With top end no grade gear you can currently get to level 20 in about 10-20 hours. Obviously most of you who posted in this thread have not played Lineage 2 in a very long time so I do not know why you offer an opinion on a game that you know longer know anything about. Or you are just pathetically bad at playing MMO's.
If you are going to offer and opinion at least have the correct facts about how the game currently is, not how it played over a year ago or in Beta.
I would not comment on a game such as EQ, which had some incredibly hellish levels 50-60 back in Kunark, the last time I played. Obviously things have changed greatly, so why comment on things you obviously know nothing about anymore.
The guy posted a question about being PK'd in Lineage 2, not about all your personal opinions on L2. Atleast answer the freakin question he asked.
What is that saying about opinions anyway......opinions are like (BLANK!) everyone has one.
I closed beta tested this game and the only reason why i left it was becuase of not the open pvp system. But the fact that when you die to a pker you have a chance to drop item's that you have. Last time i was playing on kain there where groups of gankers out there. They will keep killing you over and over to try and make you drop your rare sword or armor. That's the mian reason why i hate this game.
I NEVER post negatively about ANY game....except this one.
I loved it at first! The graphics were great, fun fighting skills and really good interface and zones. Then reality set in at about level 15ish when you run into pk'ers and farmers and bots.
Now I have no problem getting ganked in pvp. It's something that doesn't even faze me. But in this game there are SO many botters, griefers and adena farmers its really and truly sad. The game does NOTHING about them so if your a real player who enjoys the game for what it is, your an incredible minority in Lineage II.
The drop rates are horrible, having about a 1 in 27,000 chance to get a good drop off any mob. The grind in this game is legendary and loathesome. Here are some helpful things you will hear from the denizens of this twisted world:
"RANG RANG"
"ALL YOUR ADENA ARE BELONG TO ME"
Don't touch it with a 10 foot pole attached to another 10 foot pole.
Sorry NCsoft, but botters run and ruined your game.
Bah I don't know why I jumped into this troll war, as you can see this is either a love it or hate it game. I personally love this game and I ask all those naysayers to find me a game with better, cooler and more challanging bosses to fight for end game. I guess what drives me to play this game so much is that I am a huge Final Fantasy fan and the bosses in Lineage 2 are very Final Fantasy. Also the armour and items absolutly slaughter anything else out there......errr must resist this flame war. That's about the 1/2 cent this thread is getting from me.
Originally posted by Votan L2 is the hardest game to level in although they have made things MUCH easier for lower levels in C3, but post 60 it is still a real grind. I also fail to understand people all these games are basically the same, but everyone thinks the game they are currently playing is the best. It is all kill, level, get skills, rinse and repeat. It may be packaged differently with instances, quest, skill based, but it is still the same thing.
No not all MMORPGs are the same. I do agree the majority of them are the same. But consider this:
AO - One can level up without doing any killing at all. AO recently changed this in that to go to the next level, one must kill at least 1 NPC. For example say you need 10,000 xp to reach level 20. You can get 9,999 xp from not killing (doing crafting, or non-killing missions). But to go to the next level you must kill 1 NPC.
SWG - currently the best mmorpg out that allows OTHER playstyles other than having to kill, kill, kill. There are more than 30+ professions, many, many, of them involve no killing of players or NPCs at all.
Even in the majority of mmorpgs that require killing, there is the difference of setting, storyline, scenery, mood, etc... For example EvE takes place in space with some stunning backdrops of different types of spacestations, and more. EQ2 has intresting areas. RuneScape (yes RS LOL!) has intresting areas. Even EQ has many intresting areas - like the Tree Elf City and more. AO has a unique cyber/punk/industrial setting like in the mega capital city.
yeah i used to play this game in 1 month after openbeta i got fed up of dark elves using mortalblow on me, low levels hitting me, setting me up so when i hit then there friend kills me.
its horrible. i give it a 4/10 for graphics and boat rides

