SWTOR fans, I apologize for jumping in, you guys can handle it yourselfs just fine, I just couldn't hold it back.  It's late here.

You are the first GW2 fan that I've seen who actually admits that TOR gets a ton of hate. Most say that GW2 gets more hate, LOL.

To the OP: The art style is similar to WoW. This is a smart move because it allows people with older computers to play. Also, it keeps the game from looking super old 5 years down the road. The graphical quality is leaps and bounds beyond WoW, as it should be. Including "WoW with lightsabers" in your post is the worst thing you can do. That alone will get you labled as a hater. If you want people to take you seriously, come up with some good points. Don't make a new thread with the overdone "Everything in it looks like WoW."

Seems like your trolling the wrong forums then....hate to break it to you, welcome to MMO's.

besides, most games only do 5 players in a instance.  LOTRO being the only decent game that has gone with 6 in a while.

Nope, my intent wasn't to do anything. I'm pretty neutral towards this game and I think this is my first time even posting about it.

I am just getting tired of the same old thing. That's basically it, there has to be more to games than the same old same old. I have played rollerblade MMO and loved those, so it's possible to make something different.

Have nothing against this game, if people like the same thing as before, awesome, prolly a good game for them then.

I agree with OP, for a most expensive mmorpg on market it looks dated. Im not SW fan but i love mmorpg. Fighting is slow and similiar to rift and wow. People are starting to get bored with standard mmo formula.

If you like wow/rift and SW universe its game for you. If you are not fan, wait for review.

alright well that's a good point that that you made.. didn't think of the art style like that.

wow with lightsabers is just my initial response of the vid... just seems strange seeing almost everyone with either a gun or a saber. anyways.. i'm sorry if i offended TOR fans because of that. i do like the game, like i keep saying, and like i've said, i do NOT look at every SW thread(apparently i should if i want to be original)...

How am I a hater when I've already said I wanted to play it?

and @quentin405 yeah sorry lol don't worry. whenever I do browse this forum I do see alot of people trying to flame each other, so it's just hard to tell anymore since everyone calls everyone a troll(just look at this thread, apparently i'm a hater of a game I've wanted to play since it has been in dev). i'll probably still play it; maybe i just need to see better gameplay videos. i remember I didn't really like rift from some videos but i played it and did like it(although i quit cuz my laptop sucked lol).

it's good you're playing with so many people you know, damn haha

Excuse me?  Where in that does it state your name or even alludes to you in any way?  If you're not a hater, then it doesn't apply to you, now does it?

I think GW2 gets alot of hate, alot from SWTOR fans actually, but I don't hold the entire SWTOR community responsible.   Maybe it's becuase of how popular Star Wars is, but SWTOR gets more than it's fair share of threads ripping on it.   It isn't too hard to recognize that.  :)

I happen to be a huge Star Wars fan but I lean towards GW2 because its more my play style and I am ready for something a little different.  I also realize that it's my personal taste and as some have mentioned above, GW2 doesn't do it for them. So it's a good thing that we have a choice in the matter.  We can play what we want.  It's a good thing.

Awesome evidence of bad combat.  You linked a video of someone who has no idea hot to play a Trooper class.  The guy just stood there and let people beat on him.  That's not evidence of bad combat.  That's evidence of a crappy pvper.

    Try again.

I don't question whether you want to play the game.  I question your judgement.  To say this game looks "old" is simply misinformed.

Well im loggin off, nice chatting with the OP..  Probably go play some horrible F2p game for a while before bed..

Hopefully you give ToR a chance.. the guild mates of mine that got into beta make this game sound awesome.. Only time will tell..

And good luck to everyone who says this game is a total WoW clone and exactly like every thing else on the market.. your going to have a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong wait seeing as MMOS are so commercialized now, if you look at other commercial markets, the amount of time it takes to completely flip the scene is rediculous.. Take a look at our cars.. damn near a century of the exact same thing and just now they are making cars run on alternate fuel sources..

    Go go team capatalism..

Oh and BTW, I wont be here to reply so Ill go ahead and say it..  I do not work in the gaming industry, but having played mmos (and being a top player in many guilds / games/  servers)  spending countless, probably sad amount of hours playing games since Meridian 59, and launch of Ultima online..  I will say, using my experience and knowledge of MMOS, and knowing the reply is coming, GW2 is nothing new..  Just wait, after a few weeks of playing your going to say (damn i was tricked again.. these handful of "revolutionary" features have all been done bfore, and this game is ..... MORE OF THE SAME WOW CLONE )

But please please.. nothing is worth taking your own life.. When you realize that GW2 is exactly like all the other games on the market (including ToR) dont be depressed..

To me its kind of like football.. it does not matter which team you play for... because all the teams are playing the exact same game by the same rules :P

Yeah, I never understood why people have to pair games against each other. It seems like a lot of people would rather spend their time bashing on one game than supporting the one they like. I want all MMOs to succeed (other than P2W) because it brings more variety to the genre.

@Whilan Thanks for posting some TB videos!

Oh God now I see why everyone's pissed that I mentioned this TOR looking like a sci fi WoW in space.. the first comment on that vid mentions someone defending the game: "Why are people saying its like "WoW in space""....

