World of Warcraft? Yes!! its worth playing and its worth dying for haha.. Its very fun with different races to choose from also there are different classes you can play. This game is for PVE and PVP lover's. What i like about this game is you attack the bases of enemies. One thing you should play the real thing/orig servers not the private ones because youll just waste you money and not enjoy the game due to low count of players.

Nap I'd wait wow is in decline due to bait and switch end game.  I would wait for Swtor, GW2 etc or play lotro isengard instead.  At this stage wow is definately not worth a return until they innovate instead of copy.

If you haven't played the new 1-60 content, nows the time.

How ever if you say you've played 60-80. If you've played it enough, you'll be bored to death getting through that level range.

I would be willing bet we start seeing server merges soon with WoW and they will most likely start implementing features that the community has been screaming for these past 4-6 yrs.

I will take a lucky guess they start tuning loot drops to meet the raid/party make up...

Anyway to answer the OP question, no WoW is not worth playing right now and is a very boring game pvp or pve.

The fact that they have only a handful of maps for pvp and that the classes are not balanced makes for a very bad pvp game even thou Blizz would love for it's pvp to be super esport.

With that said Blizz has nerf pve into the ground over pvp and still thinks they can balance their classes and mechanics around pvp which has ruined the class system and pve.

    Played: MCO - EQ/EQ2 - WoW - VG - WAR - AoC - LoTRO - DDO - GW/GW2 - Eve - Rift - FE - TSW - TSO - WS - ESO - AA - BD
    Playing: Sims 3 & 4, Diablo3 and PoE
    Waiting on: Lost Ark

If WoW with its 11M subs is 'dying', then all MMOs might as well close now. lol.

Good thing about WoW is that every MMO player out-there that you meet will know/heard/played WoW so it is the 'safest' first MMO to try.

If you havent gone through the game in proper environment, yes. Its absolutely worth the buck to buy and play the game for whatever time.

No matter what anyone says, WoW is a good game, until you get bored of it. Besides the game is now more "noob" friendly than ever before. So go ahead and play the real game if you want to, just remember to stop in time, because once you are through it and start prolonging, its just going to dry your wallet for nothing.

EDIT: As for reasons, the story is good if you actually ignore all of the kill x amount of things quests, especially in northrend.

The game has generally some really awesome scenes scattered here and there which are most likely not in place in non-official servers.

WoW is great if you like theme parks before and haven't played it yet (or at least not a lot).

Let's play Fallen Earth (blind, 300 episodes)

Let's play Guild Wars 2 (blind, 45 episodes)

its funny how people are saying wow is dying...

Now its not my type of game and I ahve not touched wow since the 2nd week of the US launch, but millions of people still play the game and as far as i know the number is not really dropping that much.

Wow is the most popular MMORPG that has ever existed and is still growing strong.

Now if your looking for the king of theme park MMOS with Endless endgame raids then this is the game for you.. Im sure there is a free trials so just give it a go lol..

For me the game just holds your hand too much and got really boring...  but like i said millions of people still play this game.

Wow is a good game if you like leveling, its few of the mmo that offer huge world, unlike alot of mmo after it.
it also have , IMO, a very smooth animation especially combat. Apart from the typical kill x amount of rats quest it also have some fun quests to do. And the phasing technology that they use, brings the story close to you.

But too much of it at level 80 for my liking.

That being said, the end-game to me is very boring, dailies everyday and raid or die.

Yes, yes it is. You'll probably find that the general audience is a bit skewed between a small proportion of people who realise it's only a game and an overall majority of petulent kids (in my experience on any server I've played on) who either don't realise it's a game or haven't experienced the more important things in life (like boobies) and so fly into sulky nerd rages when unimportant things don't go their way e.g. they get 'ganked' when playing on a pvp server/ they don't get preference on loot drops etc. That's the general overall complaint about the game I've seen that I would sort of agree with - and it's not really a fair criticism of the game itself but of a proportion of the audience. As long as that doesn't bother you, it's definitely worth playing all the way through at least once. Better still, if you can find a guild of mature, like-minded people who are selective enough so as to keep the twats out, you can turn off general and trade chat and you never have to even see bad humoured spamtardishness at all to enjoy the content in peace. Win-win. I've seen some people moan about the fact the game is a 'cash cow' but I haven't seen any evidence of this in anything that's not avoidable as yet.

