That WoW is stale and boring. And very few people still have interest in the game. Sanbox is the wave of the future and theme parks are dying rapidly. So my question is,
How come this game is still alive with 11 mil subs? and if it is so boring why it didn't die out? i mean sites like these are supposed to reflect what the community thinks right? and what games are coming out that can be the next WoW.

What you "get" on forum sites, at least usually, is a lot of jaded MMO players.
Most of us on this site played WoW for YEARS and loved it UNTIL....we got burnt out and became jaded from that and OTHER games we've played as well. You can't go by what forum sites say always....generally for that very reason.
Gamers who are more dedicated to their hobby as a WHOLE, and didn't just start gaming with WoW or have played many more games than just ONE....are often the ones that frequent public forum sites. Most of the people that PLAY WoW now have no idea that this site even exists.
Just my opinion.

Pretty much sums up my feelings on it as well.

This is a cool post, Guile. I like this one and this one, also.
There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein

Nice catch, Lok. Hmm....do I smell little troll feetsies?
Well hey, ya know....don't ALL the cool kids slam WoW and work on getting others to join their anti-WoW fraternity?
I'd say "on topic" now and post something on topic, but I already did that and what I said....I still really believe. Public forums aren't the place to go for news. They're more like the water cooler in an office. Sure....read the articles and find some good information, but if you're counting on the posts to reflect something valuable...that's probably most of the time overly optimistic.

Nah this one is not a troll topic. It was a serious question. I come to this forum and all i see is WoW bashing. I just want to find out why so much hate for this game and yet it's no where near dying.

All people do on this site is complain and try to reach level 5 idiot(stars).
When did you start playing "old school" MMO's. World Of Warcraft?
The numbers are missleading unless you factor in player travel, think of it like this, in the past wow lost probably about the same 300k subs per quarter, but they gained 350k subs in the same quarter, so total numbers grew for years, but recently that has changed, and now their shedding 300k subs per quarter and NOT getting in those new players.
In a nut shell their bleeding out, but it's still going to take another year or two before they lose enough of that 11 million for it to really hurt, if you follow or plot the current figures as a trend by 2013 they will be down to about 10 million, by 2014 their numbers will be bellow 8 or 9 million and thats with an expansion release.
Bottom line is that players will start to leave in greater numbers until eventually it will be closed as is all mmo's "everything that has a begining, has an end neo!".
The good news for those still playing wow, is that it's 11 million, so they have the numnbers to sustain the game for another 4 years at least, by which time their new uber casual mmo will be out and players from wow will just flock to that instead and the cycle will start over.
I still have hopes that blizzard will dump Titan in favour of something a little more open world , sandbox like rather than what their planning, cos I have to say I'm not looking forward to what their planning with titan.
I've been on mmorpg.com for years.
Many think it's a source of helping with game play. IT'S NOT !.....Use the official forums for that.
MMORPG.COM like every other third party forum is more for measuring the pro's and con's of mmo's. And I'm sorry if anyone disagrees but it does it well here. Sure one post or one replay may be wrong. Someone may be pissed or someone may be a fan and give a wrong view.....BUT if you look at the big picture and read many post for an mmo, you ALWAYS get a good picture of how a game is.
In the past year people seem to be bashing WoW. And they should. They changed there game into something else.
Good or bad WoW is not the same, And that is what's being discussed.
I learn :
- When AOC, LOTRO, EQ2 changed to free to play here.
- When Champions Online, Warhammer, LOTRO ( and many others ) went into open bata, and where to find a key.
- When Dev's change a game around good or bad.
- What games have a population or a following here.
After all do you really believe the hype and garbage that developers shove down you face ?.....I knew mmo's like Age Of Connan, and Vanguard was gonna be a flop before hand, because of this site. Yet the official web sites had games like this built up so heavy that you could not think they were the greatest game on earth.
- Because of this site I know Vanguard is becoming popular ( just temporally ).
- Because of this site I am looking forward to GW2, but question SWTOR as it may be to story driven.
MMORPG.COM is a great site, but understand what it's about !!!!
You have to remember.....the population of members on MMORPG.com is only a tiny number of people compared to how many play WoW. Not everyone here hates WoW. If you think that...you're not reading the WoW forums here. There are plenty of positivie WoW posts. It just so happens that a lot of people here played WoW and got SICK of it. That's just happenstance. I think you're making a much bigger deal of it than it is.
There's not an anti-WoW conspiracy here. All games are equally hated upon over the course of time. You just need to read around the forums more, man. We tend to be more pessimistic than optimistic over all. I already told you that I think that's because many of us are long time gamers that have become jaded. However.....if you read around you will see balanced perspectives on things. You just have to look around. Not everyone is jaded, not everyone is negative. And certainly absolutely not everyone hates WoW.

