bucks a month I get alot of entertainment. People complaining about 50 dollars for the game with consatnt changes and then the 15 dol sub with yearly or less 40 dollar expansions are just cheap asses or kids without a job.
A fee also provides exclusivity if I play GW2 I will still have a subsciption MMO just to escape from all the idiots in it for free whose mom and dad won't pay an online fee.
It's always been difficult for me to take people saying "50 cents a day! Too expensive!" at all seriously.
Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.

Good to hear that im a cheap ass. Its quite funny, an MMO costs around 100 bucks a year (or 150 if you buy one sub per month). Usually you play a MMO game for three years. 300 bucks + 3 expansions = 150 bucks? 450 bucks?
Rofl, and i played Diablo 2 when it used to have alot of content, multiplayer, danger(pvp) and teamwork back in the days? 24.99 for the normal one and 19.99 for the expansion? Thats a total of 25+20=around 45 bucks for years of great gameplay till months into 1.10 when the dupes ruined the game. I got even better experience than most MMOs.
I hope you all noncheap asses still enjoy your MMOs (i have met many players using three accounts lol) cause im going to get diablo 3 and GW2 instead.
When i played vanilla WoW i thought it was way to expensive cause it was crap that time but my guildies made me play. Just skip the cinema and play the game, like that. The upgrades were OK and i enjoyed it a bit more and more for every month and suddenly after paying so much for a game an expansion comes out. Good enough my friends payed the expansion for me cause i used to help them alot ingame.

uh hu. And i could log into my steam account and buy Oblvion Goty for 10 bucks for 600 hours of gameplay.
Why the insults? im probably much more successful than you are. I own several businesses and can litterally buy what i want and I can see P2p for what it is. An overpriced rental.
Choosing to play a game because i want to actually own the content doesnt mean we are unemployed.
Then stay on the F2P MMO and stop asking for every others to get F2P as well !
I didnt insult anyone more than peoples insult me when all they want is everything free, when i love a game but the damn game is going F2P because its THE way that MMO now work and we cant bypass that.
Not everyone has the chance to be successful as you are, lots and way too many just dont want to pay for MMO or cant because like i said, they dont have a job and stay in mom's basement. If you can pay but dont want to, its ok, go for it ! But stop asking for every damn MMO to release to be F2P because you wont be able to actualy own the content !
MMO arent single players games... why is it that hard to understand ? Buy Oblivion, dragon age 1 or 2, starcraft 2 ! Medal of honor, call of duty ! You will have the box, you will be able to play as long as you want for free and there's a reason ! There isnt new content added periodicaly, there isnt update earch weeks, there isnt any maintenance each weeks, why should you pay more if there isnt anyhthing liek that ? I will never pay a sub for game like those.
But MMO devs work their ass off to give players something fun and always funnier where you may pay, but after a while you know you've accomplished something.
If peoples cant understand this lil fabulous description of the way life work with money everywhere in the world, then sorry for the insult but they fail... And they will probably fail all their life and we'll probably have to read the same damn boring shit that they always cry for... i want free stuff.... plz.. plz plz plz plz... freeeeeee...
Now im off this damn forums, shouldnt have posted in the first time, the whole website + forums are infested with F2P fanboy...
The F2P model isnt the successful one its the hybrid, you can't play lotro or conan to cap and raid and be successful without dropping a fair bit of cash into it.
Everyone in life wants everything to be free, heck I will gladly pay my fee knowing that someone in this world has a job to provode me with entertainment. I dread to think the movies I would have to sit and watch if I got my Blu-rays or cinema for free. Heck Im more angry at the parking charges in my town at the moment a day parking costs the same as 1 months subscription to a game.

someone with some sense...
They bring up mmos being cheap. Compared to what? I paid for killing floor a co-op Fps on steam for 9 bucks and already sunk a hundred hours into it thats like three-four months gametime for me in a mmo. games like SC2 cosrs 40 bucks and people have played thousands of hours.
paying 150 bucks a year for a game i dont actually own... or paying 20 bucks for a game i can play forever.
P2p games are nothing but rental services. before u bash f2p games as a money scam think about the games you are playing and how you own nothing. Also check out some other genres before u say mmorpgs are cheap gaming. even 20 cents a day is wasted cash if u dont actually own anything.
Originally posted by Z3R01I generally like your posts but you do realize how badly you've been brain washed into thinking like that? I get that most dont like F2p because a ton of the asian games are Pay to win or sometimes the quality isnt there (again the asian games). But to not see P2p as an incredible waste of money boggles my mind.
What's wrong with thinking like that?
Would you prefer paying 25 USD per month and no retail fee or 180 USD upfront for 1 year service or 15 USD and retail fee of 50 USD or not paying no fee but paying for ingame gear?
There is an offer, you either accept it or not.
It is no scam at all. The offer and conditions are straightforward and clear to understand. It is up to you to pick what suits you the best.

People who play WoW play alone 99% of the time.
My steam clan is bigger than most mmo guilds so its actually a very social experience lol.
The "socialhook" no longer applys to only mmos anymore.
Look at a game like Borderlands its better than every mmo on the market... and i only pay like 20 bucks and own it forever.

Why pay when you can get it for free. "A fool and his money are easily parted" so they say..........lol
Anyway F2P is a trend, there are only so many paying customers and an ever increasing amount of games. MMO games by their very nature(updates and expansions) don't grow old quick like single/mp games. So eventually the market gets flooded
MMOs require population more than any other game for obivous reasons. So how do you as a producer attracted people to your game - go F2P. So the model comes due to high competition in the market place. It is more and more becoming a gamer's market where we decide what to play. And producers are feeling this already.
Whether we pay 15 bucks a month or not the games will remain the same, if not get better.