As with most other games of the current MMO-apeing genre, the end game can wear thin pretty quick if you see through the pointlessness of endless raid or pvp runs which, given the fact that:

    1. tiers of gear are realeased periodically, making previous, hard-earned gear useless

    2. There's nothing much to actually do with all this fancy new gear besides run more raid runs for the new gear except in the case of pvp

    3. In the case of pvp, if you don't have the latest imba gear you'll last about 5 picoseconds in a battlegrounds versus well-geared opponents, so you'd better have the free time to grind it fast or avoid the bgs

    4. It would be better to give players something else to aspire to like, for example, solo class-storyline content or something else I can't think of

But then again, some might argue that the process of aquiring the gear is a fun and worthwhile end in itself - I believe they're called 'masochists' :-P

P.S. An idea just occured to me: why don't they have battlegrounds where you're temporarily/automatically assigned cosmetic gear without stats and so equalise it to the point where skill is more important?

  • teakboisteakbois Member Posts: 2,154

Of course it is worth playing.  The only AAA game right now thats not in a declining subscription state is AoC (maybe EvE still?) so even if WoW is dieing its still got the most life left in it due to its colossal population.

1-59, you are screwed.  At 60 you can get really, really cheap PvP gear in a couple of matches and be caught up.  At 85 crafted gear will be enough to make you not ridiculously squishy, but if you dont take the time to get that you will have it rough.

WoW is still a lot of fun in its entirety if you find a sub fee feasible.

Yes, because the cross realm dungeon finder (love it or hate it) wasnt an enormous innovation that is now being copied...LOTRO is really only worth it over the competition if you love the lore, its generic outside of the setting.  The scenery is breathtaking though.  The first time I saw Weathertop in the distance my jaw dropped.

You should most definitely try it if you haven't before. Even if WoW is in a decline, it hardly matters since there are so many populated servers. Be wary though, if you keep listening to people on forums, especially this one - you'll more than likely get the wrong impression and end up trying the game with a negative attitude towards it. if anything, now is the time to try it. And yes, the game is boring like many have said if you have played it for several years.

You should look into getting someone to recruit you, in case you find leveling boring because then a 300% experience increase will be a most welcome bonus. If you're unsure about it due to money, then simply pay for World of Warcraft without the expansions. Yes, you will be playing a restricted game, but it will most likely seem like a smooth-flowing experience to you.

But hey, you don't have to listen to me. If it's worth anything, I find the game to be quite boring myself (because I've been playing for years) and I have stopped playing, but I still remember the first time I tried it (over four years ago). It took me more than a year to get a character to level 60 because I kept creating new characters, but I still enjoyed the game a lot.

Give the free 14 day trial a go.

If you're a MMO buff, then you will probably quit fast. If you've not really played hotkey MMOs though, you might enjoy it.

Same can be said of WoW "stealing" from D&D who stole from LOTR, notice how WoW stole guild advancement from Rift?

Bottom line WoW is popular because it arrived at the right time for the market (consumer) demand.  People do not leave because they feel they will lose an "investment" of time and energy.

WoW is a raid only game, PvP (they fix the BG server kicks yet?) is a joke, flight ruined the game because it took the players out and put them above the content.  WoW is not a bad game, new players will see grinding for gear is zero fun.

If you don't like a game don't play it, and quit running to MMORPG.com to trash it.

Talking about guild leveling? That's from Warhammer Online, not Rift.

It's hardly a joke. It's surprisingly good for what it is.

It tackled a problem which many people faced: Boring, slow traveling. At the same time, it also gave players freedom because they were no longer chained to the ground. Open-world PvP was never the focus of WoW.

    That's a subjective opinion.

All of it is subjective, fact is WoW is end game raid only.  Show me an expansion that WAS NOT end game raid focused.

Ahh, I see what you're getting at now. WoW's end-game focus is raiding, but there is still PvP which is enjoyed by a lot. If you don't want to raid at all, that doesn't mean WoW isn't a game for you - there is still exploring, questing and like I said before, PvP. Role-playing is also an option. Yes you're correct that WoW has limited options, but they are options nonetheless.

When was the last time you played (on a private server)?

If it wasn't that long ago I would play right now and not wait longer. I downloaded the Starter Edition and it was damn hard getting past the graphics and armor skins. I used to be obsessed with this game! The more time passes the harder it gets for me to really get into the game, if you get what I'm saying. Especially after dipping myself into the newer titles.

    Don't wait any longer.

Actually, guild advancement was stolen from EQ2, so far as I could tell. So was the looking for guild feature. So was the guild bank system.  The only thing they haven't been smart enough to steal from EQ2 is housing...oh, and better crafting (in my opinion).  They're determined to keep the players homeless in WoW as if they're living in poverty.

In my opinion, WoW is only worth playing if you haven't already played it for years. If you're starting out brand new....I wouldn't miss it.
