DC Universe Online: Five Reasons to Look Forward to Update 5

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

The DC Universe Online Facebook page has been updated with a new screenshot and the news that Update 5 is coming soon. In addition, the team highlighted five reasons why players should look forward to Update 5.

Here are 5 reasons why you should be excited:

  • The Hive Alert is now available in “Hard” flavor (and comes with a side of amazing loot)

  • Smacking your friends around in a duel is just as fun as it sounds

  • Battling other players in the Batcave doesn’t always mean having to dress like someone else

  • Superman? Tough. Superman’s dad? Really tough.

  • Zod!

when free to play in october mounth ?

  • LeetheLeethe Member UncommonPosts: 893

I just might have another go once it's free. I still think this game (engine) would have made an EPIC martial arts fantasy MMO.

    There is NO miracle patch.

95% of what you see in beta won't change by launch.

    Hope is not a stategy.

I was fairly excited about DCUO around this time last year.. However, another MMO, "RIFT" held my interest which is why I didn't get the game in January.. Then, after quitting RIFT, I resubbed to EQ2 because I was still in one of those fantasy D&Dish MMOG moods..  I've had my fill with EQ2 and am ready to move on..

With the recent DC Comic Reboot that's got me in a kid on christmas giddy mood, I'm really eager to jump into DCUO..

I guess I've chosen the perfect time to do so since the game will be free to play..

I'm downloading the game as we speak and can't wait to play!!

    Late October F2P

  • godzilr1godzilr1 Member UncommonPosts: 550

i was thinking the F2P might be fun, but then i think back to my time in beta and how limited the powers were and move on.

  • mmodannommodanno Member Posts: 163

Im beginning to think this site has stock in DCOU.  The game crashed, burned and is only around for the poor life time subbers, and yet it seems every other day MMORPG has yet another puff peice praising this game.

Nah. I had more fun in DC than I did in WoW...lol. DC got old a lot quicker, sure, but it was still more fun in many ways...and I only played the beta for a few weeks to a month. It's probably even better now.

i just wish they would fix the button mashing. It is awkward and clearly aimed at console players.

    I love that idea too

I found the power selection to be quite underwhelming.

You've got to open your mind to the prospects my friend. The powers are actually more fun that you are lead to believe initially, especially superspeed.

    This is not a game.

The button mashing IS the game. They can't really fix that, you have to get used to it.

    This is not a game.

If they still had a PvP server I would come back.  but a pve server is lame in my opinion.

if I want to fight a villain I should be able to.  not only be able to if with their concent.

I am entitled to my opinions, misspellings, and grammatical errors.

What no PVP server anymore? That was the most fun I had with the game, and i'm not even big on pvp..

But I do seem to remember a way to flag yourself for open world pvp on the pve server, so there is atleast that option.

There is one pvp and one pve server for PC.

Blade and Soul is the game you are looking for, made by UnReal Engine 3 as well.

How much WoW could a WoWhater hate, if a WoWhater could hate WoW?

They haven't set a date...but one of the CS agents told someone that their 45 day free pass would take them past th F2P launch date.  The last day you could activate the 45 days was september 1st(I think).  So 12th sounds close.  I think it really depends on how much this patch breaks the PS3.

Going Free 2 Play isn't gonna save this game. At least not the PC version.

Many people who quit the game didn't do so, because of the monthly fee.

They did it because of the following reasons:

    1) lack of content

    2) lack of immersion (everyone is hiding inside instances...as all meaningful content is instanced)

    3) underwhelming powersets

    4) underwhelming character customization

    5) horrible UI / social interface

    6) gameplay (button smashing)

Going Free 2 Play isn't gonna magically fix the above. People that quit, because of the reasons mentioned above still have no reason to come back after it's gone Free 2 Play!

Especially since City of Heroes has now gone Free 2 Play as well, I see a lot more people flocking to that game (which already happened).

That game is just superior in every way!  It might not have the fancy graphics DCUO has, but if your PC can handle to max every setting in City of Heroes..... the game actually doesn't look that bad at all!

Unless they are stealthing in the Halloween content that they have eluded to, these updates are getting smaller. 3 of the 5 reasons are the same thing: a new raid. An updated alert rather than a new one is almost lazy (I realize we just got 3 new ones with FftL). Dueling could be fun, I'll admit that. The patch notes are 90% bug fixes, which is good and needs to be done, but they better get some content out or F2P won't save this game.

I want a mmorpg where people have gone through misery, have gone through school stuff and actually have had sex even. -sagil

I personally know at least 5 people who will be playing in F2P and wouldn't play in P2P.  None of them are big MMO players or comic book fans. Some, including me, got to play a little bit in Beta and were highly impressed. Once this goes F2P, it will be the first time I have interacted with Sony Entertainment since the Geohot case, where I found out about their 35 other hypocritcal lawsuits brought against innocent people.

Nobody cares about who quit. That's not how MMOs work. They care about who they can bring in and this game was designed for F2P.

I have honestly never played a game in my life and said "This should really be F2P instead" and honestly meant it. In the case of DCUO, I couldn't figure out WHY it was even trying to use the model for P2P when the game seemed to be completely built from the ground up to be a F2P game.

Does the game have lack of content? Sure

Lack of powers? Lack of this or that? You betcha.

Good thing with F2P is that I can play, quit for 6mo, come back and play some more and I'm not out $90 for a game I didn't play or have to go through the hassel of cancelling an account.

Hell if the game has a system that doesn't force you into spending money every time you turn around, I'll probably end up putting more than a monthly sub into it anyway. Over the past year, I've spent $150 on LoL. If they had forced me to spend money in pretty much any way, I wouldn't have spent a dime. But there, it's 100% Voluntary and you gain nothing from it other than some cosmetic changes.

Plus, when they announced it on Facebook my comment was something along the lines of "the only reason I added this page was to get this one single update. Thanks!" And I got 10 likes for that. Which is pretty good I think, because it was somewhere in the middle and was lost pretty quickly in thousands of other replies.

Changes like this aren't to bring back old players, they are to bring in fresh ones. The old players are gone and you're probably not going to get them back in a cost effective way, so screw them. Nobody cares about you, there are 100,000 other people to take your place.

I played both RIFT and DCUO -- I didnt think either game was worth the subscription

RIFT bored me and DCUO was fun but had content/game issues

I'll never go back to RIFT but I will be checking out the f2p version of DCUO :)
