The Rift half-birthday celebration has officially kicked off as of today. Everyone, whether former subscriber or new player, is invited back to Telara to partake of the birthday event. Devs are celebrating with big XP gains and contests.
Put on your party hats, log in, and help Trion celebrate six months of Rift. Today marks the beginning of a weeklong half-birthday celebration commemorating six fantastic months of the wildly successful MMORPG. Through August 31st, subscribers will be treated to substantial in-game bonuses, including extra XP, PvP Prestige and Favor, and a special surprise birthday gift.

P.S. There's no such thing as a "half" birthday.
They invented it in hopes the xp gains and events and what not will draw people in. Yay for made up celebrations!
It's worked for Valentines Day, Mothers Day, Fathers Day, Black Friday, etc etc....
Who cares they are having a great run so they want to celebrate. All the previous MMOS had to shut half of their server in first 4 to 5 months. Rift is still going strong and is pretty successful.

When a large percentage of your sub base is made up of people who bought six month founder's plans, quite a few of whom long ago canceled and need to be replaced... Yeah, there is.
There's a lot of good and bad to be said about Rift, but honestly the non-stop "events" that are nothing but a handful of bad cut-and-paste dailies with some new currency (What are we up to now, seven? Eight different "event" currencies?) attached are long past their sell-by date. And frankly the "half birthday" thing just comes across as desperate.
Not to mention the amount of damage even more free favor is going to add to an already laughably screwed up system.
no problem post about it but it would be nice to include video to show us the various issue
not a 4 hour long ( a la lotr)but a simple montage with a 10 second window just to see what the deal is!

According to Launch Day Rift Server List!- 31 NEW SERVERS 03/01/11 they had 58 servers for NA and 41 servers for EU.
According to http://www.riftstatus.com/servers.php as of...today it's showing 35 servers for NA and 21 for EU.
That's 43 servers that are now trial/test/whatever-makes-you-fans-happy servers. How was Biggus99 wrong again?

Sorry for being on topic and not bashing the game like every other poster before me did but does this mean that old players are able to give the game another try for 5 days without renewing the subscription?

this is so silly. Please stop the constant hate. There is no need to make irrational posts in topics for games you don't like. There are plenty of other topics for you to post in or god forbid, go outside and get some exercise.
As for the issue of server #'s...........alll new MMO's have a rush of players at launch and need extra servers to accomodate the initial rush/login jam and it only makes sense that they aren't needed after the initial herd is thinned. After launch, people are no longer so demanding on servers because they spread out by levels which allows devs to consolodate servers which has the added benefit of increasing social opportunities. Good luck to Rift, but unfortunately my time is currently spoken for.
i bought the CE for £13 ill give it another month trying the game out

Just because you guys are stuck in some gaming black hole. Where nothing satisfies you, and cant replace the feeling you had with your main mmo. Doesnt mean newer games suck. It just means your old and busted and need to get out the mmo game.

Well, at least I won't be counted on the roster anymore as I was one of those people who bought 6 month subs and left after a month and a half. (won't do that again)
It's a big milestone, some titles (Faxion) didn't reach the mark, and cause to celebrate. Congrats to Trion for making what probably is the best game of the year (so far).

Trion did something smart: free transfers lets them never have to merge servers - they'll just keep open every server, even if 1 person logs in on prime time to play there, since they can just up and leave to a server with a population.
Therefore, Trion has never merged a server, and is a wild success... even if all but 5 servers are essentially dead.
I'm tempted to get the game, now that they sell the CE for 14,99 (lol) another time. But then i'll rather wait for 1.5 to hit.