Yes and no. It'll happen sometimes and sometimes it won't. Helpful answer eh?
My now rather aging experience from the L2 beta (and, otherwise, PvP servers in general) is that most folks do not randomly attack (except for the newbie zones). However, there are definitely those who do and when they do it's very frustrating.
Two of my experiences in L2..
There were a couple of players working together in the newbie areas who would gank anyone without friends near by. They seemed to be quite stronger than the average character in the area. Though not common, that's their typical approach.
Second, I was running around with a good friend of mine and we were attacked by three or four others as soon as we left the city area. We handed their various bits back to them but they jumped us as a group with no provocation.
Generally speaking however I ran around without a great deal of trouble. The real question that you need to ponder is if you will be able to deal with uncommon moments of incredible frustration. Random attackers are almost always of much higher level and/or travel in packs and they'll target you over, and over, and over. Just because.

Lineage II has more players, by a long shot. I still haven't figured out why.
Do a search on this site for "PC BANGS". Or search my forum name "Xplororor". I have posted why Lin, Lin2, and FFXI all have "many players". My information, proofs, facts, and examples have been soo overwhealming, that even Sir Bruce has put my information on his site. (Though he has yet to say he was directly influenced by me. Even though I was the first to post on this forum, and others, about PC BANGs.)
1. -> Korea leads the world in internet access for the masses. Anyone age 5 to 80 can get on the internet, use a modern computer, play any new game, for $1.oo anytime 24hrs, any day of the week. They do not even have to buy the game, nor own a computer..... since PC Bangs have special cracking programs allowing them to make their own CD Keys. (I have personally witnessed this myself.) Asia also does not recignize copyrights. Or if there are any Asian countries that do, it is near impossible to enforce copyright laws.
2. -> Korea, and Asia, also have an anti-American, and anti-non Asian attitude. Any non-Korean, non-Asian company that tries to open shop in Korea, and Asia, is given a hard time. ALL Korean, and Asian games exist in a vacume, or near vacume market. For example Japanese rice farmers sell their rice with no competition from anyone else. The Japanese goverment does not allow American rice to be sold in Japan at all. The Japanse rice farmers are super successful. Is it because their rice is better? Or because they exist in a vacume market? Same with Lineage 2, and all other Asian/Korean mmorpgs. Lineage tried to market itself in the "west" aka non-asian countries and TWICE failed. The majority of Lin and Lin2 players are in Korea. Why? Because Korean gamers have no choice but to play Lineage and Lineage 2!
3. -> Non-Asian companies have not aggresivly targeted Asian gamers or the Asian market. So it is two swords at work here making sure Korean/Asian games have insane numbers of players, and exist in a vacume market. IF more non-Asian companies would aggressivly target the Asian market, then they would easily double the number of accounts. Heck, most mmorpgs do not even aggresivly target the European market! They act as if all gamers are in America LOL!
AnarchyOnline was the first major MMORPG to aggressivly target the European market, and make a notable effort to target the Asian market (not as much as they targeted the European market though.) Anarchy Online is made by a company out of Norway.
Astonia 3 was the first ever mmorpg to primarily target the European market first, and American market second. But alas, it is not a major mmorpg. Though it is doing well for a Mom and Pop mmorpg. Astonia 3 is made by a German company.

