is Dead Island worth a try?

It all comes down to what you enjoy, if you prefer fast paced "zombie" shooters (a term I use lightly when it comes down to it) like left 4 dead, then you probably won't like Dead Island, most of the combat is Melee and firearms are pretty rare. If you prefer more "Survival" type Zombie games then this would be closer to that category. There seems to be a very obvious hint of the developers actually wanting the game to be played CO-OP rather than Solo, so if you were to pick it up, definately pick it up with a bunch of friends.

The easiest thing I could compare it to is Borderlands, it's a very similar game but zombies instead of aliens and midgets, you can search for loot, you search for side quests which are visable due to the mini map so if you're close to one, you won't be able to miss out. There are bonus side quests which allow you to access places you couldnt go to unless you complete the bonus side quest, which I think is an excellent feature myself. Dead Island really captured the environment of a zombie apocalypse in Dead Island, more than any other CO-OP zombie game i've ever played, the music is great and the suspense is also great when you have found that there are quite a few zombies ahead of you and your last weapon just broke.

I've played the game for about 6 hours in total and I havn't come across any bugs so far, so whilst the game is probably buggy, it most definately will not affect your performance when it comes down to it, I could imagine games like Fallout or Oblivion to have more bugs, and they were still playable and enjoyable, so don't be put off by the amount of "bugs" it has, they will be patched hopefully.

BQ. Dawn of the dead (original), Night of the living dead, Shaun of the dead (Whilst I class this as a zombie film, I prefer it more for it's comedy ^_^) and for games, Resident Evil and Dead Island by the looks of it.

To an extent. Its really fun, but it won't get game of the year or many (if any) awards. There are times where you are satisfied as hell but then it aggravates you because of its occasional spots of mega glitchyness. I bought it, and I thought it was good but for 60$ i feel like it needed something more leaving me wanting more.

If i had purchased it for 50$ I would have been okay. I think you should a different game which is sure guarantee for your money like GTA IV and Red Dead Redemption, if you have those I recommend Mortal Kombat

This game was desgined to be played 10 feet from a TV screen not 2 feet from a monitor.  These over the top effects make for a mess on the PC version.  There are a number of modders trying to make it playable for PC by removing this crud.  See the Steam forums for more info.

I am enjoying the game, maybe because I havn't played much of the other zombie infected type of games.

But I feel the things you mention have more to do with your system not able to run the game properly cause honostly I don't have those blurring things when turning, I think this happens with games when they are played on to high settings a system can't handle aswell bright bloom is something again due to to high settings for a persons systems.

Playing it with a 580GTX card and don't seem to have those issue's you speak of , doesn't mean those issue's do not happen to other people, just means they aint happening to me. Also there has been a patch released that seems to have fixed some issue's I only read about and didn't experiane myself.

I've played this game. It is not a 3/10. It is not a perfect game, but it is a good game and it is no where near a 3/10. How long are you going to keep these crappy reviews up, Edge? You're a good publication but you have absolutely no credibility in your reviews. No one takes you seriously any longer because you never rate anything properly. Dead Island delivers death by a thousand cuts, both literal and figurative. The literal cuts are almost good fun. As zombie hordes (or, thanks to limited tech, zombie tens) shuffle closer, a series of melee blows result in chucklesome injuries. Wrenches split heads, butchers’ knives cleave legs clean off and baseball bats dislocate arms, leaving them swinging impotently from the shoulder. Hit a sprinting infected with a well-timed swipe and its head pops off in slow motion as momentum sees the body comically run on by. In a game about bashing zombies, the zombies look suitably bashed. The problems arise from the bashing.

Dead island is a game that's worth playing, but it's not going to be a GOTY. However, the fun factor of the game increases a ton when you have some friends online who will play with you. If you don't, then think long and hard about getting it, because the game, while it isn't terrible in single player, isn't nearly as fun.

Well, everyone has different opinions when it comes to games.I have it on ps3 and I just don't like it that much unless im playing with my friends but my brother likes it. Maybe try renting it first and if you like it then buy it. image

Dead Island is worth a go, just not for $50. Do some searching and you can get the Steam version for around $25.

Great game definitely worth playing. if you are an intense gamer and look into every location and search everything it took me about 25-30 hours to beat the game. Fun with friends, a little glitchy, but worth the money. if not an intense gamer rent it and beat it in a week haha

Dead island is an amazing game. But I've only played with friends. If you have friends to play it with, buy it for sure. Dead Island is way better than left 4 dead 2. Left 4 dead (the first one) is better than left 4 dead 2, not that I'm saying the first one is a bad game.

Whoa you guys are obviously a zombie lover. Way to go bro. If you love Left for Dead then your probably gonna dig this game. The concept is more based like resident evil 5 in a way. You have to manage your weapons better than in Left for Dead. Hey, us college kids gotta get our gaming in between classes right. You'll probably like it. I suggest watching game play on youtube first though to see how you might like it. And it's definitely worth the buy

I don't have enough to buy Xbox live and the game.

I'm only getting two new games this season, cause I'm broke.

So It's Skyrim and something else.

So should I hold off on it?

Kk first off, I Want to get it myself! It's the best zombie game to date( I don't like Dead Rising) and yeh but go check the gameplay( don't spoil it for yourself and go to the ending) and see if you like the RPG style... If so then go purchase it but if not then save it for like MW3 or Battlefield 3 :D Hopes this helps ( I got me a $50 on my Birthday so YEAH! Still having second opinions about buying it but I rele want to at the same time cause of BF3

Its a pretty good game, but kinda repetitive (thus far) when playing solo.  If you like zombie games then it would be good but if you are having to decide between this game or a game like BF3, or Skyrim then I would wait off on those as they are 2 weeks and 1 month away.
