"Oh we can't agree on anything."

    "I disagree."

The Groundhog Day analogy is a good one. Welcome to the stagnant pond of MMO anticipation. Most of us are either sick of the games that are out there, don't find the ones we are playing worth talking about, or sick with anticipation for something new, and the gamers that see nothing they are going to like on the horizon is what is driving most of the rancor on these forums, which I honestly can understand to a point. Its bad enough to be frustrated because you don't know when the game or games you want to play will be out. It has to be many times worse when the feeling is you don't know IF a game you want to play will EVER come out.

The bone of new games was chewable for awhile, even for those posters that didn't like them but sadly there seems to be a severe drought of new information as these companies are saving their big announcements for either the next big convention or until they hammer out a concrete release date. So just like Bill Murry in Groundhog Day, we are left twiddling our thumbs with nothing fresh to talk about.

And now this problem has really gone full circle as here we are talking about the problem that we have nothing to talk about. That must be some kind of zen.

I'm not sure about the rest of you here, but I know a great remedy for the MMO Blogging Blahs. Take some time off. So that's what I'm going to do. See you all in a month or so when we may actually have something new to talk about.

BUT that has nothing to do with SWTOR. Eau contrair mon capitan. It just looks that way because my overall nihilistic mood overshadows my postings about SWTOR. I am still greatly looking forward for SWTOR, so go figure.

I'm 49. I just want to tell you that i know from very recent experience, and "thanks" to this economic crisis, that no, family is not an empty word, that friendship is not an empty word, that power is not all there is, and that virtues and truth might seem weak, yes, but they can never be totally destroyed and sometimes their light is stronger than anything.

Problem is that most of the bad people actually DO things , while most good people just live their lives without changing much. So that is why we live the way we live in the world. We need more Jedis :D

I just wanted to say that. Thanks, move along. These aren't the droids you're looking for.

MMORPG.com....it's for the LULZ....for sure. We all need lulz.

*starts to unroll Roman slavemaster's whip* Yeah, work baby, work! image

Most've gone sick of numb of raiding so replace that for some conversation quality time on the forums, you know you can do it image

Generally I'm pretty serious on here, but the minute I try to post something lighthearted I get slammed for it and get fed some sob story about how wonderful and informative the site used to be blah blah blah blah.  (Not by you, mind you.) As a matter of fact, that entire story is just a hypothetical.....like say, MAYBE that would happen to me on here.

But this much I know.....I don't work here.  It's not MY job to be informative and full of knowledge.  My "job" is to read and respond to posts that sometimes DESERVE a serious response, and other times....perhaps do NOT. Sometimes I learn something from articles on here....sometimes they're just for fun.  I like to think of that as B A L A N C E.

If you can't enjoy yourself on a forum site AND get information....it's a pretty shitty site, IMO.  So....I keep reading and posting because well...I'm a gamer and this is what I do when I'm not gaming....read about and talk about GAMES.  Sometimes....that's for the LULZ whether some people like it or not. And the people that don't THINK they need "lulz" probably need them more than anyone.

(This rant really wasn't directed at you, Maverick.) ;)  :P  But it's Groundhog Day, so...it's probably not the last time you'll see it.

nah, it doesn't have to be that way at all. That isn't my experience I can tell you that. Just about the opposite. When I was down my friends brought me up, I have friends who drove up from half the state just to bring me food.

When my father died many of my friends dropped what they were doing, drove to a different state just to attend the funeral. Heck, I did the same thing with another friend of mine.

Ever since i simplified my life, concentrated on the things I wanted and cut out the things I dont', my life has been pretty enjoyable, pretty stress free. I was able to put a good deal into savings so that when I was laid off a few years ago, it wasn't a big deal.

I'm a firm believer in surrounding oneself with truly good people and not investing time and energy into things that really didn't make me happy.

I used to be a somewhat depressed individual when i was much younger but as I got older I re-evaluated my life and made it better.

I may never own many cars or fancy houses or vacation in far off places twice a year but I also have little to no stress, great friends and I enjoy myself within my means.

You can take control of your life, it just takes a paradigm shift and in some cases just "letting go" of the things that really aren't necessary.

    My two cents.

The wishfull bunny dream and all the polite niceties we observe and our foolish clinging to virtues and other drivel are all that keep us from kiling each other in the streets and descending into utter chaos.

Anyway, this thread gives me deja vu (probably mis-spelled that).  What you pointed out has been pointed out before and will be again.  Your defeatest philosophical ramblings have been rambeled before and will be again.

And there are no origianal jokes.

A pickle and a parrot walk into a bar, The parrot takes a seat and says "SQWUAK, why so sour?" To which the pickle replies "what?" The parrot ruffles its feather and repeats "what?"

Yeah basically. I feel like I'm dropping into a war-zone every time I come on here. Decent for news and conjecture (among people of the same faction) though. When I get sick of it, I spend a week just reading Massively.

EDIT: And good for things that don't really require opinions. (I love opinions, just not the way that people on this site tend to present them).

  • spookydomspookydom Member UncommonPosts: 1,782

To the O.P. All the reasons you listed are the reasons I love it. It's better than T.v sometimes.;) Yeah but honestly? ,I feel your pain. Not one month goes by where sometimes I just want to gut the whole community with an axe and dance on their chubby corpses.  At the same time you really shouldn't take things so seriously. If you don't like it here anymore there are plenty of other sites out there. When it gets to much for me I go over to The Escapist. I always end up coming back here before to long though. Have lot's of love for this site.........And also Groundhog day.......Hey! I'm enjoying this thread:)

It's a shame more than anything, because at the time of it's inception MMORPG.com was a premier, top notch source for news related to Massively Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Games. These days it pales in comparison to what it once was.

At one time it was actually all about the news, not the "lulz".

    +1

Site used to be much better.  This site is more cut throat than the df forums used to be and nearly as informative.  Most gamers who are looking for intelligent debate and quality reporting frequent other sites, and just come here for the lulz.

Interesting thought OP great minds think alike. How do you stop this effect then? what is that one sacrificing deed that will break the rut?

I would imagine it will take people creating better topics then WoW killer threads or X-MMO will fail because.....

It will take people with talent to be creative in there writing skills to present to the community a post that goes beyond the almost borderline troll type post. I am not calling anyone here personaly a troll it is just that a nagitive post can be seen as such.

Unfortunately people love controversy np I say but at least lets get more creative.

Absoletely, not that WoW isn't a great game it is. It's the paradigm shift that's occured in game development now. Everyone seems to be afraid to deviate from the WoW forumula, least they not have commercial success.