There are other full fleged MMORPGs that have some intresting PvP ... some form of forced PvP:
Runescape - In the far northern area of the game world, anyone can attack, kill, and loot almost anyone. The further north you go, the more likely and possible it is for anyone in the game to fight you, kill you, and loot your stuff (...if they beat you. You get to loot them if you beat them.)
EvE Online - In certain areas (roughly 75% of the game) one can attack, kill, and loot anyone.
Strive For Power - The ONLY mmorpg with.... perma-death! You die 1 time and that is it! The next thing you see is the character creation screen LOL!
Anarchy Online - In certain areas players from different factions can attack and kill any player from the opposing faction. You can even take land owned by other players/guilds.
Dark Age of Camelot - In certain areas you can kill any player from a different faction.
Star Wars Galaxies - There is NO single safe spot in the ENTIRE game! You can attack and kill any player from the opposing faction anywhere in the entire game! In any city, any building, even in the hospital, cantina, or even in the city players first start out in! Since SWG has no zones, you can chase down your enemy no matter where he or she tries to run. And they can do the same to you heh LOL!
Thanks for all the feedback on L2. Since the overall opinions seem to sway 10:1 against the game I think I'll be avoiding this one.
As far as Asians being "Anti-American", I was a part of the first wave of American players on FFXI, and its been my experience that the Japanese were nothing but friendly and more than willing to help us get started. That is until people started taking their help for granted, getting angry when they wouldnt help, and generally insulting them. I witnessed US/Japan relations plummett first hand on that game. Also, I happen to know that Japan makes it tougher for ANY foreign company, not just American ones, to start a business there to keep their own economy going strong. We do it here too with taxes added to foreign goods, and a lot of other red tape, just not to as much the extreme which is why you see a lot of ads urging people to "Buy American", because foreign companies are doing so well here they hurt business for US companies, so I dont think thats a fair statement to make. As far as Korea....dont know, couldnt tell ya.
I dont like the idea of losing my stuff to PK'ers. Just means that if I happen to get anything good, I'll just become a walking target. Plus I like quests....seems L2 has few of them. I've heard a lot of complaints about NCSoft themselves, I've played CoH and had no complaints about them from it. Different teams on different games I'm assuming. "Grinding" I dont find to be a problem, at least not if it's only at high lvls and the rewards are worth it, which from the feedback here I've decuced is not the case. My personal style of play sort of makes me an adventurer first, crafter second. I enjoy crafting, but exploring, treasure hunting, and beast slaying is foremost for me, but from what I'm reading here today, L2 just seems like one big PvP romp which is cool for the hardcore PvP'ers, and honestly I'd like to try PvP someday, but this doesnt sound like a good place to start.
I've heard some good things about Lineage II, and it looks like a pretty cool game that I'd like to try, but I've also heard some unsettling things about it as well, mostly about the open PvP.
From what I understand, there's nothing stopping other people from randomly killing your character without provocation in Lineage II save for the delicate thread of morality some posess that can snap at any moment when you're nearby. I was really wondering if PK'ing is rampant. If I spring for this game (since I have to at least buy the game to play the 'free' trial) will I be killed by random jerks at the turn of every corner? Will I lose exp, or incurr some death penalty from being killed by other players? Do players get exp and/or steal my items if I'm killed by them? Things of that nature. If it's too much of a bother I'll save my money and try something else.
*edit* Um...just noticed a few minutes after posting this that there are seperate boards for seperate games. Apologies for posting this here instead of on the Lineage II boards. On that note, botting seems to be an issue too. Since this is already posted here, any comments on that also?
Only thing you have to fear is the wrath from the Bnet sheep and the Guild War fanatics.

You are crazy as a fruitcake. We're warning him that there's NOTHING TO DO in this game. You can: Grind or PVP
That's the limit of it's content. There's no crafting system worth mentioning. No quest system worth mentioning. Character generation is a freaking joke. The graphics are decent but they immediately kill any graphical interest I have in the game due to the fact that the characters are completely anime' looking (poke-e-mon lookin) and the elves look like they have a pole rammed up their rear whenever they run anywhere. Generally the animation is sub-par.
Also: "With top end no grade gear you can currently get to level 20 in about 10-20 hours"
And just how many new players can afford "Top end no grade gear"? Hmmm? Please enlighten us. Sure you can get twinked out and level fast as sin. But a new player isn't going to get twinked now is he? We are giving an HONEST answer.
Lineage II is a gorgeous world with sub-par character graphics (imo) it had a ton of potential during beta and at initial release but they have never added any depth to the game. If all you want to do is PVP there are better games out there that will get you into the action quicker.
It's got a great PVP system and that's about it.