As long as you understand you dont actually own any of that software your paying to access i dont care. thats the entire point. with a F2p game any content i buy i own. P2p you could sink thousands of dollars into the game and be denied access.
Anyway none of this matter anyway. i;ve said my peace and in 5 or 10 years there wont be any sub games left anyway.
Bring up the subscription model to anyone outside the genre and they will look at you like your retarded for buying into it.
THose same people are the future, the people this industry will be catering to. B2p & f2p will be all that is left.
The way I see a p2p is the same way I see buying a car. Yes I bought the car, but I still need to buy the gas to keep it going. It's the same concept and I have no problem with it. Is F2P the future, possibly. Is it the holy grail omg p2p is ripping you off...no. If you think it's wrong then next car you buy demand they give you your lifes worth of gas so you "own" the car.

But you will be able to play GW2 to cap for free.
The Hybrid model is just an intermediate solution, from reluctant producers that don't want to let go of their cash cow.
I would think that future games will be built from the ground up as F2P. That does not mean they cannot make money, as it is essential that they do, acheived by way of Cash shops and mini transactions. This suits everyone, the gamer is happy as he only pays for what he wants, and the producer is getting an income. It is called stream-lining, not free.

You only buy the fuel you use right? If you don't use your car do you still have to pay for fuel ? No.
So in the F2P model you only buy the bits of the game you want too. It is not 100% free.

I dont play Wow, and never will again. I've played lots of MMO and never played alone. When i played Oblivion, i was playing alone, i downloaded the companion mod, but i was still the only one playing the game.
Didnt knew there was such a steam clan, but i guess that could be the same kind of thing as IRC ? A place where peoples chat ? Or... wait, dont tell me that you're a bunch playing the same single player game and chatting at the same time ? There's place call a Bar where peoples go to have something called "social" You should try sometimes :P
Oh and Borderlands was realy boring... i usualy complete all those kind of game, but this one was realy boring, the only funny thing was the lil robot haha ! Oh and.. if you're wise, you dont have to buy single player game anymore... some call that piracy or something, i call that "not gonna spend my cash on something that i'll complete under a week of time" So.. yeah P2P model is still win win for me and will probably stay like that till the /crying babies that want everything free will make it change...

That comparison would be more apt if MMOs charged by the hour and you had rollover between the months, because obviously you don't pay upfront for your gas for the entire month, and pay the max amount even if you didn't use up all your gas.

I do get your point and I also think that F2P model is better, more flexible but there are limitations as I said in my post above and why P2P games will be around, P2P games with cash shops even.
All models and offers have pros and cons and no model is superior to other in every aspect. It always boils down to what people want and are willing to pay for.
F2P is a scam. The only true F2P MMO's i know is Guild Wars. I'm not playing an MMO where you success is based on how much you are willing to pay. Success in MMO should be based on dedication not how deep your wallet is.
I agree, and I do see several points on box costs for P2P only getting 1 month free.......SWTOR CE=150 USD should get 2 months with that option. But A small and only cosmetic cash shop I do not mind to add more income to a P2P.
As long as you understand you dont actually own any of that software your paying to access i dont care. thats the entire point. with a F2p game any content i buy i own. P2p you could sink thousands of dollars into the game and be denied access.
Test out that theory by getting banned from a game.
"You can deny me access, but that gazomblaster I paid for is MINE and I want it!!"
Should be an interesting court case. Brief, but interesting.

I'm with many others in this thread, hoping GW2 changes the way this industry makes its money off us. Let me buy the game the day it releases for $50-$60 and play it for as long as the servers exist. If I like it, I'm going to buy every expansion anyway and almost certainly things like extra character slots (as long as I was given a reasonable amount to begin with, so I don't feel ripped off, get stubborn, and quit spending my money). It will still come out to $15/mo, give or take a buck or two.
And then...and then...you can frikkin dispense with all the boring repetitious grind! A little grind can be a soothing way to pass some time, but every MMO I can think of right now goes way overboard. They have to know we're falling asleep at the keyboard doing the same damn thing over and over again, so the only reason they're doing it must be to keep us paying longer. That's just not going to cut it anymore, guys.
Trust me, if I fall in love with your game world, and if you are smart enough not to make it a themepark on rails, even if I tear through all the 'progression' content in a month, I'll still find ways to entertain myself until the next expansion releases. I'll pvp, decorate my house, craft everything that can possibly be crafted, color coordinate my gear, roll a bucketload of alts (your chance to make money off me between expansions), and explore.
I am convinced there is only one way to eliminate these grave evils, namely through the establishment of a socialist economy, accompanied by an educational system which would be oriented toward social goals.

And if you want to drive the car for 2 minutes, you pay gas for a whole month!
P2P for the lose
I agree, and I do see several points on box costs for P2P only getting 1 month free.......SWTOR CE=150 USD should get 2 months with that option. But A small and only cosmetic cash shop I do not mind to add more income to a P2P.
Test out that theory by getting banned from a game.
"You can deny me access, but that gazomblaster I paid for is MINE and I want it!!"
Should be an interesting court case. Brief, but interesting.
Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.
IF your only driving 2 minutes a month ditch the car and ride the bus.
F2P for the WTF

The previous statement is true