I started playing WoW about a year after it came out and quit (for the last time) in Jan. I can say, it's just not the same game. I think there is tons of frustration with the direction Actiblizz went. This is a company that brings in more money than some small countries and Cataclysm/Ghostcrawler is the best they can do? I've heard excuses made for the last Xpac, the lead developer is off designing "Titan". Hire some more developers nimrods!
WoW was never that hard a game but, it had it's entertainment value. Now it feels like Farmville, the console game. It's stupid easy. It seems like it's target audience must have the attention span of a hyperactive ferret. "I'm way to busy to actaually travel through the virtual world! Transport me instantly there peon!". God forbid you actually take the time to form a group and travel together to your destination. You may actually have to engage in a conversation. Oh no!
Additionally, since it's a gear driven game (leveling is pathetically easy), everybody has to have the best items or they'll rage quit and take their ball with them.
WoW could have been so much more. Now it feels like a boring cash grab. Sadly, Actiblizz gave their customers pretty much what they wanted, so, it's population will drop off some, but it's noy going to die anytime soon.
Because this site caters to the MMO community and not the general gaming community, and even then the MMO community that visit this site is only a minority of the MMO players out there. I don't play WOW anymore but I am not going to bash it, I had my fun but it is time to move on as I am tired of the fantasy genre.
In Bioware we trust!
edit: ok maybe not trolling, but why not trawl through the good discussions, ignore the rest and form your own opinion? Why do you think 11 million players play wow - do you think its because the raid scene is vibrant and exciting, because its not. There are a lot of people who play because they have committed so much time to their mains, and there is no better game to go to - that is not healthy.

I believe the reason why there is so much negativity against WoW on this site is because everyone who still likes WoW is too busy playing WoW to bother wasting their time posting here.
On the other hand, the people who are now bored of WoW, generally don't have anything else to do except frequent this site waiting for the next big news on their next highly anticipated MMO. Furthermore, they want to ensure that their next MMO is truly next gen, and does not resemble the "been there done that" feeling of WoW.
I'm sure there are people who are curently playing WoW and still visit this site, but not nearly as many people who are simply bored of WoW or never liked it to begin with.
Anyway, back to the topic.
I myself have never played WoW, but I do have a lot of friends that do very hardcore. Like what one fellow said, most people that play now don't even know of this site. They use the WoW fourms, or thier guild site to talk about the game.
I come here because it reminds me of a rumor mill, people always talking about things, and most of the time you can get some good information. If the game has 11 Millon subs, then it's not too bad or changed for the worse too much. I understand where you're coming from though.
you are being a little patronising and making assumptions, WOW has issues, many good players have left wow, and are happy to debate wow, amongst other games on this form, thats the point of the forum (and you get trollers, but you need to be smart and ignore them eh). Incidently there is DAOC,LOTR,AOC,EVE amongs others that are very very good, and getting played by ex wow players. Maybe you have time to talk on forums when you are not locked into a raid for 4 hours solid regularly :P

if its a serious question..... then why do you ask why ppl on these forum bash wow yet you are part of the WoW bashing team?....
read the post #4 which has 2 links to other older post of you bashing WoW lol... taht was hilarious
My favourite opening post in recent days. Not wow bashing, but it does describe one of the core issues - may answer op post if it is serious.

After years of not playing WoW (since WAR was released, maybe 3 or 4 years), my friends finally convinced me to come back. The PvP is still fun, but also still pointless. Other than completing a weekly quest and gaining a nice chunk of honor, Tol Barad is pointless. The gear grind has become much easier (which is good for me because I hate the grind), but the game still revolves around gear. After I'm in full BG gear, there is nothing left to do than to get Arena gear.
My friends seem to love doing dailies and getting rep for mounts, something I find boring. Other people must love them too because there is a shitload of dailies now. Another thing they love is getting Guild Exp. Almost none of the percs seem worthwhile to me.
So basically, the game is still a gear grind with less grind (pvp or pve). All there is to do on the side is craft, get rep, get guild exp, and do dailies. You would think after all these years WoW would have evolved but it hasn't. That being said, WoW is still the most polished and fluid MMO on the market. Nothing I have played since I quit can compare to the quality. Still, I find myself getting more bored each day I play. It's the same thing I was doing 3 years ago, just easier.
And once your guild hits max level....it's even MORE boring. You just outlined most of why I left when I did. Logging in to play became a chore. It took all my will to do any dailies.....blah. Once you've done everything....you've just done everything. And I had no will to turn around and do it with the rest of my 80s. I only did it with one before I was bored again. There was no will left to level all the alts. Blah.

have a peek at Age of Conan if you have not already done so, these days pc's have caught up with the game and it is gorgeous with interesting levelling, actually feels old-school wow, but with a more adult feel.

Yeah, I tried AoC before, then just recently for the f2p. It was pretty cool, but I didn't feel it deserved a sub fee. The cash shop for end game was a huge rip off as well. I would have kept playing if not for that. I would have spent money here and there, but you are gimped at end game unless you sub.
MMORPG is for PVP, and WOW makes an excellent topic to do battle over.
