Maybe its a little early to start thinking about this stuff?
But I was just wondering how many Expansions it will take to make a level cap increase its already high as it is, but do you think ANet will give us a level cap increase a few years down the road?
I'd also like to know what they mean by expansions? Like just a patch with new dungeons, more PVP zones etc. is an expansion or like a WoW expansion with new zones, races, levels, classes etc.

probly addeding more pvp stuff dungeons and other things . maybe more classes like guild wars one has. i dont know its up in the air atm so we have to wait on lline ^_^.
.....
Refer to GW1 or do some research, Anet will release full expansions with new zones and content.
They want to get away from the GW1 system of releasing entire standalone games on a fixed schedule for two reasons. The first is that it adds complexity to new players, and the second is that they felt constrained by the deadline and constantly felt like they needed to leave things out to meet it. (From the part about why GW Utopia was cancelled http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Guild_Wars_Utopia)
My speculation would be that they'd release smaller updates more often, indivdual zones, dungeons, personal story options, that kind of thing. Then also with big, game altering expansions coming less often to give them more time to do develop. We do know there will be new dynamic events added to the game for free after launch to try to keep the world fresh.
GW1 never raised the level cap so we really have no precedent for when or even if they'll decide to do that.

I hope they do eventually, I'd hate being level 80 forever lol!
I think the expansions will probably focus on new areas and continuing the story. I mean, we'll only be going up against one of the Elder Dragons at realease, so that gives plenty of room to add things like hunting down the other dragons, which will in turn lead to new areas. So mostly story like the GW1 xpacks.
In expansions, they'll likely be adding new areas that come with more dynamic events, and more personal story beyond the original to address each one of the Elder Dragons.
I gathered this from comments like "so and so dynamic events planned for initial release" and "Crystal Desert/Cantha/Elona will no be available upon initial release".
Anything related to PvP, including additional content, will more than likely be free updates available to everyone much like in the first Guild Wars.
katanas would be totally bitchin'.
They would only be another skin for a sword.
I dont really want a level cap increase, this is just the old routine to get longer subs from the players. GW2 should be more innovative in these means as well, they dont want us to grinds the quests and dungeons to get to the level cap, leveling curve is already flat(so it is not a curve xD), they want players to get the feeling of accomplishing something on tyria and being helpful and heroic. So that way instead of getting new levels just for bigger damage numbers, higher hp bars and imba skills, they should just add new dungeons that feels better, promotes teamwork, involves mini-game mechanisms using the item-based skill system to accomplish them and lots and lots of more character customisation.
i expect an expansion that includes dwarfs leaving their shells and joining the cause. Also they have cantha and elona both with awesome story in their hands to play, Although cantha seems a bit isolated right now.
GW has never really been about lvls. Yes, they raised the lvl cap, but they've even stated that it's not the main focus of the game. It seems to only really exist for 2 purposes, 1 as a sort of way to allow players to warm up to the game before diving into the heavier content, and 2 as a way of segregating story elements into easier and harder content.
As others have stated, expansions will most likely introduce new dungeons, skills, cosmetics / achievements (new armor / weapons / etc.). They may even introduce new classes. While this game does appear to be different from GW1 in a lot of ways, their design philosophy hasn't really changed. We can expect to see a lot of similar design elements in GW2 as existed in GW1, however many look to be heavily evolved / improved in some ways or another.
It's also probably that they will do some sort of ramp-up updates to prepare for each expansion. Adding smaller bits of new content / storyline to prepare for the larger updates / expansions, giving them more time to flesh out each one.
- That said, I'd suggest trying to step away from the usual vertical progression mentallity. Anet has always been huge on laterally progressive design. Expect less lvling caps, and more customization from each update.
I hope they don't bother with level increases. They should never had levels to begin with but that argument is in the past.

