I actually suggested in another thread that games need meme/asshole servers, where if somebody either constantly spouts memes or is an asshole in chat, you report them to a GM, a GM checks the logs, and banishes them to the appropriate server if necessary.

It would be like being in the worst kinds of hell if you got sent there, but it would tidy up the other servers at least.

I think this is an idea so brilliant that it should be suggested to all developers as a means of cleaning up their communities.  Brilliant I say!  I also think that after their 3 day banishment (or however long) they should be given the option of STAYING on the douchebag server where that sort of behavior is expected and tolerated by all.  Who knows?  They might enjoy playing together and it would solve multiple problems.  if they want to go back to the regular community...they could also do that.

I can already hear someone bitching, "But that is making morality decisions for people."  No....that is an attempt to corral people into having common courtesy.  I'm not saying that if someone says "fuck" they should get banished to the other server. I'm saying that if someone is griefing they do.

    Just my opinion.

I guess  you dont like ffa pvp gmaes too. Where idiots like that are just killed again and again and quit after. But ffa pvp is for psychos like we are being told by members of this site. :DDD

I usually kick the guy who accuses the other kid of being dumb.

It's not a foolproof solution, sometimes the other kid really IS dumb.

But at least it gets the blowhard out of the group.

Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.

I can see it already. You're about to start an epic story mission that you've been wanting to conclude for hours. You're all hyped up, looking for a group for it and from the chat window you read, "Snape kills Dumbeldore!", except replace that with the storyline of your current concluding mission.

    Would make me rage.

But here, in a MMO full of story, decisions and possible spoilers, HOW can we play? I mean, I recently watched some leaked videos of group play, and OMFG some people are SO DUMB.

Like, imagine, you play story X, and some dumb bloke spoils the end, like "ah no matter in chapter 3 NPC X is going to betray you anyway. ha ha". Or you REALLY feel like playing good and this mean guys always chose dark side, no matter what you try, and yes you may get your light points, but the ENTIRE questline now this "Captain" is dead. End of story.

There are just SO DAMN MANY possibilities I can think of where being dumb or mean can just so ruin my gameplay. And that really makes me afraid of what can be.

    So, what you think? image

Ignore pretty simple. And group with friends or people you have got to know. If you rely on pickup and put no effort into the game you get what you seserve.

In (early) SWG I would deal with them in a couple of ways:

1: Create a droid with an insulting name such as "Nekko wears a dress" and have it follow them around forever.

2: Take them up on their offer to duel you and simply toss a Combat Medic disease and poison on them, end the duel and watch their bars turn black.

    3: Perma-Kill their pets.

4: Concentrate on killing them first in any PVP they are spotted in.

5: Set up vendors all around their main vendor, selling the same thing for half the price.

these are some of the things that made SWG fun. I doubt SWOR will be quite as good.

ROFl, I remember someone tried that on me once, I used to wear noob crap all the time up until someone accepted duel (macro to equip good gear). He actually asked to duel me, tried putting a fire dot and a disease on me, then ending duel. Of course he started laughing, but stopped two seconds later, because all dots were gone, I had doc skills lmao. Needless to say he became a priority target in PVP.

Yes, but we can use that only when it's too late and some damage is done. I wish Bioware would have a strict policy against ingame spoiling for instance.

I'm sure someone has already addressed this (I'm too lazy to read through all two pages concerning this thread), but there is an easy solution and one concern regarding your plight.

    1.  If you want to see a specific thread of story in an instance, just group with your friends and decide that you're going to go that certain route.  Instances (or Flashpoints), are repeatable, so you can simply just go through with friends to do it the way you wish; or you can just enjoy the experience and hope that you out-roll your group when it comes to decisions.

    2.  The fact that you want a "strict policy", or what's known in adult speak as a "gag order", is not only morally wrong, but against the 1st Amendment (for those playing in America).  You can't tell people what they can and cannot say.  You can put in parental controls so that you can't see me say things like "******" or "*******", but you can't stop a person from talking about the game.  That's leading to a totalitarian and micro-managing dev staff.

I really hope you don't run for political office.

If you're worried about "dumb" or "mean" people online, you are either new to the internet or have some sort of complex. Or both.

I think you didn't really understand what I meant. In a MMO like WOW or EQ, no one can spoil your story, because there IS none. Ever considered that?

Well SWTOR won't be the first game that worries about Spoilers.......

    You either

    1. choose a really good guild to play through it with

    2. Play through the Major story solo first, so at least you know the general plot already, not many major plot to be spoiler afterwards.

Otherwise, I don't think you can do much about it.

I understand the reasons behind this... but isn't it sad when we enter a MMO and then must shut down the chat to have our peace? :/

Another alternative is to grove a thick skin and deal with it.  I'm not trying to troll you here, but worrying that "someone" in the "future" may do "something" you don't like that "ruins" your day is just silly.  Why worry about it you you can be almost absolutley certain that at some point in your life it WILL happen?  Here is a small spoiler for you - Someday you will die and that will be the end of YOUR story.  Should you really worry about it now though?  Not unless you want ulcers.

Bloody hell, you just ruined my day :(

But honestly I agree, no point in worrying in things that you can't prevent.

Handle it the way you would with most drama queens, and people who cry, and make ridiculous statements all the time. You learn over time to ignore 'em, and not take anything they say seriously.

If these people bother you enough to get this worked up then maybe you should not be playing MMOs. I'm not trying to be mean, but if you have trouble accepting the consequnces of others in your community, and, if you choose to stay in that community, then you are just torturing yourself.

  • TechleoTechleo Member Posts: 1,984

My answer to a bad community element is to ignore them. Form a guild with likeminded friends. Enjoy the game.

  • czekoskwigelczekoskwigel Member Posts: 458
I completely understand where you are coming from, and I find it rather ironic that the majority of posts in this thread simply serve as examples of the DUMB and MEAN people we are likely to encounter in-game.

I'm an RP'er, and I'm very much looking forward to this aspect of the game. I kind of see difficult players as a bit of a challenge for me to stay in character. Look at them as another part of your personal story, as NPCs that are trying to get in the way of your objectives.

That being said, their impact can be minimized by finding yourself a good guild and surrounding yourself with people who aren't douchebags :)

No, not really. I don't turn on conservative talk radio when I'm driving to work either, for similar reasons.

So people who don't share your opinion of how a game should be experienced are "dumb" or "mean"?
