lol, if a thread was gonna be designed to cause a ruckus, this is it.
I self identify as a monkey.
I love this guy, funny as hell.
After playing Tera he said that he can't ever come back to hotkey tab targetting mmos.
I wonder if he will swallow his pride and buy another 123 mmo?

How does GW2 throw away the mmorpg design book? I just don't see it.

God, FINALLY a voice of reason in an ocean of insanity, bigotry and petty smallminded thinking
I didn't know the guy that well before, but wow, I can only applaud his common sense and reasonable logic. Kudos to TotalBiscuit, I couldn't agree more with him
The ACTUAL size of MMORPG worlds: a comparison list between MMO's
The ease with which predictions are made on these forums:
Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."
He's generalizing the fact that GW2 is doing things that aren't customary for MMORPG's, OR, they are using niche things from other MMORPG's and blowing them up. Both of these things give a sense of saying "Fuck how it normally goes, let's do it our way"
There are MORE than a non-fan like me can list, but even I can see a few.
-The "Holy Trinity" is being abolished (TO A POINT), and this is classified easily as innovative
-A third of the game will be underwater, and the underwater experience isn't supposed to feel clunky and tac'd on (With how your abilities change underwater)
-No Raiding, but content to satisfy the wide majority of players (You can't, and will NOT ever sate everyones thirst)
This is coming from a non-fan of GW. Even i'm not too closed minded to see the innovation they are taking at an industry so dug into the ground that even their roots are growing roots.

SW:TOR Graphics Evolution and Comparison
SW:TOR Compare MMO Quests, Combat and More...
It's so true. It can't be argued. What TOR really has going for it is, "Star Wars" and there's a lot of debate about if all the Star Wars involved is being done correctly.
There is nothing wrong with GW2.
Holy Trinity exists in all games before it? Non-trinity games exist and therefore it is not innovative.
Underwater is cool, I will give you that.
No Raiding. Other games have no raiding and therefore it's been done before and not innovative.
If you said they used one of the Niche game designer books I would buy that. Underwater, while cool, does not make a game wholly innovative.

I do not live where he lives, so I don't have the right to comment on him saying "I can buy games for X", but I have to agree with him tenfold about the fact they not only are you paying extra for it being on Origin (Which CAN be okay, you know, bandwidth fees... Even this is something NOBODY ELSE DOES, but is understandable), but they have TWO added fees. 10$ extra than I can get SW:TOR in the store locally, AND 5$ preorder fee. If I paid that 5$ preorder fee and that was a DEPOSIT, then that's okay. But it's not.You have two separate fees tac'd on for as far as I can see, no reason.
So I don't know why you'd try to say that's bad of him to say.
Now on his "Shame on you" schpiel, I don't feel he takes into account that some people don't feel it's okay but are forced to pay it regardless (Rural area's with no game shops locally (Yes it happens) and shipping from gamestop would take 2-3 days (As it does) and they want it on release). I feel he could be a bit more sympathetic, but that doesn't make him dislikable. Not in the least.
Nobody here EVER said that the game is wholly innovative. He stated what he did as a general statement, and that's how it should be interpretted. You're right, not every game follows the holy trinity. But because this game doesn't, and does something new WELL, as opposed to ALL other attempts, and will succeed on that principal (Cause... cmon) that makes it innovative in the INDUSTRY's eyes. Not in yours. And thankfully, if it pushes our industry forward, that is innovation at it's finest.
The raiding one was thrown in because everything good comes in 3s.
That's funny... I always had a problem with GW2 because it is YET ANOTHER fantasy MMO. How many have there been now? It has got to be in the hundreds at least. And I hear there is a lot of debate about if the fantasy theme is being done correctly. At least this will only be the 3rd Star Wars MMO!
Still, I know I will be playing both games.
I guess its funny how people have different opinions and such.
I am getting both. I am going to play both. I also like both cake and pie. How weird it that?
All die, so die well.
Isn't it funny how this isn't good enough anymore? This labels you casual. Not 'hardcore' enough. It's 'people like you' who XXXXXXX.
A new age has begun. An age of ignorant bias.
This.
Seems preety obvious too...
Really?
What's the different message in this video?
Let me sum it up for you;
1) It's TB
2) He is talking about gamescon
3) His rant on GW2 vs TOR, is EXACTLY the same.
So why did this need it's own thread?
Why cant we just hope both games do well? They have diffrent pricing strategies. So why do they have to compete? One is buy to play with a cash shop the other is a sub game.
U can play both and not worry about which is better or not better. I hope both games do extremely well it bodes better for the industry as a whole if games that offer diverse styles of gameplay are successful then if they fail.
As a gamer who just loves to play games and have fun why cant we just all hope both gw 2 and tor do well as well as the secret world and whatever new sandbox comes out.
The only problem i have with the i dont like tor crowd is there uninformed factless lies.
From the game cost 300 mil when we know it was tor, mass effect 3 and dragon age 2's budgets all combied into 300 mil to the single player game with multi player aspects when in fact u can group up from starter world on if u want. How do we know darthhater and tororcast and torwars people all did just that . they teamed up on origin world to work together.
They spread false info and feel its there duty to convince me and anyone who likes tor to hate it and if we dont agree with stupid morons who will play anything.
Truth is i like tor alot from wht ive seen. The stylyzed grapichs i love. Im not a realistic graphics fan i perfer stylyzed graphics.
I probably know 10 timews more about tor and what it is and isnt then the tor haters cause i actually go to any site i can to read about it. Sure u get your negative comments and reviews but in 99 pct of those the people who dont like tor hate mmo's in genearl.
Most of the reviews of hands on are positive and some drooling over the game. Almost everyone who has played it has raved about the graphics and how awesome they look.
My point i guess is i want all games to succeed if possible for more choice but if u dont like a game fine but its not your job to make me not like it. If u are gonna put a game down at least get yoru facts straight using lies and falsehoods is just moronic and petty.
Because people are dumb in their heads.
They believe that the other game is a threat to the success of their game. They don't want to play the less popular game. they want their game to be the return of jesus game of unrivaled succes.
They can't seem to get it through their heads that everything has ups and downs. GW had many upsides about being a popular, but less popular game than WoW. 6 million copies is not bad for GW. It's amazing really. Starter company, their debut game, unique business model, many people said they would fail(on this very site), new IP - Most other succesful game companies and IP didn't have their debut game sell that much. Even if we don't count the additional campaigns and expansion it's figure is still very impressive and significant.
GW1 was spared from a lot of headaches that troubled WoW. Not all, but some of them, was due to the fact that GW was not constantly in the lime light. From crazy moderators, to protests, to gold farmers galore, to problems with zealousy and fanatics, lag, server downtime, queues and so on...
Most of all, many people think they can actually persuade others. They think so highly of their own writing skills, that they can change the course of others.
A GW2 fan is not going to persuade a guy who just wants to play SWTOR because its star wars to play his game. you can inform people with links and videos, but chances are that it's not going to make a difference.
Listen to this man because he say's the truth.
In his other video, he was simply giving his impressions of GW2 and SW:TOR.
In this video he is giving his opinion on the whole GW2 vs. SW:TOR debate. Big difference.

No. Watch it again and listen for yourself. He says the same thing - Buy SWTOR if your traditionalist bla bla bla.
