Kso, couldn't read the entire thread because my amount of curiosity and rage reached it's max very early in it.
So, single player rpgs are for the journey, and mmorpg's arent?
>mmorpg's are about the endgame
>>the reason you don't want to play is because the endgame
>>>by the way, end means to stop, so if there is something worth doing at 'endgame' it isn't 'endgame', it's an illusionary endgame
By the way, if the game isn't about the journey, then what is it about, just curious? I thought the entire point of an rpg was to adventure, and play a role in a world that has something going in it.
It's about the journey, not the destination. Thats why each class has its own storylines. Perhaps you shouldn't rush to endgame?
Single player RPG's are for that. Not MMORPG's.
Any RPG should be about the journey, not the destination, regardless if it's an MMO or a single player game. Why even bother leveling otherwise? Might as well just start your character capped so you can get right to the most boring stuff the game has to offer and spin your wheels repeating it for months.
This. The RPG on the end of MMORPG is just barely hanging on, but it still means something. Role-playing is about a character, not a machine. Characters have storylines, machines repeat tasks over and over (raiding...?).
SWTOR is not enough MMO....doesnt foster the community doesnt want players to be together unless in instaces or flashpoints or raids.
Wrong. Heroic Quests, multiplayer dialogue system, social point system, objective based RvR-stylish open world PvP, just to name a few things that aren't limited to instances and that encourage community, as much as any other (themepark) MMO and more.
If you hate/dislike themepark MMO's though, then I suggest you look elsewhere for your MMORPG that might be able to satisfy you.
The ease with which predictions are made on these forums: Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."

I have to agree with MMO.Maverick, SWTOR does more to entice people to team up than any other game I have ever played that didn't in fact FORCE people to team. Looks like someone hasn't done their homework.

Just wait one month after it's out and this game will be free to play.
Sorry, that's just not reasonable. No game has ever gone free to play that fast, especially not one made by an award winning company based on the most popular science fiction franchise of all time.

Although I dont agree with Shredder's post I do agree in the spirit of it. SWToR will not fail, but like Rift it wont come close to being the next greatest game, just an average boring same old same old, that we have been playing for the last 6 years.
WoW is space with voice acting makes not a recipe for a great MMO.

I don't think SW:TOR will kill WoW either, but I do think it will be in the top three with WoW and Guild Wars 2.
I must admit, it is very difficult for me to judge how long TOR really is gonna entertain me. There are things I really love and things I find just meh. And this story idea... I dunno. I am sure the stories will be cool, but... what then? And will that not leave a feeling of mostly playing a single player game? I know all uber-fans are going to deny it, but I still see it as a valid critique, whatever Bye-O'Ware says. But as ever the usual flame wars will make a reasonable analysis impossible, anyway. *shrug*
I say try it out and see for yourself. It sure will be fun for 1-2 story walk throughs. Beyond that I guess no one can really say.