So after starting to watch this vid, it does look better both graphically and through actual gameplay. Maybe the quality of the video I linked helped deter me from the game.

Edit: @Biggus - by old I meant that it looked graphically like WoW, which to me looks a little outdated(because it's so old). I'm guessing it was my first impression because of the video quality; I shoulda looked on youtube for better quality to actually see the characters fingers. Bad judgement, I get it.

I feel a lot of that is probably the fault of insecure revenge posting. Which would be a result of there being quite a few instances of people who come to the TOR section only to put down TOR and praise GW2. It's died down somewhat over the past few months.

That said, we see this with every release window that has more than one game. It's really no different than the Xbox vs PS3 crap that has gone on for years. Which is why it doesn't surprise me.

The thing is what you just said is also a result of that kind of mentality, as you're viewing someone you see in one section posting as a "fan", rather than someone who just happens to frequent MMORPG.com and follows the popular trending topics, no matter which game they happen to be about. The opinions people express typcially should be on a case by case basis, not some over-reaching agenda.

I can list every critique I've made about GW2 in a very short list.

    A. Mounts being replaced with insta travel. (not my playstyle)

    B. no world PVP in the traditional sense, (haven't seen WvWvW in action as of yet and it's not a persistent feature). (not my playstyle)

    C. PVP being server vs server rather than living with your enemies. (not my play style)

    D. Concerns over the B2p structure.

And yet I've been called out as a TOR fan and Gw2 detractor. Which I was neither ( I can't really say how I feel about TOR now :). Point is how can you be a fan or hater of something you haven't played?

Because of this us vs them mentality gamers have, it doesn't matter what you actually think, all that matters is the side you're "supposed" to belong to. I'll never understand this mentality as I like games, that's plural, I'd gain nothing from only wanting one game.

Ah okay, fair enough.  Yeah, there are plenty of videos out there.  Just keep looking.  I think you'll be fairly pleased with the combat.  It's not innovative by any means, but in my opinion, it looks a lot better than a lot of the other MMOs I've seen.  It's hard to explain, but it doesn't feel static like other MMOs.  You don't have two combatants just swinging at each other until one of the health bars reach zero.  The combat actually looks like the two combatants are reacting to each other instead. Deflecting lasers with lightsabers, blocking and parrying animations, etc.  Also, one other cool thing is that for melee classes, you can spam the same attack back to back, and the attack may not have the same animation.  They've given melee attacks a few different animations each, which I think is very cool.

Again, not innovative, but a nice improvement from what we've seen.

To futher expand on this, something I will never ever understand is the 'Something vs Something else'.

Heck, GW1 had it when it came out, GW1 vs WoW!!!!

Which was really dumb since a lot of the GW1 players also had a WoW sub like myself.

I don't see anything different with GW2 vs SWTOR.

I'll have both just like I have both Xbox360 and PS3.

    Just like I'll play COD:MW3 and BF3.

    Just like I'll play GOW3 and Resistance3.

Is it wrong that I like both 'HEAT' and 'The Godfather'? :(

I do not trust videos anymore, they can be completely faked anyways, as some developer could edit it to look like somthign awsome when it is not, or some amatuer youtuber can take an awesome game and make it look like crap accidently.

If you are unsure about the game, just wait until it releases and then get more useful feedback from friends.

Thats a bit of a cop out.  And untrue.  Game play videos can be very interesting.

Ive enjoyed watching GW2 vids.  And I loved watching the Skyrim demos recently released.  In fact I watched those at least three times in a single day and had a big grin on my face each time.

And no, these videos looked boring.  Extremely.  In fact, as you mentioned, I would rather watch WoW videos.  Which I have done before and they actually looked more interesting than that.

Guess it's a matter of taste, I watch swtor videos over and over again, can't get through a single GW2 video, just bores me to tears...oh well.

Yea you're probably right.  Matter of taste.

Personally in the Swtor video I can barely tell whats going on though.  A lot of Swtor vids are like that.  Its just random skills and lots of explosions and pretty lights.  Some electricity, an explosion, some blaster fire, more explosions, fire, explosions, and oh yea......explosions.

So if you like to watch things blow up, play Swtor.  Because they will be.  A lot.  Its like a pyromanics delight.

In the GW2 videos I can follow it easily.  I see absolutely everything thats going on and I can actually understand what Im seeing even though Ive never played it.  Im not dumb, and I can see the characters doing some things in the Swtor video.  Like making things blow up.  A lot.

     http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U3B88pNnYwI&feature=player_detailpage#t=253s

Really you can tell what is going on there? Because I can't and almost all GW2 videos are like it. There are so much particle effects it fells like I am watching DBZ.

    In Bioware we trust!

    SWToR IS WoW with lightsabers

now, that doesnt necessarily have to mean something bad. But its hilarious watching the fanbois foaming at the mouth about such an obvious and clear issue. Some people find difficult calling a spade a spade.

It has it's own visual style and other than the robes looks very little like WoW. Combat has been described many times over by those who have played as akin to that found in Warhammer online. Sure, the videos might look a but dull but so do vids of WAR, yet i foud it's combat there a lot more enjoyable than most.