I agree, all of the MMO's (I've played all of them except SFP... I like versions of Permadeath but it's a bit overdone in that one ) above have some form of PVP but only EVE has "forced" PVP among them. And EVE bores me to tears. I beta'd it. I tried it at release and quit. Tried 3 free trials since then and just can't get into the game. Gorgeous graphics and a decent PVP system but I just don't like it's combat interface. (I HATE point-and-click travel... especially in space, I like more direct control)
SWG has the best PVP system out of the ones you mention, in my opinion. But it also isn't *forced* PVP, it's voluntary But it is awesome and LOTS of players engage in it. Also, if you notice my sig, it's also the MMO I currently primarily play. (I occasionally play PlanetSide, which is excellent PURE PVP by the way, and EQ2 since I have the SOE All Access Pass)

Sure they have increased drop rates in the newbe area's for equipment, and you now can trade in low gear for full value to equipment vendors towards the purchase of your next no-grade upgrade. It does not take that long.
You are commenting about a game you no longer know anything about, NOT an honest answer. Once again the poster asked about being PK'd in L2 not about anything else. He did not ask for everyones dated opinion of a game that they no longer play. But I guess you can not give an HONEST anwser to the question the poster asked cause you DO NOT play the game anymore!!! I quess that is to much for you to grasp.....
Ahh but seeing that you are playing (from my beta experience, and free month nothing else) the biggest piece of crap to ever hit the market in SWG. This is one boring game, and talk about an over-hyped game....this game has got to one of the biggest flops of all time. They expected this game to be as big if not bigger than WoW is. But do to a ton of problems at launch and a game that was in general a horridly boring game, did not draw anywhere near the players that SOE and Lucase thought. Do to my horrible beta experience and limited play at launch, a game in which I have not played in a very long time, nor read the patches or any of the expansions, stay away from this piece of crap game
My very dated, probably now untrue, HONEST opinion in which I really have no right to make on the game you are playing.
I really don't think you have any need to be afraid of this game. As long as you can accept a random death or fight to the death here and there. This game is truly a grind but as previously stated most games have a grind element in them. It is a beautiful word and has some basic fighting skills. But as far as it goes, the players who are still playing are high levels and not too many new players to fight with in the newbie areas. Botting does run rampant and farming is just what happens. This is by no means a great North American game because it lacks great character customization and there are certain weapons and armor that everyone uses at certain levels. What turned me off is the grades of weapons. Cmon C and D grade just isn't cool enough for me. I want better names for these. Pretty much it's a great game that is tough to level and gives you very little reward for your efforts. But as far as getting killed all the time, you will notice that players like to hunt one another and that they hardly pay attention to the little guys.
But I do note that you only argued with the levelling speed and not the fact that there's not much depth, content or variety to the game. Nor did you argue the fact that it's a linear system rather than skill based and there are no, none, zero, zip, non-combat oriented professions in the game. The only remotely 'crafter' profession is only available to dwarves, and even that one requires the player to kill stuff in order to level up. If they don't level up they will never be able to craft higher tier items.
All of the existing content is oriented towards 'grinding' or PVP. This is according to a friend of mine who still plays. There are very very few quests and those that are in the game have no real point to them. They are all "go kill 20 dogs and bring back their ears" kind of quests.

I never did. L2 does have lot of grinding, although much less so as I was trying to point out and the quests for the most part are as you say. L2 is not a game that is going to appeal to everyone, just like every other game out there. I personally hate questing I would rather grind it out in a game that has open PvP and some kind of end game with sieges and politics at least on my server between guilds. But that is ME
Each game is going to appeal to certain people and not others. If the game does not appeal to you do not play it. However to continue to post about a game in which you obviously did not like, have not played in a long time, no longer have up to date accurate information on, I fail to see why you and everyone else would continue to post on on a game knowing you no longer have the facts about the current state of the game.
You would feel the same way if someone had posted a similar question about SWG (or any of the other people who have posted here and it was there game) about getting PKd and you got the same responses we have gotten in this thread by people who no longer play the game, while not even answering the question asked, because THEY CAN'T but felt the need to give an out dated opinions that were NOT ASKED FOR.