I am a strong believer that there will be Non free content patches (DLC) which could be seen as mini expansions... like a new zone with new story parts and a new dungeon. They need some sources of income to pay for hosting their servers.
Expansion packs will be comparable to size to the original game, and introduce different parts of the world as they did in the original GW. But they will be expansions and require the base game.
They can easily raise level cap in these big expansions as the old content will be still challenging as you get transfered down when entering those places. But will it be any use to raise it? .... That all depends on their gear system, which to my understanding will be somewhere in the middle of the GW system and more common gear based MMO's.

some of many possibilities for exps:
-new zones
-new races
-new Dynamic Events
-new classes
-new "weapons" and associated skills
-new skills for existing weapons
-new dungeons
-new mechanics
-new minigames
-extensions to existing cities
-new game modes for pvp
-new game modes for pve
-many more...
The game could be expanded like any other game.
Races, weapons, zones, pvp maps, dungeons, armor skins, classes.
Playing: Nothing
Looking forward to: Nothing
^To add to the above which gives a nice list of many options, some things we know:
GW2 business model relies on selling heaps of boxes
There will be an MT shop
ArenaNet are open to what player-feedback is wanting more of eg DLC Dungeons very possibly for +80lvl.
Expansions are key part of the model
To give specifics:
Some Dynamic Events have been designed and not in at release so could added later (See Skritt blog)
Some areas even in the map at release are not accessible at release eg Dominion of Winds but will be later.
Expansions will likely increase size of map eg going further North towards Jormag's Kingdom of Ice, "Dragon No.2/5" for eg. in full blown expansions to the PS + more DEs.
Personal Story in GW2 has open-ends in it already considered for future expansions.
Dungeons could be added as DLC especially for the hardcore demanding this challenging content, also as PS content.
MT shop is still not finalized but ArenaNet have quoted on it:
As above more options and customization and of course we'll know more about the PvP extensions soon, especially as Structured is intended to be e-sportif .

Even World of Warcraft still has areas you can't acces after all these years and some of them were only unlocked with cataclysm :>
No, I don't think they will increase the levelcap.
I think they will add 2 or possibly 3 types of expansions for GW2:
1. Campaigns. Cantha, Elona or maybe something else. Will most likely have 1 new class and one new race each, probably 1-3 new weapon types as well and new skills. A campaign will have zones from lvl 1-80.
2. Expansions. Like GW:EN. Adds new zones, dungeons and story to an earlier campaign. Will include 1 city and content lvl 75+ or so.
3. Possibly: Mini expansion. Similar to War in Kryta but with some new dungeons, will probably cost around 25 bucks to get.
My guess is that they will release 1 expansion and one campaign every 18 months (so something new and rather large every 9 months).
I know many people will disagree but I really hope Anet will never add new professions after release. Just stick to new races, weapons and skills. I feel that the 8 professions are broad enough that they cover all bases. New professions always cause balance problems and it's not necessary at all to sell boxes. WoW only ever added a single new class (which had big balance problems as well).
People will say things like "what about a druid?" and "what about a martial artist?", to which I will reply by saying that those can be added by giving a ranger a staff or a thief a fist weapon. "But that's not the same!" people will cry out. I know it's not the same but does a druid have enough in terms of gameplay and flavor to exist side by side with Rangers, Elementalists, Sylvari and Norn, one must wonder. A martial artist is even worse since the name martial artist only applies to a certain way of fighting and not to it's role and flavor so that there is no reason why it should be it's own profession.
In Short, in terms of character customization:
Add new races.
Add new weapon types.
Add new equipment/equipment mods.
Add new skills.
DO NOT ADD NEW PROFESSIONS, EVER!
Anet has already stated that campaigns like they did in GW1 are unlikely, expansions more similar to WoW's are more likely.
all id want from expansions is a new zone and a few new weapon times, heres hoping i can wield a katana
What's the point? The leveling curve is already almost flat. So if they raise the level cap for let's say 5 levels, you're going to hit 85 in 2 days and then what? I think Anet has much more creative plans than increasing some pointless numbers to keep people playing.
Eat me!
I think ANET is becoming very creative with GW2 and i feel with thier expansions to come with it they wont need to increase the level cap to make you explore/play content.
I saw this fail with CATA in WoW.... Blizzard creates the same old expansion with the same old quests in new, different places. The ONLY way they make you explore this content is with increasing the level cap. To everyone who has ever played CATA, once you hit 85, how many times to you go back to vash? or any new place? Or do you just run around stormwind/Orgrimmar mindlessly?
With ANET, i feel like with new expansions they will just add more then new lands & new items. They will think out side the box with every expansions because thats what they have been doing with this whole game developement. There will be no need for them to increase the level cap because like ive heard before.. whats the point? Youll be max level in 2-3 days and then what?
Aside from the obligatory expansions, paid modular DLC would be an interesting approach... although it does run the exclusionary risk by not making EVERYONE have that content open for them. For example, harder dungeons for hardcore players that might not be asked for by the entirety of the game's player base.
