I normally avoid games that are based on space themes(tho i played KOTORs) but lately i was extremely bored and decided to play Mass Effect to see what' s so special about it since everybody praises that game.Surprisingly I absolutely loved the story! the whole thing about the protheans and the reapers was very enjoyable and i think it got me into the Sci-Fi genre.
Now i feel like i must buy SWTOR even though i was pretty much against it before .
Yeah that's it,i felt like sharing this.

Mass Effect in my eyes is still the best single player game I've ever played, it had its flaws but it was just a blast to play.
cannot be beat...this is why TOR is going to dominate the world of MMO's
agreed.

Welcome to the club!
I would have preferred Bioware to make a Mass Effect MMO, rather than a Star Wars one.
It certainly wouldn't have bothered me if they did choose ME's universe over SW.
First Mass Effect Movie (in 2012???) and then ME MMO

I dont want to see mass effects graphics down graded to current gen mmo graphics. The graphics of mass effect and its facial expressions are one of the major reasons why its so popular. If the graphics looked like swtor it would not be the same to me anymore and i think also to most people who have played it, especially console players which is its main target market.
Anyone watch Pablo Fransisco's comedy?

So yeah, this was seriously me as well up until about a month ago. I never really could get into space or sci-fi themed games, even though I love to watch such in TV and Movies. It finally just hit me, being extremely bored with all the generic fantasy I've been playing, so I decided to finally play Mass Effect and see what all the commotion was about. And I too was rather meh about SW:TOR at the time.
Holy Crap what an epic series ~ Mass Effect was great though a little monotonous with all the same buildings and planet surfaces, but it became even better in Mass Effect 2 where every location was unique, however I was kinda miffed they removed the planet exploration...I kinda liked it. I will be replaying both and making a few different decisions not long before ME3.
Anyway, ever since finishing ME2, its just dawned on me how much better games are with vocals and if designed properly they can be really amazing and worth every moment, thus I started keeping tabs on SW:TOR and I'm really excited about it. A great story is everything to me and without it, {I don't care how great a game may look or play} its just not fun to me without it. And one of my biggest issues when playing an MMO, is when I go to roll an alt, and everything I just did is exactly the same. Yeah I do understand that the generic non-class story quests in SW:TOR will be the same, but the responses of the NPCs can be a bit different based on how you decided to roleplay your character.
So yeah, Bioware sold me on SW:TOR through playing Mass Effect too!

I'd be all over that like white on rice.
Ugh.
TOR pretty much guaranteed there won't be a MEOnline for years and years... on the other hand, after Bioware figures out what they did wrong and what they did right with TOR, maybe MEOnline will be that much better.
I love the Mass Effects and the Dragon age games... being able to play with that type of dialogue in an MMO is going to be so awesome.

You ever see people say 'what an average-looking child those 2 people have' when the kid hasn't even been born yet?

That's one ugly fetus!!!

Not every IP has to be made into an MMO. Just take a look at all the great IPs that have been scarred by incompetent developers lately. Now, I'm not saying Bioware is one of them, as we still have yet to see how well SW:TOR does, but just saying. Sometimes its best that certain titles remain as they are and never become an MMO.
Mass Effect could become a grand MMO someday, its certainly a great series, but in all honesty, it doesn't hold a candle to that of the Star Wars lore. Here's hoping that ME3 will not be the end of the series and it continues on though...

I actually felt the same way sortof. Mass Effect was such a great sci-fi rpg and gave me faith that Bioware could make a great sci-fi rpg. Now I did play KOTOR and loved it but Bioware has been around a while and has obviously changed in culture over time. I was slightly hesitant about SWTOR initially because of this, but after playing ME / ME 2 I was totally sold on the idea.
I do agree about a Mass Effect MMO though. I would have loved to see that over Star Wars but I love both franchises a ton so I am content with what we have.
Assuming it sells umpteen million copies, I think there is little chance the series ends.
I do hope they are careful with the story. I thought ME1 had an awesome story. I thought ME2 was an awesome game and had awesome small stories... and a decent main story... right up until the end when it had that silly boss fight from Contra and ridiculous reveal as to what it all meant.
? I thought it all made kind of sense.
*** sort of spoiler ***
Sort of like a natural lifecycle but then on a galactic scale, harvesting civilisations and then eliminating them after they obtained their target. Sort of like how humans breed cows and then slaughter them for the meat or weed corn fields after letting them grow, with little regard for the corn or cows except for nourishment they deliver.
As for ME2, it was more like an inbetween story like Empire Strikes Back. I thought the characters made more of an impression and the story had a nice twist, with Shepard cooperating with guys he hunted down in the first game. Gave the story more of an edge.

If I remember the first game... my impression at the end was there was this epic story and battle... all to bring down one reaper and his geth servants. And it turns out that one reaper was trying to open a gate to bring back tens of thousands... and really they will come anyway - that was just a shortcut.
I thought "damn that was awesome! but the humans and our allies are still in BIG trouble anyway - and we don't appear to know it." (though I was secretly praying that wouldn't mean it all ends with us uploading some computer virus.... lame)
ME2... everything was just awesome. great game for so many reasons.... up til those last few minutes! I just thought the baby hybrid robot thing was silly... and I'm not alone! check around the interweb... you'll find many people talking negatively about the last fight in ME2.... not so much about ME1.
ME3... well obviously the reapers arrive... so that's a good start! just please... please... please... no uploading of super computer viruses to stop them!
Mass effect is really great. hope Tor will be too, not another wow clone /
Maybe the hybrid looked silly, but the concept, the larger idea behind it was very good; genuine scifi and not a cliche, I had an 'aha, so that's how it works' moment, it gave more depth and grounded 'realism' (as far as that makes sense in a scifi ofc) to the universe of Mass Effect. It also had that kind of ruthless efficiency in it, how superior or technologically more advanced civilisations might treat younger, lesser civilisations when given the chance and when there's no sort of ethics prohibiting them. Not just blindly eliminating them, but using them up and discarding what's left and what they wouldn't need.

I was not too sure about TOR in the year with the video that was shown, then the more I saw I could see its very much in the foot steps of the feel of Knights of the Old republic which I enjoyed a long with Mass Effect. Though their choice in Mass effect 2 to dumb it down by taking away loved RPG features from the first was a bit of a let down, but still an enjoy play and carrying on of the story.