Not only is the statement not reasonable, it is downright stupid. There has never been a game that did not at least "look" successful in the first month whent he sales alone pretty much pay for the R&D. As far as I know no game has even gone F2P after even 6 months unless it was designed to do that in the first place. Sorry ShredderSE, but you lost all credibility when you typed that (actually I am not sorry, but I was trying to be nice).
"If half of what you tell me is a lie, how can I believe any of it?"
Like I said I don't wanna be a stereotype, but why would Bioware invest so much $ in endgame formula that fails to hype me?
That's a pretty good question. According to your op, PVP fails to deliver, PVE fails to deliver. At the endgame, that leaves--nothing.
In your second post, you indicate that leveling content doesn't thrill you either.
So the biggest question to me is: Why are you playing MMOs at all?
You've walled yourself into a corner with impossible expectations. Rather than demand that we justify your gaming for you, perhaps you need to take an honest look at yourself and why you're still participating at all.
You say the biggest game in the market didn't deliver your "I want my game to matter" fix either, yet you played it for...how many years?
Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.
"Community please help me get SWTOR hyped. Is there something u see that I don't in it?"
You're right and you don't even know it, go with the force and do not get this game and save you're money from the evil empire EAware.
Seriously those whom can get beyond the hype find it is better to, move along nothing to see here. It'll be free to play in no time, i might waste and hour or two on it then, maybe.
Well there is one other thing, if the only word in your vocabulary is themepark then this game might be for you, some how i feel you're much more smarter than that.
You'll be thankful a month or two after launch anyway when the true colors are revealed about this game. Sure everything is exciting at first, give it a month or two, watch the forums explode in rage at this game for swindling them, although plenty of us were here warning them, but no it's EAware's fault for swindling them. Gonna be a good show.
Who knows maybe I'm completely wrong and it will be as popular as all those other games people got way over hyped about and there was no way on earth they could ever be bad and or go free to play, you know games like Age of Conan, Rift, Warhammer Online, Fallen Earth, EQ2, Star Trek Online, DC Universe online... the list goes on and on, lets just add SWTOR to the list now and save any editing later on.
The hype meter doesn't mean squat to me. I don't need affirmation from a bunch of other people to back up my choice for favorite upcoming game. As a matter of fact, considering my dislike for many of the people on this site, I'd rather they not like this game and go play something else when TOR releases.
It's about the journey, not the destination. Thats why each class has its own storylines. Perhaps you shouldn't rush to endgame?
Single player RPG's are for that. Not MMORPG's.
If you really feel that way; then TOR may not be for you. There will be no game-breaking changes to end-game pve. Once the game launches are all of your friends start playing it, maybe they can help you want to play it.
Originally posted by Kopogero . I will skip the warzones (battlegrounds) cuz I am battlemaster in WOW and after having the best PvP gear and all achivements, doing endless warzones/battlegrounds without a point is simply not fun at all.
You are probably not a fan of your average typical FPS game in that case, right? As that whole genre is centred on the above.. endless pointless fights that are played for no other reason than the fun of the fight.
Personally, I can deal with pvp being the endgame, it's less repetitive than doing some raid over and over. Unpredictable player behaviour trumps an ai that always does the same thing, every time.
That being said, the goal of an mmo, especially one like TOR, should be the trip, not the pretty reward at the end of the trip.
Then again I haven't touched it, I won't know if what TOR is doing is going to be interesting or if it will end up being like in most mmos where you can just skip the useless dialogs and get back to playing asap, until I've tried it myself.
This game isn't for you, it wasn't designed with you in mind, it won't cater to you
That being said I can just watch that journey from other players perspective in places like youtube and save myself the $
Yes. Do us all a favor and just don't purchase TOR lol
I fully expect to take months to finish the main story line for my first toon.
I'll be doing lots of exploration and some instanced PvP and hopefully lots of open world PvP and flashpoints and operations but primarily I'll be finishing every "quest" on every planet along side my main class story line.
I'm sure I'll reach max level at some point in there, but it's not the end-goal for me, not for this game.
Then there are alts... considering I want to play every class on the Republic side and one or two of the Imperial ones.
I really hope there isn't a whole lot of repeated content between classes of one particular faction, however, but I imagine that there certainly will be - as long as I can make different choices and experience the repeat content differently, I'll still be happy.
After all, I ran through Mass Effect 1 and 2 three-four times each without a drop of boredom.
It's about the journey, not the destination. Thats why each class has its own storylines. Perhaps you shouldn't rush to endgame?

Do you really want someone to "help you see something to get hyped over" or is this just the 3,298,182nd post designed to troll without being obvious about it.
Reading this line I'm forced to think this game isn't for you in any way shape or form so why not just skip it and let the millions of other people who are hyped just enjoy their moment there are tons of games on the horizonand you'll have your moment in the sun soon enough I'd imagine.
Badspock is spock on with this, or is it spot on? I fully intend on doing the same. I can tell you that the toons personal story quests are different for each class but the side quests are the same with most having choices you can make for the outcome.
Also I dont think some people are giving this game enough credit. It is not for everyone that much is sure. But some people are trying to make it seem like this game is a flop. And they have never even played any beta builds. i have played and can say that this game will hold many many subs. for several years, and not just cause its SW or BW but because its a great game.
It's about the journey, not the destination. Thats why each class has its own storylines. Perhaps you shouldn't rush to endgame?

The Journey is what MMORPGs are supposed to be about. Sure some do it better than others...

You've only been playing around with MMOs.
For your own MMO enjoyment consider playing them as a journey.
And Yes, I believe this will apply to SW:TOR as well. (note: I am no fan of TOR because I believe EA will screw it over on every level and so I won't buy or play TOR. The Bioware Devs I think have done a superb job at their first true MMO.)
Bioware, starwars, story driven, cost a bajillion dollars, totally voice acted....i mmean how can you not get the hype?
