What confuses me about this article is all the "story" agonizing going on. The actual story quests are specific to your class - you can have friends join you for them, but they will just be spectators who can't affect any of the choices. Anyway, story quests are a minority of the content. Most of your levelling will be done through the side quests, which are the same for everyone on the same faction. I suppose you could say that these have a kind of story to them, since they mostly reference the specific planet they're set on, but these local stories end as soon as you blast off for the next planet in the progression.
There wont be any sidekick or mentoring system to solve the lvl difference for friends? Imo any new lvlbased MMO should have this, or automatic downscaling of your lvl if you are going to play lower lvl content.
We already have multiple 'static' groups forming up over at OTG, complete with subs (if necessary) - and this is what, 3 months or so + till launch? It looks like it can work, if you're willing to do the 'work' Of course, we'll see what happens on release !
I have a friend named x who asked me to make an x char........He knows I go ape $hip and totally consume the content in nanoseconds, while he has a family etc... which only allow him a few hours a week to play.......Thats what extra characters are for.....Slowpoking it with real friends........Just a thought.
Sounds like many people here need better friends. I have for years made an alt that I only play when friends are on and they do likewise. I have nvr had the trouble of my friends out lvling me on the group toons.
I can level like no ones business, and often my main toon does out lvl the group but, as soon as my frinds get on I switch. Why ? because I respect my friends and they respect me. Have friends that don't do this for you ? then you need to review who you call a friend.
The trouble is that everyone levels at their own pace. Not everyone has the same amount of time to play. Some of my friends with who I play MMO's with, lvl a lot slower because of that. They dont even have the time to also lvl an alt.
A mentoring system or content that scales to lvl, deals with this. Especially if you are not interested to rush to endgame only so you can meet up with friends.
Any lvlbased MMO should have a mentoring system because of this imo. Its also very good for guilds so that guildies can help each other better. Without having way too high lvl friends in your group that one shot everything.

Thats what a mentoring system is for. Creating an alt just to be able to play with friends, is a bad compromise.
I dont think this is enough. Need a side kick system of some sort. Anything to close the level gap so I can play with friends is a must! They already have a mechanic in play for this as you can do GB with anyone of any level. It just needs to be added to PvE areas.
I like grouping; it's most of the fun of any MMO. Me and my bro are gonna play this one together like we did WoW and Rift before... Hope we both can manage to stay interested in our mains before I start soloing off with a new main and overlap our existing pair. I'm a bit of an altoholic until I find a class I really like...
Basically this is the major problem with leveling designs. If you are not really close in level with your friends grouping is either a no experience for them or none for you situation. That is why any major studio designing a MMO needs to have a lobotomy if they decide on a class level system and why SWTOR will just be another Wow with a star wars theme. Boring and dumb.

Bright indications singe cool undisciplined hours.