Ahh but you see the difference here is I didn't start a thread flaming L2 out of the blue (which is what most people do). Nor did I tell someone saying "I'm thinking about switching to this game can someone tell me what to expect". I replied to a thread asking if he should stay away and stated that it was my opinion that the game was boring, too much of a grind, etc. I didn't state it as a "you won't like it" just as an "I didn't like it because of this this this and that". He very specifically asked people to state why they thought the game was a bad idea. Thus he got the responses he did. Had he posted something like "How do I get started in L2?" I'd have stayed away from the thread altogether.
I never have problems with people who respond to a question about the game with the reasons THEY don't like it as long as they give details of why. Not just "This game sucks!" or whatever. I enjoy intelligent debate.

basicle its grind for levels grind for money, and if high levels get bored/decide to quit theyll go on a rampage killing lower levels. they have low reward quest (worthless unless your a NEWBIE)

Elnator to refresh you memory the above is what the poster asked. To answer the above questions you would need to still be playing the game correct?
The poster was not asking as you claimed if they should stay away, they asked for the above information about the game...not about grinds, questing, nor did he ask for peoples opinion about Lineage 2. He asked for some very specific information about game play.
And your response and many others here failed to do that and instead your answer to the above questions was "5 words stay away from this game" which would have been a fine answer if he was asking that question. At least you have been intelligent and coherent while we have been arguing unlike most of the other posters here that can not even put a good sentence together
I concede the point. When I replied I was replying to his topic rather than the body of his post. I still stand by my response that people should stay away from this one Unless they just enjoy grinding and PVP.

AO has a unique cyber/punk/industrial setting like in the mega capital city.
yeah i used to play this game in 1 month after openbeta i got fed up of dark elves using mortalblow on me,
low levels hitting me, setting me up so when i hit then there friend kills me.
its horrible. i give it a 4/10 for graphics and boat rides
Is that worth your money?
lol mysk was this openbeta on bartz?
Anarchy Online was the first major MMORPG to aggressivly target the European market, and make a notable effort to target the Asian market (not as much as they targeted the European market though.) Anarchy Online is made by a company out of Norway.
Since the overall opinions seem to
sway 10:1 against the game I think I'll be avoiding this one.
As far as Asians being "Anti-American", I was a part of the first wave
of American players on FFXI, and its been my experience that the
Japanese were nothing but friendly and more than willing to help us
get started. That is until people started taking their help for
granted, getting angry when they wouldnt help, and generally insulting
them. I witnessed US/Japan relations plummett first hand on that game.
Also, I happen to know that Japan makes it tougher for ANY foreign
company, not just American ones, to start a business there to keep
their own economy going strong. We do it here too with taxes added to
foreign goods, and a lot of other red tape, just not to as much the
extreme which is why you see a lot of ads urging people to "Buy
American", because foreign companies are doing so well here they hurt
business for US companies, so I dont think thats a fair statement to
make. As far as Korea....dont know, couldnt tell ya.
I dont like the idea of losing my stuff to PK'ers. Just means that if
I happen to get anything good, I'll just become a walking target. Plus
I like quests....seems L2 has few of them. I've heard a lot of
complaints about NCSoft themselves, I've played CoH and had no
complaints about them from it. Different teams on different games I'm
assuming. "Grinding" I dont find to be a problem, at least not if it's
only at high lvls and the rewards are worth it, which from the
feedback here I've decuced is not the case. My personal style of play
sort of makes me an adventurer first, crafter second. I enjoy
crafting, but exploring, treasure hunting, and beast slaying is
foremost for me, but from what I'm reading here today, L2 just seems
like one big PvP romp which is cool for the hardcore PvP'ers, and
honestly I'd like to try PvP someday, but this doesnt sound like a
good place to start.
In L2, American is the worst than any other races.
Which FF Character Are You?
You are crazy as a fruitcake. We're warning him that there's NOTHING TO DO in this game. You can:
Grind
or
PVP
That's the limit of it's content. There's no crafting system worth mentioning. No quest system worth mentioning. Character generation is a freaking joke. The graphics are decent but they immediately kill any graphical interest I have in the game due to the fact that the characters are completely anime' looking (poke-e-mon lookin) and the elves look like they have a pole rammed up their rear whenever they run anywhere. Generally the animation is sub-par.
Also:
"With top end no grade gear you can currently get to level 20 in about 10-20 hours"

-Saft
You are correct, my information is outdated.
