Star Wars: The Old Republic: EU Game Testing Beta Delayed

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

In a new post on the Star Wars: The Old Republic site, Chris Collins has announced that Game Testing in the EU has been delayed for a pair of reasons:

  • A new game client is on the way. Because of character wipes and the fact that players will have to download a new client, game testing will be put off until after the new client arrives.

  • Localized versions coming. Localized versions of SWTOR will arrive with the new game client and Bioware wants input on the localization efforts.

No specifics were given about when EU players might begin receiving invites into Game Testing but the promise is that they will be coming, just not as quickly as some would hope.

At least they are giving actual reasons for the delay now, so thats something. Still poor Europeans :(

What a shocker.... Not looking good. I say this game does not even make the 2011 window.

    quote Chris Collins:

"Secondly, this new build will bring about the first localised versions of Star Wars: The Old Republic, which means those of you that speak French and German will have the chance to play the game in those languages, for the first time ever. We’re extremely excited to be able to offer this to our players and as such, we’re keen to get a lot of feedback from European testers in particular."

wow i am amaize such a lot work to doo ^_^

Haha , this is so obvious dammage controll :P

A new game client.. serious.. they cant update their old client? I cant imagen that the updated version will have GB chanced data.

Localized versions.. what? there are two languages that might get their own versions, german and french, but those are already finished ( as its just TxT and VO) spain aint got enough players to justify a localized VO client. and south america aint in their bussines audience at all (belong to generic world group)

Pfff, wasn't going to play test it anyway.

from my understanding the client that the testers tested this past weekend was a older client, so it makes since to have them playtest the new client from feedback they garnered this weekend.

    In Bioware we trust!

I don't see the need to waste time on localizing a beta client for closed beta testing, but whatever. It's not like it's a public release or something.

Being able to understand the language spoken and read the text is kind of important for testing a game and actually providing feedback.

Many beta's I've played  required a new client download at various stages. Not sure why Bioware's explanation spells out "DOOM" to some posters. Remember..on a side note...."M.O.O.N" spells "DOOM".

    27Gb Beta client... OUCH!

With my current shitty download speed, it will take a few days to download..

One would assume that people who know enough to get into a closed beta aka more than just "buy the game and register an account" at least have basic knowledge of the English language. Don't get me wrong, English isn't even my native language, but I still consider this an unnecessary waste of resources. Leave that for the final release when all content has been finalized.

But then again, it's not really worth arguing about. If BioWare has the resources to already do it good for them.

I decided to withdraw from the beta just so I have a new game to play when it does release. Given the story element, and the fact that it will not change much if you play the same character once the game goes live, I would rather just wait. I am not sure why so many people have their panties in a bunch about not getting into the beta anyway...

localization is good news if it includes spanish, anyway I guess is just subtitles, I dont expect the whole game to be in spanish.

Fairly smugly pleased I didn't pre-order. But EA are still rolling in pre-order cash now, regardless.

  • daemondaemon Member UncommonPosts: 680

I dont care about the beta.. but let us PRE-ORDER the Collectors Edition.

Out of 50+ EU countries only 20 could get it for a certain amount of time.

So most of EU didnt have a chance to get the CE from start.....   Wth is that ?

Also we have to pay 108 $ for the Digital Edition and 80$ for Standard Edition which is kind of insane for any game.

and also all the pre-orders only started to be avaliable recently for us so imagine that we can get into the game later then the rest cause of their stupid early access code rules.

    Just launch.

Just release the god damn game.I will be more than frustrated if this wait is worthless in the end.At least we have diablo 3.

    Why announce this now?

    1) Surely they knew about localisations a long time ago?

    2) Yeah it's a beta we all know there are going to be character wipes/reinstalls.... and...

    3) All this on top of hyping everyone up about the September beta weekends then telling us at the the very, very last minute, sorry Europe isn't inlcuded... oh didn't we mention that already, haha!

I was hoping this might be a Oct/Nov release but yeah, I think we'll be lucky to see it this side of Xmas now. Boo sucks!

  • LobotomistLobotomist Member EpicPosts: 5,981

Well , at least they say its delayed. Instead simply ignoring european players

  • BarCrowBarCrow Member UncommonPosts: 2,195

They never said EU was not included..only that it was delayed.  It sucks but it happens..even to the US market....or any market for that matter. It just happens to be a highly anticipated game so it seems all the worse when it occurs.

  • palulalulapalulalula Member UncommonPosts: 651

27 GB client????!!! I like it. This game is so huge and who wants to play beta anyway, it will ruin only  D-DAY

  • Teh_AxiTeh_Axi Member UncommonPosts: 380

Man they so full of shit, they just know they cant ignore the subject now US testing has started.

Localizations have to be tested and bugfixed too. It's better to do it in beta...

    Signatures are boring things.

Should they wait until after release to do the localizing?I would think that they also need to get that worked out along with the rest of the game that what testing is for after all.

  • CelciusCelcius Member RarePosts: 1,878

Pretty sweet to see that they continue updating the client so much that it requires a full new DL! One week beta delay for europe because they don't have the other languages in testing yet......who cares? No big deal there, game will still ship in 2011 for both countries.
